  1. This is a look at where the Bills are at in regards to their 2018 depth chart not including any additions FA/Draft. I will highlight the needs and grade each spot, but not say Sam Darnold for sure will be the new starting QB etc... QB: Nathan Peterman Grade: D- Draft Need: Round 1 or 2 at latest. The only reason I didn't put this as an F is Peterman is still young and raw so there is a small chance he could be a serviceable backup. Tyrod will be let go because of his cap hit which will give the Bills some more space. The Bills need to draft a QB in either round 1 or 2, a stop gap solution like a Josh McCown will be viewed by fans as an utter failure. RB/FB: McCoy, DiMarco Grade: B- Draft Need: Rounds 4-7 somewhere in there and perhaps a guy in FA also. McCoy himself is an A+, but they have nothing after him in depth and DiMarco has been average at best. Lately you can find pretty serviceable RB in the later rounds as Kareem Hunt and other recent rookies have shown. Given the Bills needs they would be wise to address this later in the draft. WR: Benjamin, Z. Jones, Andre Holmes, Brandon Riley Grade: C+ but partially incomplete Draft Need: Rounds 3-6 or FA. The WR position has been a weakness this year but you could also say its hard to judge because the QB play has been so weak. Assuming Benjamin can stay healthy and Zay keeps developing that isn't a bad starting point, but they could use a WR like Torrey Smith-esq in the draft or FA to add another dimension on offense. TE: Clay, RFA's Thomas & O'Leary Grade: B- Draft Need: Rounds 5-7 or FA This position has actually been an area of strength IMO this year for the Bills. Clay has been quite good all season, Thomas has made some good plays, and even O'leary has grown a bit into a competent player. I really don't see the Bills doing much here unless there is a guy in the draft during the late rounds they really want. Given their needs elsewhere this isn't as large. Offensive Line: Wood, Incognito, Groy, Miller, Ducasse, Glenn, Mills, Dawkins Grade: C+ Draft Need: Rounds 2-6 and FA The offensive line is like a tale of two cities. Wood & Incognito are pretty good and dependable, but Mills Glenn Ducasse & Miller are all major weak links or injured to the point their value isn't there. Even with Dion Dawkins looking like a good find for the Tackle spot the Bills desperately need another guard and tackle in the draft and free agency for depth. I don't think they far away from being a Top 10 unit again but they need to fix some areas badly and probably trade or cut Glenn if they can for cap reasons. Defensive Line: Hughes, Lawson, Davis, Washington Grade: D- Draft Need: Rounds 1-3 and FA It's crazy to think that as recently as the 2015 season the Bills had one of the most feared D lines in football but that sadly has evaporated quickly. With Marcell Dareus traded and Kyle Williams most likely retiring after this year and slowing down with age this year the Bills are incredibly weak at DT. Jerry Hughes is an enigma at DE who is talented and makes some plays but also needs good running mates to really hit his stride. After that Adolphus Washington is very average and Shaq Lawson is looking more and more like a player who won't hit his potential. Realistically the Bills need to draft a DT with one of their 1st or 2nd round picks who can start and sign a guy for example like Dontai Poe to give the DT position some real teeth again. DE they can try and add some depth in FA and maybe they could draft a guy in rnds 3-5, but Hughes and Lawson are serviceable enough for another year. Linebacker: Lorenzo Alexander, Matt Milano, Tanner Vallejo, Nordly Capi, & Deon Lacey Grade: C- Draft Need: Rounds 1-3 and FA I was going to put this as a D also but Milano has looked very promising to the point that they mayyy have one spot filled if he keeps playing the way he has and if the coaching finally just lets him start. Alexander is not a bad guy for pass rushing and I think would be serviceable as a depth guy. BUT they desperately need a LB with speed that can cover potentially even more then they need a DT. They will need to not only draft a LB in rnd 1-2 but also add a guy in FA who can be solid starter. I hated that they didn't resign Zach Brown or someone talented like him this offseason because he was a far more solid option then what they currently are running. CB: White Grade: Incomplete (White B+ though) Draft Need: Rounds 2-5 and FA Tre White already looks like a bonefied star and 10 year starter at CB so that helps tremendously building the rest of the CB group. I listed this grade as incomplete because EJ Gaines and Leonard Johnson are FA's. With both in the lineup when they are healthy I would say the CB group grades out at a solid B to B+ range. But I don't see the Bills signing Gaines after a certain dollar amount and he may get more money on the open market. Johnson is more a 4th CB spot then nickel so we will see how the Bills value him. IF the Bills let both walk they will need a new CB2 and NCB plus depth. If that is the situation they need to draft a guy and add a solid veteran in FA. Safety: Poyer, Hyde Grade: A- Draft Need: Rounds 5-7 or FA The Bills hit home runs this off season with the signing of Hyde & Poyer. I don't think anyone could have predicted how good each would end up playing and at least Hyde deserves a Pro Bowl bid if not Poyer also. They do need to draft a guy or more likely add a veteran so if an injury hits they have a capable backup something they did not have on roster this year when Poyer was out. Overall the Bills have more holes then they probably can fill in one draft and they will need to add another impact player or two in FA to help truly strengthen the roster. One issue I see arising is the Bills moving a decent amount of capital to grab the QB they want. If the Bills give up a 2nd and a 3rd to jump and grab their guy at QB, that only leaves them with a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd to fill needs at LB, DT, OL, & CB. And that is making the assumption that the guys you draft in rounds 1,2, and possibly 3 all can start. I don't think the Bills are in the worst situation either, shrewd drafting and FA can certainly help to build on the areas of strength they have. But the room for error will be quite low for this draft.
