How many of the thousands of NFL players go from undrafted to CFL to practice squad to underutilized by team to NFL star or even NFL contributor? Not many. Duke has more chance being out of the league next year than being a somebody the Bills regret not giving more of a chance.
-
Bills better put a claim in. We could use him and lets keep him away from BAL, NE or KC.
-
Come on. Many on this thread are saying if Duke is in the game we win and he catches the ball thrown to Brown etc. One guy said he just throws his arms in the air and its a TD. Catches everything his way. How he will to NE and stick it to us. None of that is reality. He had a decent game and otherwise has not been good enough. Yes, this team could use a big WR. Does not mean it has to be Duke as there are plenty that are simply better than him.
-
Yes people have said he is a #1 in essence by saying he is the guy you throw the ball to on the last play of the game. He has played in 3 games. Not sure what the definition of dependable is? I would think it at least is someone you suit up every week. And in the games he had one decent game and in the other tow despite receiving over 50% of the snaps in each caught 1 ball. Calling him dependable makes it sound like he came out and had at least average games, not 1 catch. Those are substantiated facts. Say hi to Duke for me...
-
How many games has he played in the NFL? That is a reach to call him dependable and shown success in the NFL. He has barely played. At this point he is barely NFL talent yet on these board he is a dependable, proven, #1 WR that can help win games for you. Huh?

Duke Williams - He is not the guy we are throwing designed plays to with the game on the line. Why cant people get it that he is not good enough to make the game day roster he is likely not your go to guy for the ball game.

Please please please do not use Zo as an example of this. He was a 300lb DT in college. Of course he ran a 5.17 40. Anyone that loses 50+ pounds will get way faster. Most guys will learn not get much faster after entering the NFL. That usually happens as they progress through high school and college.

Are the coaches clueless or is Duke not that good? Why is everyone so confident in Duke Williams?

Joe B All-22 vs Baltimore from The Athletic
ngbills replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen goes to Beasley and it is short of the first then we have issues. I think we should have ran the 4th down play on downs 1-3 and gone to Beasley on it. Its a hard play to defend when your trying to protect from the TD. All game should have run more quick pick routes and thrown the short pass. -
They used to post all the throws videos on the Bills website. Interestingly that has stopped... Your point is valid and much of what young QB's do over and over again. If you played QB you remember the boring drills to get your feet right, to turn your body right, position your throwing angle, etc. It is discipline and habit. It is one of the things that separates a good athlete from a QB. You need that discipline to and attention to detail. Not just rely on being an athlete with a strong arm.

Do people watch other NFL games? The balls we are talking about with Josh are not even close. Its not the case that a WR is running a bad route or anything. They are egregiously bad balls. Lucky for Josh he has a lot of other positives attributes because at this point his deep ball is the worst in the league and something you dont see from a lot of NFL QB's. Sit down on Sunday and watch some other teams play. You wont see a lot of the deep misses the same way you see from Josh. Wont also see the athleticism or arm strength from a lot. That is the trade at this point.

I think in the old days rookie TE's dont produce and took a few years. I think this is changing as the position has become a more highly skilled one and more integral part of offenses. The Bills are missing the boat if they do not think the position has value especially with Allen as QB. Look how many of the top TE's in rec yards were drafted the last few years. 1 Travis Kelce KC TE 75 989 13.2 76.1 47 4 12 3 51 68.0 1 2 Darren Waller OAK TE 72 880 12.2 67.7 48 3 10 1 41 56.9 1 3 Zach Ertz PHI TE 79 827 10.5 63.6 30 5 11 0 44 55.7 1 4 George Kittle SF TE 60 754 12.6 68.5 61T 4 12 2 36 60.0 0 5 Mark Andrews BAL TE 54 707 13.1 54.4 51 7 13 1 37 68.5 2 6 Austin Hooper ATL TE 58 640 11.0 64.0 35 6 6 0 34 58.6 0 7 Greg Olsen CAR TE 48 552 11.5 46.0 41 2 5 1 33 68.8 0 8 Hunter Henry LAC TE 43 536 12.5 59.6 30T 4 7 0 30 69.8 0 9 Jared Cook NO TE 34 523 15.4 47.5 40 6 11 1 25 73.5 0 10 Noah Fant DEN TE 35 492 14.1 37.8 75T 3 9 2 21 60.0 1 11 Evan Engram NYG TE 44 467 10.6 58.4 75T 3 4 1 23 52.3 0 12 Jason Witten DAL TE 53 455 8.6 35.0 33 3 2 0 24 45.3 1 13 Tyler Higbee LA TE 40 435 10.9 36.2 33 2 8 0 20 50.0 0 14 Gerald Everett LA TE 37 408 11.0 37.1 33 2 6 0 22 59.5 0 15 Mike Gesicki MIA TE 37 407 11.0 31.3 34 2 5 0 17 45.9 1 16 Jack Doyle IND TE 38 404 10.6 31.1 23 4 4 0 26 68.4 1 17 Dallas Goedert PHI TE 40 396 9.9 33.0 28T 4 5 0 22 55.0 2 18 Jimmy Graham GB TE 32 382 11.9 29.4 48 3 6 1 19 59.4 0 19 Eric Ebron IND TE 31 375 12.1 34.1 48T 3 4 1 20 64.5 0 20 T.J. I don’t think you give up on Knox. Kraft is a different story given his cost. Still think you you need to add either an upgrade or complement to Knox. Most teams have at least two solid TE’s. Look at Bal and NE with Gronk and whoever for years. Been a strong position in the college ranks as of late. Talk to scouts, high school and college coaches. Kids want to play TE now and it is turning into your best athlete.

