  1. Wrong. Owners have to get involved to some extent. Do you honestly think after last seasons protests which the Pegula's directly had to get involved with their players, that they didn't speak with Allen also regarding the tweets posted and whether they wanted a player like him in the organization depending on what he had to say. I would be slightly concerned if my owner had absolutely no idea about any player moves given how personality and character especially in today's world can have drastic consequences if your not paying attention. Plus in a position like QB that individual is expected to be the face of your franchise for hopefully 10-15 years and someone you are going to pay millions upon millions of dollars. If my team was making that type of commitment I'd want to at least be involved a little in the process. I would still let my GM make the call but I wouldn't be asleep at the wheel. ALL OWNERS are involved. The difference is to what degree. Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder especially are the anti-thesis of what you want. They are too involved and as a result cause to many problems. At the other end of the spectrum the Rooney's from Pittsburgh almost forced Big Ben out after his sexual misconduct and motorcycle crash because they didn't want that associated with their organization. Finding a healthy balance of where to be is key and teams like Pittsburgh/NYG typically are models of this. The Pegulas with both teams took some time to find the healthy middle ground of not being overly involved. Rex Ryan's hire was their failure, but to the same token McBeane is looking like their success and in general they now seem at a safe distance. The single most important thing is for the owner, gm, and coach all to be on the same page and vision. Issues arise very quickly like we saw with Whaley with Marrone/Ryan when things aren't in unison and the owner sides with one of the other.
  2. Truthfully this is where fans make a mountain out of a mole hill. I get Russ seems to be close to universally despised by Bills fans and many for some dumb reason think he has had a role in football affairs despite not for years now. But what exactly is news worthy that the president of the business side of the house leaving requires any great announcement. Its pretty clear based off the Bills announcement his forced resignation was based off some real bad stuff and no organization is going to go around and keep bringing it up in various forums. It's a major news story in the eyes of those who dislike him or because a person in his position left a major organization but I fail to understand who a show geared on the football team itself which focuses on everything from team, schedule, picks, etc.. would recognize something that has zilch to do with the football side. Also depending on if any law suits come from this PSE may have been advised to limit any conversation for legal matters.
  3. You heard it here first 23-0. Sweep the pre season... regular season... playoffs... superbowl champs
  4. That picture should more or less summarize the Marrone era. Truthfully I have always been skeptical Toronto was all Bills driven. Given the NFL's push to international markets, the fact we had a really old owner without a replacement plan, and the want for a better stadium in Buffalo I have always thought the NFL had at least a piece in that decision. I think they may have said "if you plan on regionalizing the team and trying to stay long term we need to see you in Toronto". Not at all doubting Brandon drove that himself and in general Brandon for mostly better did help regionalize the team across the State and Canada. But yea Toronto straight up sucked.
  5. Dobutful. SJF has invested big time for the Bills to have the facilities at their standards and the impact regionally in Rochester to create Bills fans is unbelievable. I grew up in Buffalo and was stunned when I moved here how much people really are hardcore for the Bills to the point it feels like your in Buffalo. McD will probably keep doing what he did last year where he does a portion of practice/night practice in Buffalo which allows everyone to kind of win. Funny fact Rochester until the late 80/early 90s was a Browns town because that was the way the broadcast rights were and during that time the Browns were a preeminent NFL franchise. It was only when the Bills got good things changed and the the TV rights switched. The older generation 50 and above actually still have a lot of Browns faithful. Many are also Bills fans but still a ton are mainly Cleveland.
  6. I kinda figured it was a joke but you stirred up a minor hornets nest. Rochester has become a major Bills town thanks to the regionalization efforts and when players/alumni come to events the place is swamped. People here are just as passionate as in Buffalo.
  7. Truthfully I bet the over because in my head I think the defense has a enough talent to be top10ish in the league so they are in every game they play. I don't think they will be better then 7 or 8 wins but in my head that's where I have them. The Jets and Dolphins both will be pretty bad especially with NY breaking in a rookie so if the Bills even go 2-2 vs them I think I can find 5 more wins. In my heart I am more with @Kirby Jackson and think even if the defense is improved the offense is a major work in progress and the QB position will seal the fate pretty quickly for the team. Even if Allen starts and does well he will still take his lumps (I have no faith in the other two), their pass catches are shaky at best, and the O-line needs a year to solidify. Plus the schedule is a bear and starting out 0-4 is a real possibility. I don't want this to happen but I have this awful feeling we are 2-5 or 1-6 for the nightgame against NE and the season is straight up toast.
