Its hard because he had a breakout year in 2016 and this year I really thought he would continue growing and instead regressed. But I have to wonder how much of that was due to such a blah basic offensive scheme and they did make the playoffs. Personally I think he is the real deal and will keep proving so but I also think this is a really big season and he needs to rebound back to his previous numbers and developmental track.

No the team would've went from all time great to really good because they have a great QB. If you honestly don't think Kelly was that good and it was his team then why is he in the HOF? You don't make it there without having the goods yourself.

Before I right my dissertation in disagreement this is still a very strong post and I like the points you made. OK with that a lot of people in disagreement post about how building a team and filling holes is the wiser move and "if we can just catch lighting in a bottle at QB". Thing is we have tried this strategy for two decades now minus JP/EJ and its given us one playoff appearance (credit to this staff) AND.... nothing else. We wasted a pretty good defensive core from 2013-15 because we didn't have a QB. Sure if you want to gamble that you really think you can assemble a defense as talented as the 85 Bears, 2000 Raves, 2002 Bucs, or 2013 Seahawks be my guest but here are the straight up odds: -Drafting a QB top 10 you have about a 50-60% chance of that player developing into a true franchise guy. AFTER the top 10 the odds start falling into the 30% range for the 1st round, 15-20% 2nd round, and then really dive after that into minuscule percentages. If you are opening 7 doors looking for a prize aren't you gonna want at least every few years the best odds possible for that prize so you stop looking. -The Bills have drafted more running backs in the 1st round since 2000 then QBs. Repeat the single most important position on the field we have addressed less then running backs. -Your a 100% correct those who use Tom Brady that he was a 6th round pick. Please list the next great 6th round pick at QB and if potentially the GOAT at QB was a 6th round pick what are the odds it happens again -Since 1970 the Bills have drafted no QBs top 10 and a total of 3 in the 1st round since the 1980s draft including Jim Kelly. The strategy of draft later for QB we have perfected trading up would actually be the inverse to this. -Today's NFL is all about maximizing the QB/passing attack. For better or worse (IMO at times worse) the NFL has changed to being so QB driven that even really good teams typically fall to the top QBs. Blake Bortles actually played pretty decent for the Jags who had a great team in the post-season...and lost because of the QB they faced. -A good QB can hide holes on your offense from O-Line, to RB, WR because he elevates the team. Guys like Rodgers and Brady are so good that average defenses for both of them look better because of the field position their given. -Just because you fail in the 1st round does not mean you will again at QB. The Ravens drafted Kyle Boller in 2003 who flamed out by the end of 2005. That didn't shy them away from taking Joe Flacco a few years later and that worked out pretty well for them with a SB and 6 playoff appearances. -From my understanding the Bills were in dire straits until Kelly arrived. Yes the team had some talent but heading into that season things were really really bleak and he had a savior type role for the franchise in general. Without him they were toast. -Even if you do get some holes filled instead without drafting a QB are you really gonna believe the Bills both short and long term can compete against NE Brady NYJ drafting a QB and MIA who will be drafting one soon. We will basically have passed on a long list of talent for two straight years. That really sucks to just keep staying with the best of the rest scraps. So thats where I am at this point. Like I said I actually really liked your points and if the Bills got Roquan Smith/James Washington for example I would be happy with their additions. My disappointment would more range from again just pushing the QB position off and even trading Tyrod who I would rather have had here then instead.

Sadly I agree with this. Before Murph had has show moved to 12pm and it became completely in house I thought he was far more objective with his opinions. Now it feels like he has a message he is trying to send for the team over his show or a certain topic he is trying to drive home the teams point. I will never forget the day he ridiculed a little kid after the 2016 postseason presser disaster. Was a 100% state radio that day and very annoying. I will say for as much as I loved Donald Jones, Tasker is a far better analysis person for the role.

They basically gambled they could retool, win , AND draft a franchise QB all at once. So far they have won, they've retooled and had decent returns on guy like Poyer Hyde White so far; the key is the franchise QB. Even though I am not an Allen fan, even if he is the one of four they get I think they pulled it off. I wouldn't blame them much for O-Line issues either they couldn't predict Wood or Incognito but I do agree it is another dam whole we have to attack now.

