The Myth of the Bills over-focusing on defense in the Draft and FA

Buffalo News will now be printed in Cleveland
Nextmanup replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall
My father worked for many years as an editor at TBN, and many of his close friends/colleagues were like uncles to me growing up. So it's hard for me to see the industry turn to dust. But that is inevitable at this point. Technology has changed and printed news is the next typewriter selected for extinction. It's going to get to the point where only the biggest/best papers will survive long term: LA Times, Chicago Tribune, NYT, WSJ, Wash. Post, maybe a handful of others...and they'll flourish. The rest will be gone. Papers have been in decline for a very long time. There used to be a bunch of them in every big city. Hell, it's been 41 years already since WNY lost the Courier Express. -
IT's not NY taxes FFS. Most of these guys maintain multiple residences and it's not that hard to make a place like FL your domicile meaning no state income tax. Come on man. It's the area, the weather, (for some guys; some don't care at all) and I wonder if there isn't a growing sentiment within the team that our coaching staff ain't gonna get it done.

This may have been an issue for a week or 2, but I refuse to believe it was some sort of big problem for half the damned season. Not with Josh running off to play in a golf tournament right after the season ended. If his injury had been serious, he would have had surgery and been out long term. He didn't and wasn't, so I am reluctant to use his elbow as an excuse.

Not in the playoffs! Including against a team using a 3rd string QB. Who cares what his regular season stats look like? You don't win a SB by winning the regular season. Gotta perform at your best in the playoffs against the best teams and best coaches. That's the standard that counts.

For a few years now, WGR-550 has heavily cheated to the Bills and almost entirely ignored the Sabres. I get it in the height of the season with the Bills being so good. But man, there is NOTHING to talk about with them right now. Save the draft crap for later. Why not go all Sabres all the time for a little while? They are worth discussing and enjoying for the first time in 12 years! Having said that, just this morning, the morning show dedicated the entire first hour to the Sabres and the wild win last night. If we can pull off another tonight in Ft. Lauderdale, things are going to really get fun!

Purists will always hate the idea of playing anything other than 5 on 5. The reality is that hockey is never more wildly exciting than when it's 4 on 4, or even better, 3 on 3. There's a reason for that! I don't think the change is needed though. There IS room on the ice, and the 2 teams last night showed that all night long. The game was played off the walls and had end to end action all night long, with frequent defensive lapses and odd man rushes. As I have said here before, we are playing an '80s Smythe division style of game, and the entire league is now moving in that direction. WHY? Coaching. Coaches have decide to shift to an offense-first style of play, and (for the most) ignore this neutral zone trap type crap. If teams play offensively, the game is a ton of fun and you don't need to change anything. I have said for years that someone should come up with a simple rule change that would force the teams to play in that manner. There has to be a way to do it. Sort of like removing the red line for 2-line passing purposes. Immediately alters the game. There has to be something equally easy and effective to keep things free wheeling.

That's because he's the boss. He's going to continue to get his way. Beane works for him. That has always been my belief and I think it's how they do things. As weird as that sounds, it's not totally unknown in NFL circles. Would never happen in the NHL for example.

You're thinking this because it's absolutely possible. For a variety of reasons, we are due for a regression next year, almost certainly. The question is how much. I would still gamble on making the playoffs, but it's likely not going to be our year next year...though it could be! And that's why we watch the games. Anyone who laughs at you or tells you otherwise is just an idiot.

I agree with everything you are saying here, but I don't trust them to follow this advice. This is probably the #1 thing I will be interested in following this off-season. Are these guys really going to pay Oliver and Edmunds? If so, forget it. The lay of the land suggests we will almost certainly regress a bit next year. We need to regroup and try to make a solid shot at it in 2024. The OP isn't suggesting trading Diggs because he's not good enough. Presumably the trade would only be made if it is believed that it makes us better. If it makes us better, we're better. But I don't like the idea of trading Diggs either.

Have a look at our schedule from here on out. It's probably over already. We only play bad teams a handful of times and have one of the hardest schedules in the league. There's still hope, and I'll be watching all their games as always, but I've already kind of lost my enthusiasm for getting it done. I don't think we'll do a thing at the deadline, and I'm OK with that. The changes will come in the offseason. Next year the expectation will and should be to be in the playoffs.

Every time I see this thread title, for a second I think: "I didn't know he was in jail." 😂

Greatest Individual Season in Buffalo History
Nextmanup replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would throw out for consideration Pat LaFontaine's season in 92/93. 53 goals, 95 assists, 148 points. Single highest individual point scoring season in Sabres history. #11 didn't come close to that sort of number in all his years with the team. -
I expect us to lose our third in a row tomorrow, probably in bad fashion again. So I don't blame you for not going. Hopefully we turn it around on Friday in Ft. Lauderdale.

Nonsense speculation from a talking head begging for attention
Nextmanup replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have no idea if there's any smoke or fire! My instinct says "no." I do know that there is an ARMY of media guys who make a living discussing the NFL all day, every day. They need things to talk about; that's a fact. Look at KC this last off-season. They lose the guy I consider to be the most dangerous WR in the league, and they actually got BETTER offensively, statistically speaking. If the team improves, I agree, pack Diggs' bags. But I think it's more likely we regress if we lose him. -
As depth help, if we could get him cheap, sure. His blocking alone could be an advantage with play design, though I don't think our OC operates on that sort of level.

This topic was brought up about a week ago on the Schopp and Bulldog show with their weekly guest Ross Tucker. Ross said he has heard through his league connections and unnamed sources that Bieniemy "does not interview well" but he said he's surprised he hasn't been promoted to HC as well. Schopp brought it up.

Elizabeth Hurley ridiculed for showing her jugs

England is funny, as by and large, the women there are NOT attractive. And yet there are some specific examples, a lot of whom seem to work in the film industry, who are absolutely gorgeous. It only confirms my belief that gorgeous women can be found all over the globe, and they come in a wide array of flavors, kind of like good ice cream. -
Johnny you deadbeat! I paid off my law school loan debt fair and square years ago! On a serious note, good for you!

At what sports event did you have your worst experience?

Remember that game well, watching on TV. NYC is, on one hand, the greatest city in the world. On the other, it's just a giant sewer pit. -
Paxton Lynch becomes the first QB in history...

No doubt laughing all the way to the bank. $9 million in career earnings from the NFL days alone. Not sure about the other leagues. -
"Three years ago, receiver Stefon Diggs tweeted his way out of Minnesota. After three years in Buffalo, capped by a playoff loss featuring frustrations and gesticulations that could be interpreted as a desire for yet another fresh start, speculation has emerged again that Diggs could again be on the move..." https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/21/a-stefon-diggs-trade-would-come-with-a-major-cap-charge-for-the-bills/

For some reason, people here think that disliking the Josh pick was a stupid call at the time, because he has turned into what he is now. It doesn't work that way. I HATED the pick and we are all really, really lucky that Josh has turned into a one-in-a-million success story. Maybe they always saw it as a HUGE risk, but with a HUGE upside, and thought "what the hell." If that's true, I like the aggressive risk taking.
