  1. I generally agree with this - except the bolded. I expect the Bills to be a formidable/competitive team week in and week out. Injuries and unforeseen circumstances notwithstanding (see last season) I don't expect to go into any game thinking we'll be lucky/fortunate to come out with a W. LOL - my Mets/Bills coffee mugs are in the midst of the transition. Same with the hats
  2. This tattoo that I outgrew, I never thought it through before like you I wish somehow I knew to listen to my missing voice of reason What would it take? don't make me beg I'm falling on my knees Could you stick around to tighten loose ends for me It's not too difficult to tighten loose ends
  3. I just noticed that they batted Dominguez third tonight. That surprised me.
  4. @ExWNYer @Gugny @Another Fan Mauricio trivia.....answers further down: 1) He had two hits in his Mets/MLB debut. Who is the last Met to do that? 2) He went 3 for 4 in his first Mets/MLB at bats? Who is the last Met to do that? 3) He went 4 for 5 in his first Mets/MLB at bats? Who is the last Met to do that? 1) Steven Matz 2) Luis Guillorme 3) Jake DeGrom
  5. I wasn't a follower, but some great tunes for sure. My lasting memory will be going to an aquarium when my kids were young on the other side of the Delaware from Philadelphia and there was a parking lot next door filled with RV's. Found out later it was for a Jimmy Buffet concert. He brought a lot of joy to a lot of people and that's a life well led in my book.
  6. @ExWNYer @Gugny @Another Fan In his first at bat Mauricio purportedly hit the hardest ball a Met has hit all year. I saw the at bat (RFer was frozen) and watched him get stranded at third. Looks like a big dude - surprised he projected as a SS let alone 2B.
  7. Now I'm not a man with a grasp on reality Kerouac is wack and I'm down with Dostoevsky Sugar's got my back plus Baretta. 380's One of which I dropped as the man tried to bait me Come on, find yourself
  8. A recent one in my workplace is 'lean into'. Another pet peeve of mine is the overuse of acronyms. Here's a line from someone's recent meeting notes: "KM to send BS B2O BPS options document". The best part is that BS is someone's initials - and BS is referred to as BHS further up in the notes. Also, B20 should have been S2O. WTF?
  9. I'm looking forward to seeing Mauricio too. He better not get the Vientos treatment (bring him up and sit him down). Unless there's an off-season trade Mets will have some interesting decisions next spring wrt Mauricio, Baty and Vientos. Based on this past year Baty seemed to hold most favored nation status with the Mets brass. Probably helped his cause when he got sent down to Triple A and tore it up. I think they're comfortable moving McNeil around and tbh I am too so that will help. But I'm not wild about playing the younger guys out of position, in particular Baty in LF.
  10. @ExWNYer @Gugny @Another Fan Anyone happen to catch the game tonight? Great (albeit meaningless) win. Fun watch from the 7th on. DJ Stewart making a strong case to replace Vogelbach.
  11. So the bull called shotgun? Any word on who/what got stuck in the back seat?
  12. I'm getting feelings I'm hiding too well (Bury the heart-shaped shell) Something broke inside my stomach I let the pieces lie just where they fell (Being with you is hell) Hair blown in an open car Summer dress slips down her arm
  13. Wake up You're gonna wake up to nothin' Break up The break up is comin' And when your heart is hollow Another pill to swallow
  14. WRT Verlander - where we disagree is the underachieving. In my eyes he got swept up in the two years of overpaid-ness and lack of availability of DeGrom/Scherzer. For sure he started his Mets stint on the DL and had a slow start, but he was pitching well when we cut the cord. LMFAO at the Buck low-talker comments -spot on. And like you and @Another Fan I'm not on the fire Buck band-wagon, but if they have someone in mind to replace him I'm all ears
  15. I probably missed your 'offensive' posts - or maybe I'm not easily offended. Always considered you to be a venerable poster. But I'll agree that Covid/Hapless was a bad combo. The pinned 'facts only' covid thread was a low point for the site IMO. As to the current state of the site - I miss the times where the trolls would get called out for crusading. I've been here for awhile and always considered it a sign of weakness to block someone. That changed for me the past year.
  16. This is just a courtesy call This is just a matter of policy This is just an act of kindness To let you know that your time is up
  17. Appreciate your perspective. I'm a milquetoast poster who has never received a warning so my perspective is from the outside looking in. With that said, the self-policing I was referring to pre-dates the Hapless years afaik
  18. I'm a big fan of self-policing. I'm sure I've posted this before but one of the greatest lines ever came from Mets closer Braden Looper after a beanball game when he was asked whether he intentionally hit a batter after a Met had been hit. To paraphrase: Sometimes things happen in baseball. And then sometimes other things happen. Off topic - this site was much better at self-policing when I first stumbled upon it.
  19. Vogelsnacks has definitely worn out his welcome. He's not a good enough hitter to be a one-dimensional player. Agreed on Verlander. But a lot has been said about the Mets punting on 2024 and being in position to go for it in 2025. My sense if that they aren't throwing in the towel on 2024 - they just won't be all-in for contracts like they gave to Verlander and almost gave to Correa. I'll be very interested to see how the Ohtani situation plays out this off-season - it got more complicated with his latest injury. Also agree that the shine is off the Showalter apple. The Buck scowl every time a Met got hit last year was cute, but at some point I'd like to see the Mets retaliate. There have also been hints at clubhouse issues, but nothing concrete afaik - but my radar is up and if there's any meat on that bone than Buck would bear some responsibility.
  20. That explains why nobody ever says it to me
  21. A work-related one that happens during the Q&A part of a presentation: "That's a good question". I always wonder what the presenter really thinks about the question.
  22. "The <insert-persons-name>'s of the world" Whoever the person is, there is only one of them dammit! Another pet peeve I have is really just a malaprop: "It's a mute point".
  23. Many years ago I read all of the Tom Clancy books. An awesome story line would be that this guy faked Putin out and wasn't on the plane.
  24. Watching the Crankees struggle definitely helps. I've been keeping my eye on Rodon cuz I think there was an argument to be made that the Mets should have gone after him instead of Verlander (or Senga or Quintana). Based on early returns I'm glad we steered clear, but that could change. In hindsight it's a good thing the Correa deal fell through. A few random thoughts: Lindor: what a great shortstop. Unfortunately, in my eyes he still has to overcome the rotten stench of his first season at the plate with the Mets - to some extent it reminds me of how Beltran's one caught looking overshadows the rest of his Mets career. It would help if Lindor got his average above .280, doesn't seem like a big ask given his salary. Quintana: he's been as advertised. Too bad he missed the first half, he could've made a difference. Marte: I've been checking milk cartons for his picture. Mets (and Marte) haven't been the same since his injury last year. Pete: there was some smoke recently about clubhouse issues, but I haven't read anything definitive and so far now I'll chalk it up to talking heads stirring the pot. The relief pitchers: who the hell are these guys? Every game it's someone new that I've never heard of. The rebuilt farm system: what I've been wondering about lately is where tis he line drawn between drafting/acquiring exceptional talent vs. developing the talent you have. We've upgraded the talent level down on the farm but we need to convert that into exceptional MLB players. His current slump notwithstanding Alvarez looks like a keeper. I'm much less convinced about Baty or Vientos.
  25. It was in the middle of suburbia - they suspected an issue with a hot water tank. https://nypost.com/2023/08/17/pennsylvania-house-explosion-leaves-sixth-person-dead-from-injuries/
