If, for instance, the Giants, Steelers, or Colts thought he was their franchise guy then they would've pulled the trigger and drafted him in round 1. You want a general manager to be up against the cap each season to try and put the best roster around their elite QB. It just makes in season moves more difficult.

They are paid per diem and non veteran players make $2,000 a week in training camp. The team must also provide free food and housing. Not sure how they set up the housing aspect. The pitch by the team for someone like this is we'll give you an opportunity to show what you've got on film. Could lead to a practice squad spot somewhere in the league.

They're better than Gabe. Surer hands, better route runners, and at least Palmer can create more separation. Totally understand that trepidation. They signed Palmer to a decent sized contract. They invested a top 35 pick in Coleman. They should and will be the priority.

Love preseason panic. It's mostly the same team we had last year. We out physicalled the most physical team in the NFL in the playoffs last year despite having less talent. It was BACK UPS. I obviously wish they showed more fight and I'm sure we'll see a different sense of urgency next week. Keep in mind though we lost to this team 33-6 last year. In fact, we've had more double digit losses in the preseason games the last four years than the regular season/playoffs. Relax.
