  1. They just mentioned on the Mets broadcast that Scherzer will only start on Sunday if the game has any meaning to the Rockies, otherwise they'll shut him down. Thumbs up. If he does pitch, I hope he pitches the game of his life...but he still won't deserve the 2018 Cy.
  2. Anyone remember Vin Scelsa and the Ramones attacks?
  3. That dudes head is shinier than your helmet.
  4. I've probably posted this before, but when Braden Looper was a Met he retaliated for a Met getting hit. When asked after the game whether he thought either hit batter was intentional he said something like "Sometimes things happen in a game....and then sometimes other things happen.". It was the perfect response.
  5. I wonder if CC knew it would cost him a half mill or he was just in the moment. I for one have no problem with throwing at a batter...but the head is off limits. Sounds like CC did it right. I don't remember who or when (probably the following year) but someone on the Mets plunked Utley. And he calmly dropped his bat and took first. Case closed. Oh God, Estes missing behind Clemens was freaking embarassing. But then didn't Estes go deep on Clemens?
  6. I was listening to Jon Heyman on local radio today and he said the same thing.
  7. My comments might not have come off that way, but I totally agree.
  8. As much as I like and agree with the "one game at a time" mentality, it also lends itself to the wild emotional swings we see way too much. Myself included. I always liked taking the temperature every 4 games. Honestly, before last week I had us pegged at 0-4. So I guess where I'm at is look forward 1 game, but look back 4 or more.
  9. The curse of the expanded September roster. Brew Crew only gave up 4 runs but needed 9 pitchers to do it. They should expand the roster in September but make teams name a 25 man roster for each game. Teams would sit 4 starting pitchers every night but it would still be a step in the right direction.
  10. Check out the sea lions that took over pier 39 years ago. The Alcatraz tour is really good, but if you go don't be late for the boat you want to take back. I watched a couple show up about 5 seconds after they closed the gate on a half empty boat and they got denied. I wouldn't go out of my way, but the light show on the Oakland Bay Bridge is pretty cool if you're in that area.
  11. I think he deserves it too. There are a Stat: DeGrom/Scherzer/Nola WHIP: .95/.917/.983 SO: 251/290/210 IP: 202/213.2/199 Games: 30/32/31 Innings per start: 6.73/6.68/6.42 ERA: 1.78/2.57/2.44 Record: 9-9/17-7/16-5 A lot of people seem to be writing off Nola's chances, I guess based on WHIP and strikeouts. To his credit he pitches in a bandbox. Scherzer will probably get to 300 strikeouts and that will be hard to ignore, but it really comes down to ERA vs. win-loss record. DeGrom is so far ahead on ERA that he gets my vote.
  12. Cool watching him play this live, but when the band kicks in the sound quality suffers so posting live and studio.
  13. I could care less about Tyrod or Baker or Darnold or the Browns D or... On this evening I give thanks to the Browns for breaking their losing streak against the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS JETS!!!!
  14. Which inquiring minds? I was pretty young, remember the bad name, but not the songs so I googled. Remembered more than one, ergo not one hit wonders. Or Badfish. Pretty sure it's thanks to you posting the Badfish video in another thread that I came across a live version that I like:
  15. Next up on memory lane... When Gsellman came in tonight he used the Nationals bullpen car and came out to a standing O by the home crowd. The cars are similar to to the Mets baseball bullpen cars from the 70's, but none of the relievers have been using them, thus the standing O. Got me reminiscing. The Yankees had pinstriped Toyotas to bring in the pitchers. The car would come in from CF and ride the warning track and then follow the dirt perimeter in foul territory. When it made the turn by the foul pole it would get pummeled by beers, sodas, hot dogs, pop corn, etc.. I used to tune in just for the pitching changes, it was a nightly occurrence. What I don't remember is they did it to Yankees too:
  16. Saw the Mets take a 3-0 lead and then flipped over to Jets-Browns. Flipped back to Mets to check the score in time to catch a clip I had never seen before. The 1969 Mets on the Ed Sullivan show singing "You Gotta Have Heart" from the Broadway show "Damn Yankees". Best part is they didn't use the nickames like Bud Harrelson, Duffy Dyer and J.C. Martin. For the record I was going on 6 when they won the WS and only have a vague recollection of seeing something good happen for the Mets in the WS on the black and white and then going into the backyard to play because it was too nice to be inside.
  17. Not as bad as the exploding sperm whales:
  18. 10 pages in 4 hours debating whether the duo who broke the drought are the worst since Polian? Time will tell, but that time is not now.
  19. Probably some truth to the expectations, but I have a Whole Lotta Love for his Mets career. Wright and Kranepool are Met lifers...not sure who else. There were Good Times Bad Times, but unfortunately when it came time to pay him, the richard-head owner said he was a "good kid" but not a "superstar". How Many More Times do we have to put up with stuff like this: http://www.espn.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6601472 Wilpon wasn't really wrong, but WTF? Naturally David Wright took the high road and shrugged it off. Communication Breakdown, it's always the same. Looking forward to Celebration Day on 9/29, I hope he's able to Bring It On Home one more time Thank You
  20. I thought you were talking from your own point of view with "fine say home" not the Hall's. On this we agree. It's blackmail pure and simple. I was just on espn and it looks like the united front may not be so united. Jerry Rice and Kurt Warner were not "on board". Ironically they spelled Carl Ellard (sic) correctly this time around. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24720441/group-hall-famers-threaten-boycott-induction-ceremony-nfl-provides-health-insurance-annual-salaries
  21. It would be a different conversation for me if they were using their status as HOFers to advocate for themselves as well as non-HOFers. Where we disagree is "Fine, stay home guys". IMO, part of the induction ceremony is being celebrated amongst your peers and becoming part of that elite group. Having that elite group cheapen the day for next years inductees leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
  22. I hear ya, I'm just worried about his consistency. His only consistency so far is being a feast or famine guy. And I get your face of the franchise point, I just hope we don't get blinded and try to force it. BTW, I'm probably coming off as more negative about him than I actually am, but I was expecting more from him this year.
  23. I expect they'll hold back Alonso for the first month to preserve free agency so I'd make it Bruce/Alonso and also plug Bruce into the OF rotation. I give you full credit for saying Bruce wouldn't play the third year with the Mets when he signed year, but they'll need to make him attractive to another team in order to move him next year. I just assumed Jackson would be gone after this year, but maybe I should re-think that. I think he hit better for us this year than he will next year. Law of averages, he is what he is. Food for thought: would you consider moving Conforto in a deal for Realmuto? It would take more, but I'm not as tied to the hip with Conforto as I was at the start of the season and I'd consider it..
  24. Didn't these same people rip T.O for not attending? But now it's OK to take away the spotlight from next years inductees?