What a disgusting Offensive effort
ngbills replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Off mic he was then heard saying "With adequate QB play they are beating a lot of teams; hopefully that QB they have doesn't figure things out or we are in trouble" -
Looking around the league there are a ton of productive TE's. What do the Bills do here? I like Knox but the drops are alarming. Kroft seems to be a flop and contract we will be getting out of in the offseason. Looking at the past drafts you have a high correlation of 40 time and NFL success. This includes Engram, Fant, Howard, Kittle as the 5 fastest in the past 5 drafts. Slightly lower you have guys like Hockenson, Smith, Andrews, Samuels, Goedert, Gesecki, Njoku, Everett, Hooper, Henry, Higby. Point is seems easy to hit on a fast TE being successful than a fast or tall WR. Tons of good TE's have come out and still dont see how Kittle was a 5th rounder...one of the best blockers in the draft and a 4.5 40 time. Upcoming draft: Albert Okwuegbunam Missouri Jared Pinkney Vanderbilt Hunter Bryant Washington Mitchell Wilcox South Florida NFL combine fastest TE's here

Those are easy passes that JA has to hit. Just as easy if not easier than the one Jackson hits that you stated was a much easier pass. Jackson actually has Hughes on top off him about to hit him. Allen has open WR's and a clean pocket on both and is throwing right over the top.

Not many are saying Josh sucks. They are saying he had a bad game. He needs to play better in these games going forward. There are many things he could and should have done better. When in a tough situation like yesterday you cannot miss on the chances you have bc you wont get too many. Josh had at least three that he just missed on. Compare that Jackson and he did not have those misses. Bills D played Jackson better than Balt D played Allen. Allen had more chances and missed.

Josh Allen - week FOURTEEN report card
ngbills replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When there are concerns there is generally much more to talk about. If Allen goes 20-20 and Bills win it is kind of pointless to be in a discussion of - Hey Allen played great what do you think? I agree, that pass to Know was amazing. My favorite was the one to Brown. Some real good takes there... He plays bad it is -how can we fix this? Can we beat a team in the playoffs with this offense? Do we run more to set up the pass? Do we keep in more blockers. Much more discussion to be had. Unless we intend this to be a who is the biggest cheerleader contest? -
Bills played Jackson great. Unfortunately he did just enough to get the win. Saw the open WR on the long play and delivered the ball. On his little trick play that is the difference between a TD and FG on that drive. So we shut him down but just not enough. I am curious if the people here saying Jackson sucked are the same that make excuses for our offense every week. You know the we are 9-3 or now 9-4 that is all that matters. Allen plays in the clutch when is needed so who cares what else he does. Yards mean nothing. Blah Blah Blah.

One game is never something to be completely dejected over. And what we saw in this game was not unusual. This was the bad Josh sneaking out again. He has some bad habits as young QB's do that he cannot seem to shake. The open receivers he missed were huge. He hits one of those early in the game and it changes things a lot. Balt may have to rethink playing cover 0which they essentially did all game. To me that is the biggest concern still with him and he has to figure that out. We saw Jackson hit the open guy and JA miss the open guy. That was basically the difference in the game. He also needs to get better at throwing the ball away. Most of his sacks he did have a chance to throw the ball away. Cant take those 10 yards losses. Wind was actually not bad so not an excuse. No moral victories. Just because he only played a bit worse than everyone else should not be a positive. He played much worse than Garopollo, who was playing on the road. Muchg worse than Brady who was also on the road. And similar numbers to guys like FInley and Rudolph. Lets not be proud of the that. Higher bar. Took the one one ones when he got them. They played one on one almost every play...
