The Patriots* winning isn’t built around where they draft CBs or OL/ DL. Their “ model” is a simple one, alright...Tom Brady. Anything else they do tends to work because of that , not the other way around. Conversely, the Bills have lost to them for 10 + years because they’ve lacked a good/ great player at that all important QB position. Sure, a D with a few HOFers and a wicked pass rush ( such as the Ravens) may have allowed them to win with just solid QB play. The current rules don’t facilitate beating NE with CB play.

Your favorite Bills conspiracy theory?

The Bills lost SuperBowls because they were partying too much. Never mind that the Raiders were legendary partiers in the 70’s and 80’s but had little trouble winning. -
2019 New Era Draft Hats Not so Special !!
Boatdrinks replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe this year’s draft hats had a theme of incorporating elements of each citys flag into the hat. So you will probably see things that have no apparent connection to the team’s official logo, such as the lightning bolts on the Bills hat. From what I understand, the designer of the City’s flag included 13 lightning bolts in the design. These represented that New York State was one of the 13 original Colonies. They also represented the “ energy and spirit of Buffalo” and that Buffalo was one of the first cities on the electrical grid. I admit, once I became aware of this I warmed up to the design of the Bills hat. Previous years have been worse, imo. -
Whether it’s mechancis or his diminutive size , I am fully expecting he’ll be a bust. He’s no Baker Mayfield, though the football talking heads on TV are trying to sell him as such. Only two or three short ,small QBs have had success over the last 3 or four decades. Murray will be on the scrap heap rather than join the outliers.

Ty Dunne: What Happened in Green Bay
Boatdrinks replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sometimes with family, you need to be the better person and take the high road. Regardless of family dynamics/ complications , some people really just are A-holes in real life. Even sports stars that many people think highly of. We often only see their “ public” persona, and that’s the point. -

Buffalo politician: Why wouldn’t you renovate New Era Field
Boatdrinks replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills are a business. Their goal as a business is to make more profit. The current stadium limits this ability. Aside from taking politically virtuous yet wholly unrealistic stances , there isn’t much point to your takes in this thread. You don’t want a new stadium. Fine. That doesn’t mean the Bills don’t want it or that one won’t get built. -

That is a strange interpretation to say the least. There is/ was nothing childish about my choice of modifier. There is no argument. Merely the fact that the Bills average ticket price is among the league’s lowest. Hence the reference. Please explain what “ facts” you are referring to that don’t support this. The modifier is not an exaggeration, but a description of the Bills ticket cost comparative to the rest of the league. Refusing to consider the business aspects of the stadium discussion while demanding the Bills to operate in some sort of business vacuum that isn’t typical of other teams in the league is nonsense. One must acknowledge that while typical funding sources of stadia around the league is far from ideal, that is the world the Bills are playing in. -

Right. You would pretty much tear everything down but the sunken portion. I don’t know if the cost would still be less, but I would venture that it might not be. -

Ha ha ha. Lime, you are a quick wit . Wonder what your sage educator taught you about childish insults? While you apparently don’t care for my choice of modifier, the fact remains the Bills ticket pricing is bottom of the league. Call that bargain basement, low rent, whatever. Not sure how you gleaned your curious assumption about my status from my post , but my point is a valid one from a business perspective. It also contributes more to the conversation (er,debate?) than your platitudes about how things ought to work if we lived in a perfect world. We all know that we don’t. -

Tickets are at welfare levels right now, and some current ticket holders are bound to be upset . Yes, the market can afford higher prices. A few slapdash renovations won’t give the Pegulas much pricing power to charge closer to average prices, though. -

Of course it’s about profit. The NFL is a business, not a game. There is no distraction or confusion involved as far as fans go, though. It is about value or perceived value. The most important things in a potential new stadium are fewer seats ( limited supply creates demand) and climate control. That’s where the value is , real or perceived. Larger concourses or better bathrooms doesn’t mean much when the goal is to get the ticket prices up to around the league average instead of the basement. There is money that is staying home rather than go to a game in miserable weather. That’s the untapped market the Bills would like to tap into. They can’t really charge too much more than they currently are for the same seat in a modestly improved facility. There is really no mystery to this. They want to sell a better, more upscale and more expensive gameday experience. -
He had the chance to do just that about 6 years ago, and opted to do a cheap spruce-up instead. In the end, the answer will always be money. A full reno of NEF will probably be very expensive, maybe even close to the cost of a new building.

I was at a bar draft party for last year’s selection meeting and facepalmed when the Bills pick was announced. At that point, with Mayfield ( my top QB) long gone my sights were set on Rosen. It was definitely disappointing at the time.In all likelihood , I was wrong on Rosen. While still not even close to sure about Allen, I saw more out of him last season than I expected to. I absolutely hope he becomes the franchise QB the Bills need.

Agreed on the Zay Jones move. The jury is out on Edmunds, but he’d have to be a multiple pro bowl player to justify it most likely. I’m still not against a move up in round one though. In any event, I think Beane and McD have an established willingness to make these kinds of moves. As Bills fans we should probably expect more of them during their tenure here.

It’s a fair point that Watkins certainly was regarding as such heading into that draft. There’s a lot of happenstance that shaped or reinforced peoples opinions on the move after OBJ broke out. It’s not like half the board were calling for Beckham. From memory there were more wanting Evans than OBJ. If EJ was good or Watkins put up OBJ numbers, Whaley’s move would be praised or at least the criticism would be quickly forgotten. A move up could be a good move, even for a non QB like a pass rusher. The price, team status / needs and talent of said player all factor in to that move.

But does it really ? Or is this just some sports talking head drivel to drive conversation. Has Belichicks drafting been above the NFL average in the last decade or so? Having multiple middle round picks doesn’t increase the chance that any single player will be good. Are draft picks like lottery tickets ? ( they say having more tickets in the powerball doesn’t increase your odds of winning). Or are draft picks simply currency to move around the board and get the players you want ? It’s a legitimate debate, and I’m not sure even those who fall into one camp or another actually have the answer.

What is better, no guns, or more guns?
Boatdrinks replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I read that Singapore has a very low crime rate. If you use a gun while committing a crime in Singapore, the punishment is automatic death penalty. That’s very interesting. When people talk about gun laws, perhaps the punishment for use needs to be stronger. Then again , , merely possessing a gun in Singapore gets you automatic caning. -
Looks like O.J dropped his prison commissary weight. Heck he could probably suit up now !

These types of scenarios are why Beane would consider a move up. If your draft plans are targeting very specific players, you need to move around the board in the early round(s). Many disagree with spending multiple picks when a player “ will probably still be available” in the original slot. However , sitting still can backfire too. The Bills missed out on Ted Washington for their Super Bowl run in the 90’s by a single pick when the 49ers drafted him . It would have been nice to have his run stuffing capabilities instead of Wright.
