Build from inside out. What's in the trenches is the critical element. No matter how good your offensive weapons may be, if they can't be protected your passing game will suffer immensely and your backs will continually run into stone walls (there are only so many Jim Browns around). On defense you'll get destroyed time and again unless you can regularly stop the run and pressure the quarterback.

? Greatest Teams #84 1964 Buffalo Bills
Formerly Allan in MD replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That team was something else. It was exceptionally well balanced had starpower galore: Cookie, Golden Wheels, etc. etc. It was likely not as good as the initial SB team but in its own way and era was a true champion. -
Wouldn't bet on that.

Bills/Pats game time set
Formerly Allan in MD replied to Bills fan since 87's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great, national TV. When's the last time we showed anything in games everyone's watching? The law of averages is pretty meaningless for football and hockey teams from Buffalo. -
Buccaneers waived CB Vernon Hargreaves

When the seasons more than half over, GMs pretty much sit back. Quality players out there have been picked over cleanly by than and those being cut at that point are invariably problematic and released for a good reason. -
100% problem with the Deep Ball this year.
Formerly Allan in MD replied to Allen2Moulds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he's protecting the football on passes, why isn't he doing it under pressure? Is that also a coaching problem or is it simply endemic? If the latter, nothing will obviously change. It will also likely get worse since he becomes a bigger target than he already is. -
This team is still a year away
Formerly Allan in MD replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The knock on Allen is his maddening inconsistency. He came out of college with a reputation as an erratic passer. That hasn't changed much, despite the fact he's improved his footwork the last few games. Many of the passes his receivers catch require contortions. And in other areas he appears to have regressed, despite the fact he has a better offensive line this season. For instance, last year he threw some nice, catchable long balls. This year, nada. Then there are the fumbles. Deadly! I keep giving him the benefit of a doubt, but it's getting harder. I know the response to this by many will be "but look at the record and the stats." Paper doesn't win games and get you far in the postseason. -
The Extra Point - Week 10: This One Hurts
Formerly Allan in MD replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The offense has an identity. It's milquetoast, i.e. it's predictable, totally inconsistent (whatever works is seemingly forgotten, such as Singletary's performance last week), excessively conservative, has apparently not heard much about pitchouts, play action, screens, and passes to backs, and is error and penalty prone. And where is Duke? Aside from those and other deficiencies, Smith's actions, such as destroying his helmet, lead to additional costs for the franchise. -
Browns ran that play twice. It's about execution, something that frequently eludes the Bills.

Singletary finishes with EIGHT rushing attempts
Formerly Allan in MD replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All good points. Rhythm is the last thing our offense has. It's like a car badly in need of a tuneup Regarding the deep pass, we can go deep except we don't have receivers capable of catching balls consistently ten or more yards over their heads or otherwise nowhere near them. -

It would be one thing if our offense was a consistent, scare provoking passing attack. But it's more like a car that severely needs a tune up. Yes, Singletary needs to be used more, along with screen passes, play action, passes to backs, etc. etc. etc. -
Why wasn't it a fumble? It looked like one to me. What did the announcers say (sound in the bar was off)?

Foster over williams
Formerly Allan in MD replied to ILBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't understand it, although there was a brief Foster sighting today. But there's a lot I don't understand about this team and its management. -
Bills at Browns Post Game Post Mortem

Star receives too much criticism. In fact, I even saw him move today - offside. -
Bills at Browns Post Game Post Mortem

The Bills don't appear to learn from losses, let alone some wins. If they did, they'd have some consistency and flow by now and stop making the same errors over and over again. Perhaps they'd also stop overusing the likes of Wallace and Smith. -
Next 2 games are must wins...

Why are the playoffs such a big deal for this team? They'll get embarrassed. -
[Name Only Title] James Lofton
Formerly Allan in MD replied to MarkMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why not? We're pretty much wasting him. He'd be great on screen passes but why go with what would work.