Fundamentally disagree. This group identified this as a QB class that has great upside and was worth building draft capital with the ability to grab one of them. Had the regime that drafted EJ had been as aggressive during the 2011 or 2012 draft years they may have had a better shot at a top QB. Instead they literally drafted a QB who was a 2nd-3rd caliber QB. I watch enough college football and remember the 2013 draft as a whole not being anything special to pull the trigger on and the talent wasn't close to this draft. This year in general has the potential to be one of the better QB draft classes in a long time. The only similar mistake would've been keeping a flawed QB which we had seen his ceiling so we were forced to pull the trigger 2 years too late. Your not mistaken that they could guess wrong and this may implode but you have to take your shots with the best odds you can and they have set themselves for a decent shot.

Without commenting too much on the QB's themselves I always thought the Bills were stuck between a rock and a hard place. I think they wanted to commit to RJ completely as soon as possible to see what they had. BUT he goes down with injury, Flutie comes in and starts winning and not just winning but crazy exciting games that energize the area plus mix in his story and how do you take him out if your the Bills. Additionally from my understanding (I was 10 during this) Flutie really helped re-energize the region for them team and save the team in terms of renovations to the stadium. There was no way he wasn't starting in 1999. The rest from there seemed poetically cruel in an unjust way with Flutie leading the team to 10-5 only to see Johnson have a career day and have the team winning in the playoffs when he leaves the field. Truthfully if they really wanted to see what they had in Johnson they probably should've traded or cut Flutie after 98 but no way that would've ever happened.

Lately the night games haven't been too bad. BUT the fact its NE, mid season so the hate will be amped up given both teams records, and its right by Halloween does not inspire confidence. That said I can't wait to go it'll be a blast!

Ive sat 100 level as high as row 34 and low as 1. 34 to row 10 has great sight lines after that you can still see in front just not as far but your also closer to players.

3. Two Home One Away. MNF home against JAX TNF home against MIA SNF away at IND/NE/GB Rational: I know its weird to think of Buffalo getting two home games but I think they are due a MNF game and they have an easy story like JAX or interesting big market team like CHI to host. The Bills have only hosted two TNF games since the NFL started making teams have to play on TNF and it is a competitive disadvantage to routinely be the road team something even the Bills have voiced concern over. I think they get the TNF game back at home for once. As for SNF every playoff team from 2016 played in at least one in 2017. IND has an easy story line with Frank Reich whereas the other two are big market draws.

Not surprised with Elway. Recent cuts to veteran players I don't thing have reflected well.

Dissapointed the last two QBs Buffalo went for in the 1st round (JP, EJ) were both physically gifted as heck like Allen but failed greatly with accuracy and precision passing. I really want Rosen/Mayfield because they excelled with that not a guy who only completed 56% of passes. That said my negative vibes would probably thaw out by training camp.

Carson Palmer wasn't a project but he did sit a full season which did wonders IMO for him. Good question and topic.

If Shady has two more 1000 yd years and is here for 3 years mixed with another playoff berth then Shady goes on the WOF. People I think understate how freakin good and important Shady was last year to killing the drought and had we beat JAX his performance while injured would've been legendary. Otherwise neither should be on.

But if you compare Fred to the rest of the players on the WOF his career fails in comparison even with the community aspect. I think he is romanticized because he represented the fans during the drought which is great, but the WOF is for playing excellence IMO not being a great guy.

Agreed. A lot of people want Fred Jackson but truthfully he isn't even in the Top 5 RB's the team has had at this point. I get he is loved community wise but doesn't his name up their discredit the accomplishments of guys like Thurman, Cookie, and yes OJ (football field accomplishments)? If Shady stays another 3 years and stays around his current pace shouldn't he be up there before Fred? In general I know the drought provided very few high points and we like to romanticize the 90s teams to an unhealthy point because of it, but I would like to see a little higher standard for excellence. The only two players I really think from the last two decades that even deserve a chance to be up would by Kyle Williams and Eric Wood because they played at a pro bowl caliber level and both are in the talks to be top 3-4 ever for their position team wise. Additionally on good teams like the 1990s Bills those guys would've received far more media attention for their excellence. BUT if you said neither I wouldn't have an issue with the standard being higher either.