  8. @Ice bowl 67my wife and I are considering the trek to Green Bay for the game on the 30th. Any advice? We are looking at 100 level tickets I know their expensive but this is once in a lifetime type deal stuff so don't care. What do you recommend on Saturday to do and food wise? And yea I loved their draft even though I would've picked Rosen. At least they finally went for it with good guys on the board then wait like we did with Losman and force a pick.
  9. Nothing the current logo has remained incredibly solid and they have an excellent alternate/vintage logo for those who prefer that. They literally don't need to alter the uniforms ever again other then to add a blue alternate that is throwback.
  10. Haha my wife and I were at that training camp and all the sudden he's down and the next thing you hear is EJ is starting the whole practice. I actually remember EJ did pretty well that day and a few TD throws he had on 7 v 7 the team went nuts rushing him to celebrate. He was always a good dude I always wished he succeeded but it just wasn't made to be. That said his first season I actually bought it a bit he could be the dude especially until his knee got injured against CLE. After that the coaching staff seemed nervous to move him around and he seemed hesitant himself to move. It just never was in the cards.
  11. Fantastic SOU and I agree with you on O-line. They have a lot of capable starters if anything them gel-ing together is more the thing then talent at this point. The only area I would disagree is the overall record 8-10 wins. I think both Beane and McD know it is more likely to be 6-9 win year then near 8-10. The schedule is brutal in the first half, they are breaking in a rookie QB, and even with the defense bolstering some talent it will take a few games to see them come together. Perhaps that's the pessimist in me as a Bills fan but I don't think even a 6-10 season is a failure or step back if Allen grows, the defense comes into its own, and the team is competitive. They did win 9 games last year but a few bounces here and its 6-10 also.
  12. It was reported that was their target more then Rosen. If you read a lot of mocks from reputable people they had Zona ahead of us for Allen.
  13. This is a pretty poor take. Regardless of the fact that I disagree with Allen as the choice the team needed a QB badly and Beane is 1000% right when he said as a GM your responsibility is trying to find a long term guy. He did that and created the capital throughout the season to move up to do so. Guess what if Allen works out the holes at WR and OL really won't matter funny how that happens when you have a QB. They moved up and then got a starting LB which was the second biggest need the team has. They still have a 3rd, 4th, two 5ths, 6th, and a 7th which is plenty to work with. They didn't touch their 2019 draft picks so they have a full draft there also. There is a saying quality of quantity. Sure the Bills could've kept their picks and possibly lucked into a starting LB or OL. Instead they moved for a guy they wanted who is universally acclaimed to be a starting LB out of college. Yes perhaps the LB from Iowa works out but if they like a guy I'd rather they go for it (including Allen) then settle like we have with JP, McCargo, etc... If the draft falls something like this are you really that mad because they didn't add one extra OL or DL: 1. Allen 1. Edmunds 3. WR 4. OL 5. OL 5. DL 6. CB 7. BPA The Bills still are one heavy with draft picks at this point from the normal 8. Truthfully you seem to making a mound out of a mole hill.
  14. Your not less of a fan for disagreeing with a QB that is universally riskier despite his upside than Rosen who was also on the board. A lot of very smart football minds are not bullish on his prospects and his accuracy is a real concern especially given the lack of talent he faced and how he flat lined against power 5 teams. I have seen the Bills acquire Rob Johnson JP Losman & EJ Manuel all QBs who had the bodies of gods and couldn't throw a medium accurate throw to save their life. I hate the pick and think that it is an incredibly risky move compared to Rosen. That said he will have his chance, of course I hope he succeeds, but truthfully I will be waiting of him to fail at this point because the odds are not in his favor. Additionally the kid needs time to sit and learn so we basically surrendered this season before it began given we have no true starter until Allen takes his shot at the QB spot. As a fan its really really discouraging because if they wanted Allen I would've rather kept Tyrod who could've kept the team somewhat competitive until Allen was ready. Instead the season already smells of 5-11 where they waste Shady and a defense that actually looks decent because the QB position is a work in progress. Why exactly as a fan should I spend money when that the optics you gave me? Sorry if you can't handle that a lot of people just don't like the pick and a team that for two decades has made god awful decisions left and right just made another questionable scary one. Doesn't make us less then fans just a very different real perspective.
  15. It is certainly up there I wouldn't even know how to rank them though. You get this right and you have a franchise QB to go with an aging but good-great Shady, defense that has some real talent despite holes, and front office/coach that looks like they know what their actually doing. That is how you get a decade plus run of success started.
  16. Problem is McNair is blueblood owner in the NFL circles despite is strong and divisive POV on subjects. Panthers will be sold so they will at least be able to start distancing themselves soon. And I agree T Pegs may be aloof but I don't doubt he tries for best intentions and seems like a decent enough dude.
