  1. Oldtime, I was just posting about Richie myself. I know that the best thing is for an individual to seek help but that doesn't always happen. I've had a personal dealing with this type of situation and I still have a hard time with it. I have guilt and grief that I couldn't help her more. I often wonder about what the world looked like through her eyes and it's tough to put all the blame on her. I got no clear answer to these type of things and probably never will.
  2. Good post Doc and I agree about the combination of things. It's a witches brew. Sometimes I feel people want to look for the one "magic bullet" reason that wraps everything in their minds. My experience in life is that's seldom true. The human brain is a tricky thing. Aaron Hernandez was not a victim and did numerous heinous crimes that ended up by him taking his own life. I believe that many factors could of changed his life and he and those around him didn't change it. I couldn't help but think about Richie Incognito in comparison. Richie on his med's and surrounded by a positive environment is completely different than the Richie without those 2 things. The Richie example makes me amazed about how complicated the brain is and what science in the future can do to attempt to prevent these type of tragedies.
  3. Neither do I. Beane doesn't seem to be the type of GM that goes for the huge contracts in FA like that. I know he paid for Mitch Morse (highest paid Center) but that was half of what Yannick wants and Josh needed a good center desperately. Replying to another reply you had about Lee Smith and Tyler Kroft. I agree with your comment about Kroft possibly being let go and Smith staying. If Kroft was let go and Beane looked for another vet TE that could replace Smith's "leadership" role then that would open up other options concerning Smith's future. My point was none of us know what Beane and McDermott feel about Lee Smith's overall leadership and playing worth. I do think a big FA TE signing is possible.
  4. I think Beane will continue to do what he has already done concerning cap spending. He will keep a reserve of 20-25 million this coming year just like last year. Funny how interpretations go concerning what Beane said. I took it as he won't be spending a lot "in total" in FA this year like last year. Last year he spent a lot of money bringing in a lot of new players and like he said I don't see that happening again. I don't think it takes a "big" type player signing off the table. It was shocking none of these professional sports writers didn't ask a follow up to the term "deep end". FWIW. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few month.
  5. I take McDermott's quote literally. Literally he said TOO MANY leaders were let out of the building. That doesn't mean (to me at least) that all "room leader" are going to be safe and stay. Gore was already mentioned. He won't be on the roster. Lee Smith was brought in this year to be a leader in the TE room. We don't know what the final grade on him is, do we? I don't think Smith is a 100% lock on making the final 53 next season. I see him probably going to camp but who's to say whether or not Beane and McDermott bring in someone to take his place. We all know he has had his issues this year so I see no reason why this could not happen. Leadership is a definite need BUT leadership is always needing changes/rotation. Also, I like to bring up something Brandon Beane said in his end of season presser (or it might have been the WGR interview later in the day), but Beane said (and I'm paraphrasing) that vets, especially ones friendly with the coaching staff are not immune to being moved IF their play is not up to acceptable standards. He commented that "just because your good friends and go to dinner with the coaches, that doesn't guarantee you a spot". I thought it was very interesting he said that and it hasn't been commented on by the board. I think Beane's comment balances the opinion that it's all "only about the process guys" that some fans believe to be true.
  6. Yep, it's all about what Poyer and his agent think his open market worth is. Beane will make a good offer for probably a 3 year extension this spring. The rest will be up to Jordan.
  7. We agree on that Shaw. This is the first GM/HC duo that I spend most of my time looking at WHY they are doing what they do versus how many "dumb" things that have happened with many of the previous regimes. One thing that makes me feel somewhat confident in them is that some of the questionable moves and decisions they have made they have admitted their mistakes. I count those as positive learning experiences. Let's hope the needle keeps pointing toward the north and Daboll can put a decent performing offense together next season.
  8. I don't know either. I do believe it's their thought process though. Yes to the pass blocking. Everything needs to improve some and that includes JA learning to move properly in the pocket and reading the pressure better.
  9. Plenty of evidence that Daboll is running a complex offense. My question would be is it too complex? I suspect that they feel Josh Allen can learn to play the NFL game that way. If he can and they are "fast tracking" him to do just that it may well be the proper gamble in the long run. If my speculation is true then it does involve a lot of risk. As a spectator I can see why this causes a lot of "conflicting" points of view from fans. I guess for me personally I have bought into Beane and McDermott's system enough to trust they will make the right decisions. I'm just an amateur at this stuff but it seems the complexity of the system is due to what happens inside a particular play and NOT having too many plays.
