More in-depth look at Bills cap space
ColoradoBills replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL I know. That is the site rolling over all the unspent money into 2021. Another way to look at it is IF Beane signed players to 80 million worth of contracts this year and rolled over 0 $s into 2020 and those contracts were on the books for 2021 that 186 would be minus 160. -
More in-depth look at Bills cap space

I'm not saying that Beane cannot spend money on a big named free agent or even two of them. What I am saying that people on this board see a number and think the money can be used in ways that are unsustainable. First off the Bills have 81 million in cap space not 90 million. My main point is that GMs need to look forward when it comes to contracts. The "sustainable" number this year is 200 million. Writing contracts to that number (yes I know it goes up BUT so does all the minimum contract numbers) is what long term planning is all about. IF a team like the Bills have extra rolled over $s they can use a portion to write contracts today but spending it all creates a long term risk. -
I commented in a few threads after I heard Beane talk about the "buddies" in his year end interviews/pressers. I was elated to hear it! I still think that Beane and McDermott are "joined at the hip". It's just getting clearer that Beane is more the level headed pragmatist and McDermott is the more personal and emotional one. I think it could be a great blend that could work out into something wonderful long term.

More in-depth look at Bills cap space

This happens every off season. People count cap space and think all of it can be used for new long term contracts and it really can't be looked at that way. Salary Cap is 199 million this year. Bills have 145 million in contracts. That leaves 55 in true cap space. The "extra" cap is a one time use of the money. This extra cap (which is an accumulation of rollover) will mostly be used by Beane flex through the big contracts that are coming up. Beane is doing a heck of a job with the money and is certainly looking long term. It's one of the reasons I think he is the right man for the job! -
I believe you are correct with your assumption. They can make it work in practice but on game day it fails. Speculations as to why could be many things but my belief is Josh gets "amped up" knowing it could be a big play and something happens to cause these huge overthrows. Maybe it's a physical thing that causes him to simply overthrow the receiver or his anticipation of the "big play" causes the clock in his head to get accelerated. I do believe it's mainly on Josh and he knows it, which if true puts more pressure on himself. If any of it has to do with not wanting a turnover (interception) that should not come into play for him. A 40-50 yard pass down field picked off is as good as a punt (especially on 3rd down) if the WR knows to get a touch on the DB stopping any return. Either way he has to get a little more air under the ball.

Jordan (The Bulldozer) Howard is a FA this year.

My god I hope that happens. It would change everything on how opposing D's would have to handle the Bills offense.

I'm all for throwing a 6th at a punter. Bojo needs to have tough competition this camp/preseason. Those 6th rounders used on other picks will have a tough time making the team anyways. Side note: I don't like having an active RB slot used up for a special team guy that can't be used as a RB. No more Sinorise Perry's. I want 3 useful RBs on game day.

Good post. I haven't been a part of this thread but I will "piggyback" on your post to give my two cents. Josh Allen AND the Bills offense need to improve. Everyone knows that. It's a team sport and every aspect of the offense needs to improve to get more points scored. Allen needs a better deep ball. Allen can improve on ball placement. Allen HAS to learn to keep the ball secured. OL/TE/RBs have to improve in pass protection. Offense needs a lot more practice on their screen plays. Pass "drops" (I got eyes and there are too many of them) need to get better. Receivers need better separation. Offensive playcalling/schemes needs improvement. etc. etc. etc. Not every one of these HAS to be improved but most of these bullet points need improvement. I'm certain the Bills staff know this. The question is will they be able to do it? I expect the majority (60% or a little more) of this years "treasure" of $s and picks go to the offense. If it doesn't I will be sad. Josh Allen looked better this year to me but still has a lot to get done this off season to continue his development. I know he will put in the effort along with the rest of the O. The extremists on both sides will probably not care about this post. I for one am looking forward to September.

Target WR Breshad Perriman FA Tampa Bay

I'm not saying that Beane should sign Perriman but his situation does merit consideration. OBD has plenty of time to look at these type of players. -
Off-season: Expected and Surprise Cuts

True, but during the year up to the start of the season they are under the "Top 51" rule. -

In recent years the elite punters have been typically drafted in the 5th. Wisnowsky went in the 4th last year. -

IF Beane wants to pursue one of them he has about 5 days to get a deal in place and then he could cut Kroft before the guarantees set in. -

I see Long going to camp. IF it looks like his need is diminished due to other players I can see his contract easily traded for a pick. To me it's a win win to keep him till then. -

Yep but he has a big frame. He is still a pup and hopefully can add 10 lbs more of muscle and keep his speed up.