  2. He's on pace for 1100 yds rushing 400-500 yds receiving and is a major focal point of the offense. Assuming the Bills draft a new QB why would they dump an incredible asset that takes pressure off of the kid when he has shown zero signs of slowing down cap space be damned. If you are the GM wouldn't you rather your rookie QB has Benjamin, Jones, McCoy, & Clay as his weapons to start?
  3. Hard for me not to feel as though the plan is set to try and stay at 6 wins for draft reasons. I expect to hear that Peterman is starting the rest of the season because Taylor is out and not "completely" healthy.
  4. Pretty simple because of the number of years we have been irrelevant we are not a big ratings team. It isn't a surprise that when Rex came here we got a game each year because he attracts media. Additionally the NFL no longer has it mandatory that every team plays a night game due to ratings falling. I would expect more of the same 12-14 teams next year as they fight the ratings. Game quality frankly doesn't matter its market/relevance, the NFL could care less how many entertaining games we have had. AND it is well known the Bills very much prefer 1pm games at home which is why even for TNF we are on the road more then home. Because of the distance fans drive from all over they do try to accommodate for that. I know the team in general prefers having 5 of their home games in Sept-Oct because of weather and travel. Add in fan behavior being at nights game at home also and you have your answer of why it is so infrequent. Personally I hate playing at 1 pm every Sunday and wish we had a 4-5 4 pm games along with 2 night games a year but I don't run any of that. Oh yea thats a big thing too. The stadium is an absolute b*tch for night games to setup, networks hate it and that is a major factor also.
  5. The luster loses it shine when you realize how close we were to breaking the drought in a year with a weak AFC and schedule that offered that chance assuming they don't make it in. I agree progress has been made but it is also very possible that we actually have a worse record next year despite a better roster.
  6. I get you you especially on this. What really sucks is they seem to most likely be blowing a insanely easy year and chance to make the the playoffs. If either CIN or NYJ were a W people would be excited right now even after this loss. Sadly even at 9-7 we need a bunch to go our way. And that is why I didn't want to trade Watkins, he would've given the offense another weapon and with Benjamin out they still don't have a guy to stretch it or go up for 50/50 balls.
  7. And this is why when Whaley went on his spending spree's/Dareus contract signed people said they better win and perform otherwise it will bite them hard. Bradham, Gilislee & Woods are guys who our cap cost us losing them more than anything else. Watkins production didn't warrant the contract he wants and the potential for injury because of previous seasons made sense in trading him. I still would not have traded him but I do get the logic and the return was good. Dareus was traded because of the contract more then his play. It's not entirely fair to blame McD/Beane for the current situation when they basically were handcuffed because of the previous GM's $ decisions. I hated losing Woods & Bradham because they were consistent solid performers you need for a good team. It's easy to look and say well this guy is doing well over here we should have kept him. The Patriots have lots of guys every year that show up outta nowhere because they have a good roster that allows fringe players to be highlighted. Your mad about Ragland but I am more mad they didn't keep Zach Brown who wasnt expensive. And not starting Milano will haunt them soon. Overall its a mix bag and a lot of the current problems/decisions made stem because of the previous guy. The fastest way to reset the deck was to free up a lot of cap and use some vets on the fly to stay alive. This off season as I have posted is where the real work and impact good or bad will come from.
  8. At least in regards to Eric Lee I would say use extreme caution emotionally. Every year we play the Patriots and some unknown from us or someone else has a big game because that is what they do. They are very well coached and have a lot of good players so even fringe guys have banner days. Jerry Sullivan use to do an article every season of the RB's who have ran for over 100 yds against BUF from NE alone and the amount of no namers is amazing. It's gotten to the point with the Patriots I void myself of any reaction to their games because its like playing on a different universe.
  9. Probably because if you had any reading comprehension he said as much after the game that he was pissed wanted to hit him but didn't intended to hurt him. In Moore's case by Bertuzzi it was known before the game that they wanted to get him back and take him out. That's premeditated. And Gronks hit didn't do the same to White. If White had a broken neck and taken out on a stretcher yea I'd want criminal charges. That's not the case and context matters.