  17. Never thought of playoff issues yea that really would be complete BS for road teams.
  18. The NFL would have to adjust their schedule some for the West coast but truthfully I am not sure how much they really care with rest. A lot of teams play after London anyway and I think they would make it a forced adjustment. The other thing is I am pretty sure if a team was added or moved they will be in an AFC South or NFC South type division to cut travel across the US.
  19. If you read Peter Kings MMQB he has hinted the NFL has seriously considered expanding or adding there. The market is insanely rich with potential and fans already and I believe he said within ten years he thinks a team will be there. The biggest issue is travel and training and they have talked that for away games they would possibly setup a quasi home base in the US on the east coast to train at so they didn't have to keep going back and forth. The other issue is money for players because of the taxes in the UK and that would put them at a bit of a disadvantage.
  20. Im fine with this.
  21. They need to go back to the drawing board or just go every year with One Team One Goal. Although at least were not "Fully Pregnant" anymore
  22. I think SOME of the criticism directed to GMs is warranted. There still are some old school GMs who like the OP mentioned are more obsessed with hand size or physical traits then things like accuracy, touch passes, timing etc.. You still have GMs who over value positions like RB when they should draft them 2nd-3rd round. But the NFL is not nearly as ingrained in the past compared to a sport like the NHL where the moves GMs make routinely make me want to scream (hockey is my main sport I actually write about it for a Sabres sport). That said the criticism to at least Gettleman to me doesn't seem fair in my eyes. It seems ownership has declared that Eli is the guy for the time being and Gettleman has to listen to that decry. Even so I think he would take Darnold if he came around and people forget that the Panthers success is a direct correlation to moves he made. He guessed correctly that not spending major money on Josh Norman would be correct. I think people need to give him time. Dorsey just took over so I am not sure why people are throwing shade when his moves have been especially limited. Gil Brandt I at times disagree with but overall his track record is superb and he is a legend so I give him the benefit of the doubt. He says far less stupid things then Polian who the world seems to have pass in general.
  23. I don't think trading a 2nd and a 3rd to move up somewhere around 5-7 in the 1st is breaking the bank. You still end up with two 1sts, a 2nd, and 3rd plus the rest of of your draft. This team really needs to take a shot at a QB and even after doing that you can at least hopefully plug two holes. Every team has holes every season just some years they are smaller then others you can't let your entire draft strategy change because of two retirements. In my belief they are betting with Groy, Bodine, Dawkins, Ducasse/Miller they have enough to draft lineman later on plus offseason cuts to be OK up front. It won't be the strength we've seen the last bunch of years but it won't be a tire fire. That is what I think the Bills see, your strategy isn't wrong either just different way to address needs. Thanks. I think they need to draft IF possible (assuming they have the pick) Evans or LVE at 22. I personally prefer LVE because his potential seems to just be opening, but Evans may be a better day 1 starter. Malik Jefferson from Texas is also intriguing but not to the level of those two.
  24. Honestly I can't truly judge the schedule right now until at minimum after the draft preferably the week of training camp. I want to see what QB they draft and what holes are filled or not filled. Obviously I am not saying they will beat GB its a hard game in any circumstance (unless Rodgers is out not that I wish that on him either), but how I feel about the first two games especially is so based off what ends up happening here. I will say this Bills coaching staff managed to get the team up for games against good teams like KC and ATL which are both tougher places to win and they did. MIN & GB are both tough, but I would of course take the Pack at 3-0 because I do believe it would be a trap game.
  25. Like everyone else I am ready for the draft and wish it was here yesterday. After the long process we have went through here are some modest predictions of what I think will happen: -Buffalo will trade up but they will keep their 22nd overall pick. From what I have read the 2nd and 3rd rounds have a ton of potential and teams value those picks more at this point then lower 1st round picks. -Buffalo will end up somewhere between 5-7 and draft either Rosen or Allen. The smokescreens for both QBs makes it hard for me to pick one I would say Allen slightly more. I think the Bills really want Darnold but that isn't happening. -At 22 the Bills will draft a LB like Van Esche or Rashaad Evans. The D line and secondary need some depth but have some good to strong starters, if they can get a true blueblood in the middle at LB I think the defense can be potentially Top 10 worth and I also think McBeane knows this. I also think Beane knows they really need to find a starter at LB more then any other hole after QB and his 2nd 1st offers his best chance at filling it. -I think in the 2nd round the Bills will draft a WR like Anthony Miller or James Washington. -The rest of the draft will be devoted basically to OL, DL, & LB to hopefully find some good depth off the bench
