  1. Perfect - I am in for someone that can be a part of the team going forward and will not disrupt the chemistry. I want no part of guys like AJ Green or Trent Williams that although they will help this year - they have no long term value to sustainable success. This is where the Sabres were a few years ago and GM Murray started trading assets for short term talent and destroyed both a young, up and coming core and long term depth. Be patient and let them continue to grow.
  2. I don’t think Levi is better than Tre, but the Bills very rarely switch sides - so Tre does not necessarily go up against #1 receivers more than Levi. I think the Bills give Levi more help than Tre and therefore he can make a few more plays, but both have played very well in this system.
  3. The contract was written fine, but the CBA has specific limits when it comes to getting out of guarantees above and beyond the contract. There have been a ton of articles, but it is very likely because of the timing of the cut that even though AB may have invalidated the contract - NE will still have to pay the guaranteed money because of the CBA. Oakland is probably ok because of ABs actions, but NE is going to end up paying him most of the 20 million he was guaranteed.
  4. I think he will I’ll end up getting most of his guaranteed money from NE. I don’t think he will get anything from Oakland as that was prior to the season and he went insane, but NE signed him with that knowledge already in place. i think NE will be on the hook for most of the 20 million guaranteed and I don’t think Kraft will be happy to pay
  5. No, but you don’t think that has an impact on when guys get tested? Overall the data shows little difference for most players in clearance. The difference seems mostly dictated in when the games are played. The other big difference is the NFL takes players off at a sign of a big hit to the head - getting the player out of the game. The NHL it still seems to be a major emphasis on the player and in some cases it might be shifts or even days after the hit that caused the concussion before the player is diagnosed and I think the NHL misses significantly more concussions than the NFL - so the ones they find are a tad bit worse.
  6. The 2 biggest differences is the schedule and the IR rules. It has little to do with treatment. NFL - the player is on the active roster and the team can let him sit for essentially a week before being in the next game. They cannot use IR to bring additional players in and the missing 1 NFL game is equivalent to missing over 5 NHL games - which for Buffalo Sabres - 5 games missed would mean the next game from last night would be 10/17 - a full 2 weeks after the 1st game. NHL - they have a 7 day IR available- so if they get even a minor concussion they will be placed on that and get replaced by an active player. This allows a minimum of 7 days - plus any additional days before the next game. If a Sabre got concussed last night and went on the 7 day IR - their next game would be 10/14 - 10 days after the concussion - even if he was cleared prior to the 7 days - he would still be missing the days. It is very hard to equate the two sports between the rules and the timing of the games. Looking at it both seem to clear most players in 5-7 days - for the NFL that gets them ready for the next game - In the NHL they miss more games, but a smaller percentage of the season and the individual player is not missed because of the 7 day IR.
  7. They should wait until late in the week - probably Sat because that way the Titans have to prepare as if Josh will clear. If they elevate Webb Tuesday or Wednesday- then the Titans can assume that it will be Webb and Barkley and prepare that way.
  8. HaHaHaHaHa - yeah I could tell from your post all last week you are a big fan.
  9. I don’t disagree with that. I believe that the Redskins planned to try and win this year and the Haskins was not going to do that. I think at this point they were looking at the first 4 games as a barometer and it is obvious they are not good. They need to move to Haskins at some point and I think Gruden would like to get through the NE game - the ownership would like to go faster. I don’t think Gruden survived no matter what - so to me it was stupid to draft a QB and keep the same coaching staff. They should have made the move in the off season before the draft - just to get the familiarity and stability. They will be switching everything this off season- so getting Haskins any time does very little for his future growth.
  10. His job is to win games and get the team ready for the upcoming game. It is not clear that other teams give the number 2 any significant reps - as a matter of fact - I keep hearing more from people saying Jay is the norm - especially with the new CBA. The back-up players seem to typically get about 5% of the snaps or probably 10-15 during the week. How many Reps do you think JA got prior to that first game last year. It was part of the reason many people wanted him starting. The starters get 95% of the reps to get prepared. How many reps do teams get to take during a week - you are limited to a couple of hours of practice during the week and limited days and you are spending time installing plays for the week and teaching the starters what to expect. He would be remiss to basically stop getting the team ready for a game - so that he can give a back-up QB a few more reps when he is not playing. Even then if he moved it to 50% - it is still very limited reps overall especially later in the season as they spend more time mentally preparing. Your GM drafts a QB, but does not suddenly mean the HC has a pass to not try and win. Jay is going to be gone anyway - so he has to focus on the team as it is now. Once they are eliminated they can look to get Haskins ready.
  11. The difficulty is that it is nearly impossible to show 8 individual games in a weekend. The 4 games currently played allow you to show 2 individual games Saturday and 2 individual games on Sunday. With 8 games - you are forced to double up and therefore you split viewership for at least 1 game on each day. Drop 1 team from your idea and have 7 on each side with the top seed getting a bye and you have 6 games on wild card weekend 3 on Sat and 3 on Sunday and that works. I also have no issue with adding a 17th game - especially if they do some neutral fields/large college stadium set-ups or some outside the US.
