I was at a bar draft party for last year’s selection meeting and facepalmed when the Bills pick was announced. At that point, with Mayfield ( my top QB) long gone my sights were set on Rosen. It was definitely disappointing at the time.In all likelihood , I was wrong on Rosen. While still not even close to sure about Allen, I saw more out of him last season than I expected to. I absolutely hope he becomes the franchise QB the Bills need.

Agreed on the Zay Jones move. The jury is out on Edmunds, but he’d have to be a multiple pro bowl player to justify it most likely. I’m still not against a move up in round one though. In any event, I think Beane and McD have an established willingness to make these kinds of moves. As Bills fans we should probably expect more of them during their tenure here.

It’s a fair point that Watkins certainly was regarding as such heading into that draft. There’s a lot of happenstance that shaped or reinforced peoples opinions on the move after OBJ broke out. It’s not like half the board were calling for Beckham. From memory there were more wanting Evans than OBJ. If EJ was good or Watkins put up OBJ numbers, Whaley’s move would be praised or at least the criticism would be quickly forgotten. A move up could be a good move, even for a non QB like a pass rusher. The price, team status / needs and talent of said player all factor in to that move.

But does it really ? Or is this just some sports talking head drivel to drive conversation. Has Belichicks drafting been above the NFL average in the last decade or so? Having multiple middle round picks doesn’t increase the chance that any single player will be good. Are draft picks like lottery tickets ? ( they say having more tickets in the powerball doesn’t increase your odds of winning). Or are draft picks simply currency to move around the board and get the players you want ? It’s a legitimate debate, and I’m not sure even those who fall into one camp or another actually have the answer.

What is better, no guns, or more guns?
Boatdrinks replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I read that Singapore has a very low crime rate. If you use a gun while committing a crime in Singapore, the punishment is automatic death penalty. That’s very interesting. When people talk about gun laws, perhaps the punishment for use needs to be stronger. Then again , , merely possessing a gun in Singapore gets you automatic caning. -
Looks like O.J dropped his prison commissary weight. Heck he could probably suit up now !

These types of scenarios are why Beane would consider a move up. If your draft plans are targeting very specific players, you need to move around the board in the early round(s). Many disagree with spending multiple picks when a player “ will probably still be available” in the original slot. However , sitting still can backfire too. The Bills missed out on Ted Washington for their Super Bowl run in the 90’s by a single pick when the 49ers drafted him . It would have been nice to have his run stuffing capabilities instead of Wright.

The stadium has too much capacity ( and no climate control ) for the pricing structure required in today’s NFL. Whether you or I or anyone on this board thinks the team needs it or not will have zero impact on whether one is built.

Not sure if even a full renovation ( which the county passed on in favor of a cheap spruce up last time) makes much sense. The current facility is not coverable, so it would give very little pricing power in return for the still significant investment required. The entire point of a new stadium is to bring the ticket pricing structure out of the league basement. No reason to do it otherwise. That cannot be overstated.

Beane and even McD in his first draft have displayed a willingness to move up for specific players rather than letting the draft fall to them. Whether you agree with the strategy - there was likely a chance the players would be available in their original spots- or not, it fits in with Wawrow’s response. If they are comfortable with the price to move up, it seems a likely scenario.

Pretty sure he was referring to the Bledsoe era Bills vs Miami game featuring Moulds, Price, Ricky Williams et al. Was a heavier snowfall than the Jan 91 playoff game as well. -

Good point, and it really should have been 15/19. Seahawks and Falcons were epically dumb. -

Winters are much worse here than the places you cited ( okay maybe GB is equal/ worse) and snowfall total is probably not even close. Not sure why Miami would care about a potential Bills dome but OK. -

Ticket prices rising to around the middle of the pack would almost certainly happen, and why not ? I do think the bottom of the barrel pricing structure that Bills fans have enjoyed for so long has given many an unrealistic view of things. It won’t last forever. I probably wouldn’t want a dome in Miami either, fwiw. November and December ( and even January at some point ) in Buffalo, though ? Dome please. -

Agreed. It seems a lot of commentary here is either folks making grand ( yet wholly unrealistic) political statements or whining about being priced out of attending games. A potential new stadium in Buffalo isn’t going to happen all that differently from what has been done elsewhere around the league. Wouldn’t the amount of snowfall we get in the area rule out a retractable roof ? It seems a dome would be more suitable for our region but I’m not certain. -

While your post makes sweeping generalizations about the Bills target customer, there are some valid political points. IF we lived in a perfect world, right ? We all know that we don’t, and government is far from great with taxpayer dollars. However, we don’t live in a perfect world and if a new stadium is desired by the Pegulas and Co, it will almost certainly get done. Most likely a combination of funding sources will be used including some tax $. That’s how it is. It’s not just the NFL, lots of profitable businesses do this kind of thing in some shape or form. While I acknowledge the validity of your message, I don’t agree with it personally. -
By the letter of the law ? Possibly. However , PI calls have pretty much been standardized as judgement calls. If judgement is exercised on the field , there is no reason it can’t be applied in a replay situation. The entire thing has to fit in the current replay structure anyway, so it’s not like coaches will have unlimited challenges of PI calls/ non calls. It could be a good change in a lot of a situation. I’ll give the league a chance to screw it up before I’ll declare it a failure.

New Stadium Talk as of owner’s meetings

Plenty of folks from all demographics enjoy tailgating. September/ October are simply best. The weather is pretty wretched in Nov and Dec to sit outside watching a football game. That’s the problem. -
PI , as you inferred is considered a judgement call. Many times, the officials don’t call things the same way for both teams. This could help even things out. If judgement is used in live action, it will be used upon review. This move is to correct obvious misses or errors in judgement. I think your fears are unfounded. Where is it implied that it will be followed word for word only on review ? Being able to correct obvious mistakes/ phantom calls a la tredavious @ KC a couple seasons back is a good thing.