  10. Right hitting a guy late after a play with an elbow, as opposed to grabbing a guy forcing his head and neck into the ground as hard as possible and then proceeding to punch him repeatedly which ended his career and broke his neck altering his life forever seems like a bit of a difference.
  11. Correct because it was a deliberate hit that was premeditated by a previous incident the NHL bff'd badly.
  12. Funny because I have seen hits during plays while a game is occurring that are deliberate and malicious which did bring it far more severe action.
  13. BS. I play hockey and have seen guys run another during a game with a clear intent to injure. I have seen the same after the whistle is blowing or a stick swung to injure. So no I don't separate the game from when the play happens and after because in both cases people act like complete jack a**es. Bertuzzi straight up mugged Moore during the game while the happening and broke his neck. I've said repeatedly Gronks play was stupid and dangerous. I do not believe it was done with intent to injure however, I do believe he wanted to hit him because he was pissed off he even said as much after.. That doesn't matter because the outcome took our guy out and he should be suspended 3-5 games. Burfict's hit on Brown could've killed or broke his neck and his track record says as much that he is a straight thug when he plays.
  14. Makes no difference to me dirty is dirty whether during the play or after and stupidity happens regardless. If we are going to start saying people should be arrested for assault after plays the same can be applied during the game. It was an awful dirty play that occurred in the long list of ones done by players in the NFL and sports in general. If he receives a one game suspension or none then yea I'll be mad as hell. But otherwise if he gets a few games then it is what it is from there. I would expect the Bills to probably take some liberties comes the 24th though and if I was coach of the Bills I'd tell my players to do as much.
  15. Broncos vs Cam Newton season opener in 2016 especially Stewart on Newton. Or Kiko on Flacco this season was far worse to me.
  16. Just watch the Steelers Bengals WC game for starters from 2 years ago for starters. Burfict alone has a highlight real worth of hits. Kiko Alonso on Joe Flacco a few weeks ago for starters or as I said above the entire Bengals Steelers WC game was a straight joke by both teams.
  17. I have see far worse hits then what Gronk did in the last 5 years and those didn't require nor should they have a DA being involved. People commenting for the justice system to get involved are a straight embarrassment to the fan base.
  18. If you can't separate yes Gronk was frustrated for how he was being covered and that is understandable from but he shouldn't have done that please stop reading and go to bed. Virtually everyone I have read has stated as much that it was a blatant cheap shot because the dude lost his cool. Guess what it happens all the time in sports across the board. Doesn't make it anymore right but Gronk is on a long list of idiots who did something stupid and now will face what should be massive repercussions that could cost his team home field in the playoffs.
  19. Agreed it was an emotional dirty play and he even admitted as much when interviewed. He should be suspended for games if not the remainder of the season until playoffs. But this crap that it was "criminal" and "assault" is just insane. Really stupid emotional plays that are dangerous and dirty happen in sports. In response so do massive suspensions. At the same point you cannot start to regulate things with the law with athletes who are at their max emotionally. The bigger outrage should be if the NFL only suspends him a game or none at all. Examples need to be set especially with head hits. If Gronk is out the remainder of the season or at least misses the Pittsburgh game and NE loses that is a massive blow to the Pats to have to go on the road for the AFC title game.
  20. I love TBD far better then BBMB. I do agree the sudden death was unexpected but the quality of threads here for the most part is far improved and a lot of sillyness is non existent here.
  21. There is a difference between pressure and blitzing. When Brady has failed it has been against 4/5 man fronts with exotic schemes that force him to take an extra second to look at the field while the pressure beats his line up front. Otherwise against the blitz he has something like 70 TDs and zero INTs. So yea blitzing is bad.
  22. I think as Bills fans its our duty to go tailgate before the parade if it does happen to offer support in the form of broken tables and people on fire. Respectfully my $.02
  23. The article itself actually has a solid concept in the idea that teams need to develop QBs more and the expectation of just finding with ease a franchise QB with no need to development is foolish. BUT yea this part stuck out like a sore thumb. The writer completely ignores that Roman after year 1 with Tyrod which he created an offense that was made to his best qualities in year 2 tried to develop Tyrod into a pocket passer. Taylor could not and did not develop. It gets really frustrating to hear from the media that the Bills should just be grateful for Tyrod and be done with it. For the record I had zero issue with Taylor coming back even next year to let the rookie QB we have develop but that bridge is smoldering thanks to Peterman coming in when he did. I am not sure why the Bills should be forced to settle with an average QB that at times plays above average. I am a Tyrod fan but he isn't the long term either.
  24. As one of the survivors from BBMB I greatly enjoy the threads here. In general they are far better and more entertaining. Haha I loved that thread. I am leaving but I of course have to make a post stating why I am leaving.
  25. Puke such a gimmick I will where black in spite of this red BS when I attend then
