Bledose led and Mullarkey coached 2004 team won 6 straight after being 3-6 only to lose at home to Steelers backups in a must win situation. They had a good running game, Moulds, Evans at WR too! Not sure an offense with a rookie QB, a weak OL, aging RBs and a mediocre WR group can score enough to deliver more than 3-3 record coming home.

He would be a very Athletic G if used properly. kudos on the insight here. The defense will need a slippery 3 technique like Kyle next year - Ed Oliver would fit the bill. Lorax is a unicorn - can play standing up at SAM, as a pass rusing DE or inside at DT in a Cheetah Rush package. There are dudes coming out of college who are hybrids and have to believe that OBD is IDing them. I would also list DE as an issue as Murphy is a potential injury settlement and Shaq is entering option year.

Allen is not the only guy playing for Bills. If he were to start I believe the Patriots and Jags would be able to scheme against Bills effectively and Bills would be unable to score vs Pats and Jags. As for the other 4 games, I see a split with Fins, take second from Jets and a win vs Lions at home. Allen would then be 5-5 in games started and finished as a rookie. Kelly went 4-12. So 5-5 would be an OK mark in my book.

Marrone bailing on Bills. Only Kyle, Colton Schmidt and Jerry Hughes remain from that 2014 team. Hard to believe but these are some leaders in locker room. OK, you asked so here's what I think: 1. Only 2 decent QBs in remaining 6 games - Brady and Stafford. 2. Only 1 team is even a top 16 D, the JAGS are 3rd best D. 3. Only 1 team in Top 16 O, the Pats at #10. No top Running backs to face so Bills D can force a one-dimensional game. That being said, I think we play Allen in the last 6 and go 3-3 to finish 6-10.

Virgil, thanks for doing these every week - must be a little easier after a win! I concur with all you said here. And two plays yesterday brought me to the same conclusion re: Benjamin. The dropped TD was obvious. Do some hand strengthening exercises. Roll to your left when falling and tuck the ball away from defender. In the 2nd half there was a medium throw to the sidelines and the Jets DB made a good play to deflect the ball. It was in the air for 2-3 seconds and Benjamin made no effort to dive for it. Keep mailing it in KB. OD likely to keep him around for depth now but I'd cut him. OBD likely to sign more FA's than lose so no need to worry about loss of compensatory draft pick.

Tough to fathom after 1st 6 quarters of year but Bills are now #1 ranked D. Beane and McD have got "their" guys to play the various roles in the complex defensive scheme they run and it is working. Kudos to you for admitting that the move for Star worked. I hope Murphy is back after bye for his pass rush skills. In the meantime, the silver lining is that Shaq is playing great as a starter. Shaq's name got called more than any other DLineman yesterday.

I was thinking the same thing. Was listening to Murph/Tasker show at lunchtime today and they stated likely due to his failure to fully digest the complex coverage schemes they use. Extra time in last few weeks to get up to speed is what Murphy said he was told by coaches.

Let me count the ways... QB: Give Allen one more week off and bye so he has 6 weeks recovery til start vs Jags. Lets him develop some timing with new receiving crew. OLine: Bench Ducasse and Miller and play Boettger and Teller at G. Younger, stronger and more mobile than the guys playing now. Let Serles play RT and put Mills as backup Swing OT. Then when year ends we know if we need new starting OGs or not. Same at RT. WR: Bench Benjamin and start Zay in slot with Pryor and Holmes outside. Or put Pryor and Zay outside with RayRay in slot. TE: Clay to IR and play Croom and Thomas to determine if either can be TE1 next year. RB: Abandon the 21 formation with DiMarco and use Shady and Ivory in tandem instead. RPO with Josh from this formation would be problematic for most D's. Defense: More of same. Can they maybe replace Gaines at CB2 with Lewis or another PS CB?

Agree that we are in tear down / rebuild mode in 2018 / 2019 seasons. Bills rebuilt WR and DL overnight in 1985 draft. I agree OBD should draft best player available at top of board. Just a minor correction that 1984 was 2 years after Knox left, Kay Stephenson went 8-8 in 1983 after taking over then went 2-14 in 1984. Bruce Mathison was not a Bill in 1984 - he split 1985 QB duties with Vince Ferragamo. In 1984 Joe Ferguson started 11 games in his last year as a Bill and then the other Joe, Joe Dufek started 5. Bills went 2-14 to clinch top pick in draft in 1984. They did manage to beat Cowboys 14-3 at home that year. They started 1985 0-4, Stephenson was fired and Hank Bullough took over as Head Coach. He went 2-10 balance of 1985 and got canned after going 2-7 in 9 games in 1986 (with Kelly at QB). On came Marv and the rest became history.