  10. Yes. With the exception of the CLE Mangini stint he was cut after the head coach got fired. I'm not sure how much of the O's problems are on Daboll and how much is on other reasons. I guess Beane and McDermott feel he gets another year and I can see their reasoning. Hoping it all works out. I agree. The only thing we don't know is if Beane and McDermott agreed and/or told Daboll to do that for Allen's development.
  11. Agree with both your points. Only exception is if they feel one or two of these guys don't fit the system there could be an early cut or trade. One thing about trades, after the trading team takes a dead cap hit it does bring a marginal players salary into $s that make sense to the traded-to team.
  12. I took a break from the board these past couple of weeks. This turned into a pretty good thread with some interesting points. Bottom line IMO seems to go like this. Beane and McDermott are going with Daboll in the 2020 season. They BOTH know that the O lacked in many areas but have taken on some of the blame. Beane will make every effort to get better talent (which is definitely needed) for the Offense. McDermott will get even more involved in the offensive side of the ball. Anyone thinking he is "ignorant" of what a good offense looks like is foolish IMO. Josh Allen's development will still be huge in the coming season. My speculation on Daboll is that this coming season will be a "make of break" year for him as the Bills OC. Like many others have stated, I believe Daboll's weakest skill is in game play calling adjustments. If he can become better at that this next year he will succeed. If he doesn't he probably won't be here in 2021. I'm looking forward to see what moves are made this spring.
  13. That is how I took it too. Not a huge FA in # of signings. I think a big dollar signing could happen if it was the right fit. The other thing not talked about much is the comment (I'll paraphrase) about "friends" of Beane/McDermott not affecting football decisions. Who could that possibly be? DiMarco was one that came to mind and I'm almost scared to say another could be Star. Would like to know if anyone has another name that could fit this "comment". I'm not a Star "hater" but an argument could be made about the value of keeping Phillips (if his $s are reasonable) over Star. It's talked about his cap hit but everyone should remember that a player like Star could be designated a "post June 1" cut early in the year. That would split some of the dead cap over 2 years.
  14. Yep that's what I think. Also, until they find out if the FA signing could take over the "vet presence" in the TE room they may want to keep Smith for a while.
  15. I see Kroft being cut once FA starts but they may keep Lee Smith and let him go to camp. He doesn't cost any more to cut later in the summer. Just my gut feeling.
  16. All players get an allowance during camp that is not part of the cap dollars. Some of the players get a small guaranteed signing bonus.
  17. Spotrac has an error with Proehl from an old futures contract. They will catch it soon. If anyone has a "Premium Spotrac Account" they can notify them about the error. I'm thinking of getting one for this off season. Edit: Error is actually from his initial rookie deal. I'm warming to the Hooper idea. Atlanta is in cap trouble and he could be stolen away. Going forward these things usually go thru the following steps. 1. More futures contracts. 2. Start signing our own FAs. 3. Cut any "unwanted" players. 4. Acquiring other teams FAs. 5. Trades. 6. Draft. 7. UDFA signings. Contract extensions can be done anytime during these other steps. Lots to "discuss" coming up.
  18. These are futures contracts. It's pretty automatic and doesn't cost them anything. As the off season goes on it's all about building to the 90 player limit. I'm sure a number of these guys won't even make it to camp.
  19. I did too! Great not having bills ain't it.
  20. and have TE Austin Hooper line up next to him would be great. Of course Kroft and Ty are gone. Draft a WR in the 1st and a between the tackle RB in the 3rd and the bulk of rest can go to the D. We can dream right!
  21. ....and that's how fast an NFL football game can change. edit: ......or should I say how close changes can happen LOL.
  22. Like I said in another thread today, I probably make some "excuses" for Josh at times but one thing I do believe is that he did start his NFL career "behind the curve" so to speak. It's hard for some fans to accept the fact that he is a "project" QB and being one it takes a year or two more to get to the position of enough growth to show what he can (or cannot for that matter) do. I got no problem with Beane and McDermott giving him the whole 4 years to show it.
  23. Watson definitely outperformed Allen the past 2 seasons. Any rationale football fan could agree with that. You could just say that but you choose to frame it with a WWE smack down description of "The kid sucks". Bravo Barry!
