Is Sean McDermott our version of Doug Collins?
schoolhouserock replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t believe either of your examples will end up winning a Lombardi with their new teams. Has any former Super Bowl winning coach won a championship with a new team? I can’t think of any. Retreads. -
Is Sean McDermott our version of Doug Collins?

Smart money is on McD over any retread that would take his stead. The idea that anyone else could waltz in tomorrow and win the big one is, to me, pure fantasy. -

No. All of these comparisons… McD is like Marty… McD is like Doug… They are all flawed from the outset. This is an attempt to simplify a concept to such a degree that it loses all meaning. -
My feeling is that the Bills will win fewer regular season games in 2023 than they did in 2022. However, I think the 2023 team has a legitimate shot at performing better in the playoffs than the 2022 team. My reasoning is that the AFC as a whole is better this year than last, but that the other “top” teams (KC and CIN) are not necessarily any better off this year than last.

I wish there were an antidote for fans who want change for the sake of change. These are typically the same folks that worship at the feet of Andy Reid despite having “failed” 9 times in Philadelphia and 5 more times in KC BEFORE finally winning one. Yes, his name is Andy Reid and he was fired from Philadelphia after making the playoffs, but not winning the Super Bowl, 9 times in 13 seasons. He then took KC to the playoffs five more times and failed to win the Super Bowl before they finally won it on his sixth try.

It is a matter of expectation versus outcome. It is unreasonable to treat the expectations and outcomes of a first round pick as being equal to those of a sixth round pick. GMs are not immune to criticism for failing on late round picks. It is because the expectation for those picks is so small, that a failure receives lessened criticism and a large success receives greater praise. The expectation of success for a 6th round pick is, in my opinion, so small that a complete failure would not warrant the label of “bust”.

Need an additional category for fewer than 35 TDs.

Who will be 2nd in targets?

Who will be 2nd in targets?

Dorsey and Shula overlapped at the panthers from 2013-2017. Olsen: 2013 - #1 in targets 2014 - #2 in targets 2015 - #1 in targets 2016 - #1 in targets 2017 - injured in Week 2 (against the Bills no less) He went onto IR for much do that season. I understand that Olsen was into his prime at that time, but part of the equation was knowing how to use him. I voted for Davis, but this poll is not outrageous. With both Dorsey and Shula on this Bills offensive staff, there is a path for Kincaid targets. It is exactly why this could end up being a really good first round pick. -

I went with Davis, but there is certainly a path for Kincaid. The 2015 Panthers leading target getter was, by a pretty wide margin, Greg Olsen (124 targets vs the runner up, Ginn Jr at 97). I don’t recall if they had Olsen in the Y (like Knox) or the F (presumably like Kincaid). -
Some insight on Bills first round and how it went down

Are you referring to the original post? If so, I think you should read it again. The original post says nothing about Dallas wanting to take Kincaid. -

The gamble on Dorsey to incorporate a player like Kincaid may be a good one. https://twitter.com/erikjturner/status/1652295065191022597?s=46&t=nBNWGpzYcB5-vfXBbBK7Jg

To add to this… In the 2022 season, Iowa had one of the nation’s best overall defenses. The only offensive player of note, however, was LaPorta. 2022 was the worst O-line Ferentz has fielded in over 20 years. Brutal. At one point of the season, they had the nation’s top scoring defense and the nations worst scoring offense. That defense has a few more NFL-caliber players that will get picked in the 2024 and 2025 NFL drafts.

Your one, and only one, draft hot take?

Anthony Richardson will be the most successful QB taken in this draft. -

Exactly! We will take defense at 24, after trading up. -
UPDATED - v3.0 (FINAL) on p.13 - Gunner's 2023 Mock Draft
schoolhouserock replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Assuming the Bills stay at 27, I would be A-OK with Hyatt. -
Sam LaPorta was the only player worth watching on Iowa’s putrid offense in 2022. Had Iowa fielded even a middling offense, folks would be talking about LaPorta in the same breath as Hockenson, Fant, and all the other past Iowa TEs.

I am all aboard the Zay Flowers at #27 bandwagon. That said, if the Bills wait until the later rounds to draft a WR, I like Charlie Jones as a target. Has enough speed and agility to compete and was always a heady player. Very underutilized at Iowa and has himself a breakout season when featured at Purdue.
