11/21 Colts at Bills, Postgame Postmortem Thread

I don't disagree. I've already reached that conclusion. I also think Daboll is holding the offense back with his "one size fits all" game planning. -

I don't doubt he's trying but things really go downhill when this team...especially the defense...experiences adversity. -

I think McD was talking about the way they played. Too many mental errors leading to mistakes, penalties etc. The players were up for the game. They did not play well and mental errors contributed to their poor play. -

Actually McD admitted they were not focused and mentally in the game. He also said it started with him. -
Don't get me wrong. I'm not excusing their poor play or the poor coaching. We lost to a very poor Jags team which we should have beaten, even with backups. Against the Colts we needed to be at 100% to stand a chance at matching up against them.

It was really hard hearing the questions, but from what I did hear it didn't sound like they were lobbing softballs. I get the impression McD was really po'd...not just because of how poorly they played but also about the circumstances that led up to who was available to play. -

I don't know why I expected we'd see that this week after playing that way last week and winning big. It didn't matter that it was against the Jets. That kind of offense keeps opposing defenses from setling in. -

I agree with you. Daboll schemes against the supposed weaknesses of the opposing defense without taking into consideration the weaknesses and short comings of his own offense. If an opposing defense knows what's coming, good coaches will adjust their scheme to throw the opposition off balance. -
It all depends on the timing of those player losses as well. Against the Colts...a good, hot team, we needed to be as close to 100% as possible. Instead we're down 2 starters on the o line, our starting MLB and 2 on the D line (don't forget we're missing Zimmer as well). That said, a better game plan on both sides of the ball was needed to overcome those losses.

We're also out Zimmer on D, which totally slipped my mind. -
What you say about the o line is true. Plus, I forgot that we're also missing Zimmer. He is huge on this d line.

I thought he learned from last week's results...where being under center helped Josh and the offense. At this juncture he's just being stubborn. -

I was really surprised at today's game plan, keeping Josh in shot gun. -

I agree with Atlanta and New York. I also believe we can beat Tampa (yes....they are not a physical team and their Defense is not great this year), I believe we can beat the Panthers, and I expect us to split with the Patriots. This all presupposes we get players back from injury and covid reserve. -

I'm not being Pollyanna. I'm being realistic. The Bills are flawed, clearly. They do not match well against physical teams due to the lack of physicality on both lines. When one or two key pieces are missing, the team falls apart completely. They are not good enough as currently built to win a Super Bowl but at this juncture, I'm not seeing anyone that's running away with either conference. I expect the Bills will make the playoffs, not because they are so good, but the rest of the conference teams are still beatable. They will likely finish with a lower seeding and then we'll see. -

No one is saying you can't call out the team's deficiencies. But be measured and rational about it. The takes by some fans on this board are just over the top. I'll bet we agree on this one: Both of our lines...offensively and defensively are overmatched physically, and when that is apparent in games, our coaching staff doesn't appear to have answers within their game plans to minimize those deficiencies. -

I couldn't agree with you more. But fixing issues that need to be fixed versus blowing everything up is quite a different response to today's poor effort. -

The one thing I hate about the Bills losing, is it brings out all the termites with their negative takes that otherswise remain hidden in the woodwork when the Bills play well. Okay...the Bills suck today. They're playing a more desparate team with the best back in the league and without key players. Okay. That does not negate what this team has accomplished since Beane and McD have arrived. Believe me, this beat down is hurting them worse than it hurts us. Are they overrated? Perhaps. Today, it certainly looks so. We're not the best team in the AFC and we aren't the worst. We no longer lead the division and the hated Patriots do. There's more football to be played. There are no runaway teams this year in either conference. I'm going to enjoy the sport. Hope the Bills get healthy and gather themselves for the rest of the season and let the chips fall where they may. At this juncture, my real reason for pulling for the Bills to win, is to weed out all the faux fans who frequent the boards when the Bills play like crap. -
I only know that we protected DTs Ankou and Bryant and DB Josh Thomas. I haven't seen anything on elevations.

I had forgotten that Moss got injured in this game. He was playing well up to that point. -

I agree. I liked Brown in general, but he played small in big games. -

I had forgotten that Roberts cost us a lot in field position with his decisions on kick offs. Plus Brown was horrible at receiver...letting balls go through his hands and not getting much separation otherwise.
