Why do people look at obtaining a 25-26 year old proven player as a one year thing? If the Bills can sign any elite player in his prime that is for the long term. We have the money to do both. Supplement this roster with more elite talent, keep our own and draft for the future. It is possible to do it all with the current state of our roster.

All these - we dont have the cap space, what about player xyz, build via the draft talkers must just love mediocrity. Lets do our best to just keep our own and maintain a decent team. We can have some excitement bouncing around from 6-10 to 10-6. Good times. This is the NFL. Teams can get out of deals so easily and manipulate the cap and rosters. You have to go all in when you think you have a window to win. If the Bills are not at that point yet then they are in trouble. The next 3-4 years they have a shot to be good. You worry about that now and adjust as needed when you need to.

We agree then. I have said this and many respond with how we cant afford to that because of Milano, Poyer, Dawkins, etc. That is my annoyance. We have plenty for those guys and some big free agents this year. -

I was reacting to not just the article but posters discussions of the topic on this thread and others. And if they added 9 last year then should have the ability to do much more this year. $90M is one of the highest cap numbers available of any team this year or for any year ever. Someone people seem to think with $90M you cannot do much because of excuse xy or z. All teams have flexibility in the NFL by the nature of how contracts are structured. The Bills have so much flexibility and $ available they are not limited in who they can sign. The only limit would be if they want to pay or the player wants to play. Not a cap issue. This is what I am talking about. We are in better shape than just about ever team out there. We do not only have $55M. That is money available so why would that not be included? People get confused with spending money just to spend it vs spending money to improve the team. Spending on certain free agents are worth more than saving to resign guys like Milano, Poyer, etc. I agree you look long term and what will help the team win now and in the future. -

So tired of the early damage control and expectations of not being able to sign any big free agents. We have $90M in cap space and really none of our own free agents that are crucial to sign. Even taking into account money for some of our own we easily have $50M+ that could be spent on 2-3 big name free agents. There is no way to spin and tired of hearing how our $90M is really not $90M now. Last year we heard how great a job this team did putting us in position to have all this cap space and no its not really cap space. Come on now. -
How many times have the Pegula owned Sabres made the playoffs? Prior to their ownership the Sabres had made the playoffs 29 out of 40 years. Only missed 11 times in 40 years. This year would be 9 straight for the Pegulas...that is almost equal to the prior 40 years combined. How can they be doing a better job than any owner of any team, any sport.

Bills jumping back into the first with Wirfs and Thomas both on the board still.

How could anyone expect Lamar Jackson to win the MVP in just his second year. Wait... How could you expect Mahomes to win an MVP in his second year. Wait... What if Murray, Jones, Lock or Mayfield or Darnold win it next year. Still the what do you expect from Allen. You dont need Allen to be MVP or Drew Brees. But you do need him to be better. Nothing wrong with that and there is a middle ground between where he is today and MVP level which is reasonable to expect.
-
Problem with that is that it does not really matter how much he improved. Its how high he will get. People are right to have concerns about his accuracy. Yes its getting better in some regards but still not good enough. There are many people out there that dont think accuracy continues to improve. Josh has worked hard on it for multiple years now and where it lands who knows.

Greg Olsen visiting Bills, Redskins, Seahawks
ngbills replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So many just agree and defend whatever decisions are made. Its the blind fandom. Like if your a fan of this team how dare you question or not like anything they do. Go root for someone else mindset. We see it all the time. Im on here debating free agent signings and was just told - this FO is not stupid and wont waste money on player xyz. Go root for the Redskins if you want the team that wastes money. Then if the Bills sign the guy that same poster will be talking about how great a move it is. -
Any QB not just Allen can make throws out of a 7 step drop. Yes, Allen has a stronger arm that a lot of guys. But people on this board think its some miraculous thing that no one else can do. All NFL QB's can make the throws. The drop is all about the timing of the play and if your OL can protect the QB that long as well as your QB being comfortable in the pocket and making reads. That is not the Bills or Josh Allen at this time.

Not saying I agree but... Gore more yards than Olsen...156 carries for 722 yards and 4.6 ypc in 2018. -

What is this guys market value? Looks like it may be in the $5M per range. I'm for it only if is a mentor for Knox and we still are look at Hooper or Henry. Hooper, Knox, Olsen, Sweeney/Croom/Smith. -

We all know ESPN is not always right. But it does provide one gauge of expectations. The 2020 Power Rankings just came out. The Bills start at #11. Looking at the schedule and power ranking comparisons to last year: 2020 Opponents Avg Ranking: 16 2019 Opponents Avg Ranking: 18 On paper 2020 appeared to be a slightly tougher schedule 2020 Games vs Lower Ranked Teams: 10 2019 Games vs Lower Ranked Teams: 2 On paper 2019 appeared to be a tougher schedule 2020 Games vs bottom 25% of league (ranked 25-32): 4 2019 Games vs bottom 25% of league (ranked 25-32): 4 Wash 2020 Games vs bottom 50% of league (ranked 17-32): 8 2019 Games vs bottom 50% of league (ranked 17-32): 9 2019 looks slightly easier

Where do we lack depth? QB - Is it worth upgrading from Barkley? RB - Have money in Yeldon. Could make argument we upgrade here with another depth player. FB - Nothing needed WR - Depth? I would argue only a top WR is needed. Depth would do very little. Brown and Beasley signed. TE - See WR. Knox, Kroft, Sweeney, Croom, Smith. No depth needed. Could upgrade the #1 TE though. OL - Morse, Ford, Dawkins, Nsekhe, Feliciano, Long, Bates, Boettger. Spain come back? Agina, is it depth we need or upgraded starter. DT - Star, Oliver, H Phil, V Taylor. Could use a rookie rather than depth. DE - Murphy, Hughes, Johnson, Love - Does Sahq come back. Depth needed or starter? LB - Milano, Edmunds, Thomsson, Joseph, Dodsen - Could use depth. DB - Hyde, Poyer, White, Johnson, Neal, Johnson, Lewis The only positions I see depth needed is possibly RB, another LB or two, another DB or two. This team is deep at most positions. It lacks top talent at positions rather than depth. -

When have we had $90M in cap space and be a time on the rise? -

I agree. Cut them if you know they are not in your plans - sometimes if it impacts money (bonus, etc) or if you do it to give the player more time to find a new team. When people say cut I do not think many (if any) are saying just cut with no plan. Its really upgrading is the point. -

To upgrade. There is $ savings that can be spent elsewhere and limited roster spots. -
I feel the same. The guy will be 43 to start next season and showed a big decline this year. I get the "he had no weapons" argument but still he is not what he once was. Think Manning in his final years with Denver. A few notes on his season: Fewest TD passes since 2006 Most Attempts since 2015 Lowest completion % since 2013 Lowest passing yards per game since 2010 Lowest QBR ever; Only 2nd time qb rating below 90 since 2008 Lowest yard per attempt since 2002
