DT DaQuan Jones to Buffalo, $3.58M cap this year
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Thanks. I missed that. I thought playing out his first entire contract he was older than Phillips. DT takes a while to develop. At 24 still a lot of football left. Hopefully he can play well for a few years. Fills a big need once they move on from Star this year or next. No need to justify it. Beane drafts for need all the time and that is perfectly fine. -
Harrison Phillips to Vikings, 3 year 19.5 million
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree He was a healthy scratch mid-season and if Star doesn't miss time because of COVID and his toe, Phillips may not have played the rest of the season. Way too much money for Minnesota to pay. -
DT DaQuan Jones to Buffalo, $3.58M cap this year

So far on paper, Jones and Settle are better than Butler and Phillips. They are older which might be an issue. But so far the interior DL is better today than it was at the season's end. -
2022 Free Agency - Around the NFL Thread

Knox is going to cost a fortune. -
100% agree. He got the QB. But he was set on drafting a QB so if Allen goes to Browns or Jets, Beane ends up with one of the busts. So the equation is really Luck + Drafting Allen > everything else. The problem is the everything else part of that equation gets bigger and bigger each year. Already two wasted opportunities at a SB. Im not as worried about the cap situation as others. Im more worried about the lack of all in mentality to win last year. Hopefully that changes this off-season. So far so good. Outside of overpaying for a gunner, most of the other moves have been good and its early. I posted in another thread I'm not judging Beane's off-season until we see it in totality.

This just isn't true. Poyer and Hyde are the two of the best players on defense and they were signed before Beane or Allen were on the team. Diggs was acquired via trade. Dawkins was already here and extended. Beane is no different than any other GM. He has wasted tons of cap space and dollars on bad players and he has had some really nice free agent signings. He has made some great trades and he has made some bad ones. He has drafted Allen and some good players but he has some busts too. No better and no worse than any other GM. If Jets take Allen, he likely drafts Rosen or Darnold and he would be out of a job by now.

Tremaine Edmunds contract comparison
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. He is not a bust he just isn't worth the long term investment. That said some team will make the mistake and sign him to a large dollar contract -
They just extended Morse. A OT/OG makes more sense than a C/G. Last year was the time to add a C/G and move on from Morse this year. Now the calculus is opposite as Dawkins will be a candidate for a cap casualty soon and Brown is still a work in progress. Cutting Williams and extending Morse shifted the balance of need to OT.

Hmmm. Hopefully cheaper than Williams. Probably an upgrade in run blocking and at best a wash and maybe a bit worse in pass blocking. Doesn't count against the comp pick total which is nice. I think they may yet still sign another OG then draft an OT that can play OG in a pinch. Don't see Doyle as a long term starter and they will need to start planning for Dawkins replacement soon.

Neither is Diggs but he is still a great WR. Not saying Landry is in that class but for all his shortcomings he produces. 6 seasons with more than 80 catches with Tannyhill and Mayfield throwing him the ball. He is 29 and coming off an injury shortened season. 1 yr deal, maybe 2 at the most is what I would offer. Similar money that Sanders got.

Ryan Bates will be tendered by Bills
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well done -
Hope it is big dollars and he plays. Might end up a 3rd or 4th round comp pick

Wouldn't mind him as a cheap #2 option. Has some arm talent. If maturity is his issue then maybe McGenius's process could help him.

Bills release OL Daryl Williams
Ethan in Cleveland replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't like this move. First of all Brown wasn't that great at RT last year and there is no guarantee he doesn't regress. Even if they sign a good OG in FA they are really gambling at OT. Doyle could barely hold his own as an extra TE. Almost necessitates taking another OT in the draft a year after taking two. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If the plan is to protect Allen, so far Beane has cut two average guys and freed up some cap space. Lets see how he uses it. -
Cousins agrees to 1 year extension with Minny
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Leverage, fear, and timimg. Dak is not top 5 but he is probably the best of the not truly elite QBs. Yes he is overpaid but he is still much better than Cousins, Tannyhill, and Carr. -
Breaking: Tom Brady will play this year with Tampa

There goes Gronk -
Knox will command top 5 money after next year

No dome and a stadium in the suburbs is just dumb and massive waste of tax dollar money. Sad for Buffalo. The downtown investment could have made generational changes for the city.