  12. Chris mentions this because it is not true - he spent his first year in the league with Old school Mike Shanahan and it was the same set-up then. Even Tasker mentioned it on OBL both on the teams he played on and the ones he watched as a broadcaster. Almost exclusively the vast majority of the reps go to the starter - they have to get him ready for the game plan. The back-ups get mostly mental reps or some scout team work because they are not given enough practice time under the CBA to develop both. This would be especially true in a place like Washington where the back-up In Haskins and the starter Keenum are 2 very different stylistic players and therefore if you are starting Haskins you probably need a totally different game plan. The limits in place by the CBA on practice and the need for coaches to win drive the issue with QB development. It was talked about significantly last year with Josh Allen. The team tried to give him as many reps in the preseason as possible because once the season starts the starter gets 90-95% of the limited reps - so it becomes a mental learning game rather than physical.
  13. I don’t think they are basing it on one game. Similar to Fisher in STL/LA - Gruden wants the rookie to have as much time as possible and the owner wants to play him to have a shot at winning. Gruden is dead man walking and now it just comes down to how long before they pull the trigger. Much like LA - this will end with the coach being fired and the QB never looking ready this season - then we will see what offensive juggernaut Snyder tries to lure into his web to get the play he is looking for.
  14. Steve Tasker was talking about this today on OBL - said basically on the teams he was on the starters got almost all of the snaps in the primary offense and the back-ups got almost no snaps and had to run the scout team and it has become more common with less practice time. The back-ups are expected to listen and pay attention in case they are needed for emergency work, but they should get very little work in the offense unless they are needed. It is a huge mental preparation time for back-up QBs.
  15. So Jay Gruden is doing what every other coach does - Back-up QBs run the scout team and starters run the offense due to limited training time. It sure seems like it was leaked by someone with no knowledge of how an NFL team prepares. When they decide it is time to start Haskins then they will do everything to try and get him ready at that time. Anything prior to that takes away from game planning for the rest of the team. That team is a mess!!!
  16. Yes it currently counts and will continue to count until the arbitration is over. If Brown wins the money stays on the books. If the Pats win they get credited for the money on the next cap. The most likely time frame will not see final resolution until sometime mid to late 2020. They could also come to an agreement and settle the case.
  17. I want anything that will begin to remove Tom Brady from the record books. Give me a 30 game season as soon as he retires and remove the stain of him from the NFL Add 5 playoff games to get him out of the post season also.
  18. Chris Brown mentioned this on OBL today and also said that you could see a week to week look ahead of Taylor and Peko with them playing one week and back on the practice squad later as they fill specific needs based on teams they are playing. That would make sense as soon as they are sure Taylor know enough to be able to handle himself in the system.
  19. Hard to know for sure. I think Taylor is more like what they want out of Star as a run stuffer. I think Peko is more like Harry - can play the 1 against the run, but has a bit more QB rush in him. I think for this week and next - I would of preferred Taylor, but I get using Peko. I trust the team on this.
  20. That makes sense - what I find interesting is the releasing of Curtis Akins - wasn’t that the LB that was with Cincinnati and basically brought in just that week and then released. Maybe he didn’t fit, but maybe we got some info from him. Hall was signed back to the PS and I think we still have an opening. Very Curious!
  21. That is fine if you ignore the fact that in that game the Bills had already tried to move within 2 minutes and a major adjustment by the Giants had caused issues with the Bills previous drive and that almost cost the Bills points to let the Giants back into the game minus an amazing defensive effort. After the failed drive and with longer to go and getting the ball after the half - McDermott made a strategic decision to allow his offense to regroup rather than risk letting the Giants back in. You saw the potential consequences at the end of the half against Cincinnati when Josh fumbled and a lucky break occurred with the ball/player being ruled out of bounds. We missed a long field goal, but that easily could have been Cincinnati ball on the Buffalo side of the field - completely altering the game and momentum. Sometimes it is ok to kneel down and take a big lead into the half - just as sometimes it is ok to punt. It may be a bigger win to not score and hold your momentum rather than risk a turn over and giving the other team life.
  22. It certainly could be both, but the point is - this was not something that just started - this started last year as Josh showed what he could do. Even with limited talent last year - he started making more choices to go for it and was more successful.
  23. The conversion also had an impact on the Bills drive. It made the Cincy lead only 3 points - so the Bills could be more aggressive on their drive once they got into FG range. If they had not gotten the 2pts and needed the TD because they were down by 4 - it makes the Bills drive much harder and even if they score - it makes the Cincy drive afterwards easier because of the score. Of course what we will never know is the impact on the rest of the game - tons of other choices may have been different.
