  1. That was great. I first got interested in watching the draft just to see the Jet fan reactions. I will fall over if the Jets and Browns don't take a QB with their first pick.
  2. We came up for the Broncos game last year. Small sample, but for me it was the people. Everyone we came across was extremely friendly and upbeat.
  3. That's the way I see it too. As I recall, last year Trubisky, Watson and Mahomes weren't as highly regarded as this class. Wasn't there shock when the Bears moved up to 2 for Trubisky? I'm holding out hope that we can swing a deal with the Giants, but it takes two to tango and we may not have a dance partner. The Jets trade up aggravates me to no end.
  4. Yeah, I remember Tatum/Stingley. Read Tatum's book, it was an eye opener. Fred B (won't try to spell), Branch,...that team was loaded. And was one of the first that would bring in the "washed up" veteran and get a ton out of them (Plunkett, Hendricks, Alzado). And definitely some Bills-Raiders connections along the way: Lamonica (before my time...learned about that on this site), Lofton, Bob Chandler.
  5. I thought we were done with the April Fools threads.
  6. Raiders. Growing up far from Buffalo I chose the Bills over the Jets and Giants. I guess you could say the Raiders were my playoff team. Stabler, Casper, Ted Hendricks, Lester the Molester,... I'm sure if I grew up in Buffalo there'd be no second favorite. I don't have one for baseball or hockey.
  7. I re-visited the Black Sabbath back catalogue this past week for the first time in a long while and figured I'd come back to see if anyone had ever posted in this thread. You won. Bumping with the first song from the first album:
  8. Hard to mention Army of Darkness without a shout out to Evil Dead. Also reminded me of another good one: They Live with Rowdy Roddy Piper.
  9. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him get on track. The guy is all effort and an amazing CFer, just hasn't found his way at the plate. Over the weekend I think I heard Keith say something to the effect that he thinks too much at the plate...which is kinda funny coming from Keith. So maybe you're right about letting loose. Anyway, I'm glad they haven't given up on him.
  10. I never saw Plan 9, but knew its rep. Good call. Dexter Rutecki!
  11. If Lagares is in the game, he's playing CF. I had high hopes for him. Injuries have been a factror, but he just hasn't developed as a hitter and now he faces an uphill battle for playing time. As for the weather, around 6 inches of snow this morning, it was coming down pretty good on my way to work. There were pictures of a snow man that the Mets made a at Citi Field today. I love baseball but would have no problem if they shortened both ends of the season.
  12. Good stuff. I'm not a stats guy but I think many people would agree that Piazza was the greatest hitting catcher of all time. For that alone he should've been first ballot. I'm surprised Bench's average was as high as it was. Impressive. Right or wrong, when it comes to the Hall my opinions are more subjective than objective. I never understood why it took so long for Bruce Sutter to make it in and IMO Curt Schilling is deserving. I get that Yadier's hitting stats will probably keep him out, that's why I brought up the topic in the first place. But he's been a great catcher and clutch performer his whole career. Has there been a better catcher the past 10 years? Posey? Mauer? I'm probably forgetting someone. One last note: my usual criterion for the Hall is that if there's any debate then the guy doesn't belong. By that measure Yadier doesn't make it...regardless what I think
  13. Sweet comeback. For the record I could care less whether Molina makes the Hall, JMO that he's deserving and I was interested what others thought and enjoy the debate. Have a nice day.
  14. Dude, you're reading my mind WRT Chipper. I freaking hated what that guy did to us. In an odd twist I'm pretty sure that it was Piazza that outed him as Laaaaaarrrrrry! Guy named one of his kids Shea! I hate/love that! I'll stand by my Yadier HOF call. I really think the guy is deserving...and again I'm a tough grader, I could care less about stats. BTW, don't get me started on Piazza not being first ballot.
  15. You should not be checking your phone for new posts during Easter Mass Requesting no prank posts on April 1 is sacrilegious IMO.
  16. I had no idea who Mr. 3.61 ERA was either before I saw the headline about the signing recently. Just seemed like a good opportunity to derail what I thought was a silly thread. Carry on.
  17. Thanks for the opportunity to derail this thread. Are you referring to the Greg Holland who was tied for the NL lead in saves in 2017? That's gotta be a record for a middle reliever.
  18. To my eyes Yadier is Hall-worthy, but I understand your sentiment. I think it's fair to say that the HOF is slanted towards hitting. As much as I love what Piazza brought to the Mets, he was an average catcher at best. Bench is probably the greatest all-around catcher I've seen.
  19. I wonder what Molina's legacy will be. Hall of Famer? He's a perennial All Star but in this day and age most people get so wrapped up in offensive stats. Personally, I'd put him in the Hall and I tend to be a tough grader.
  20. I heard that the choice between d'Arnaud and Plawecki comes down to the batting matchup with the opposing pitcher, not who's starting for the Mets. We'll see how it plays how as the season progresses. Ideally one of them wins the job outright.
  21. I don't follow this line of reasoning. He's under contract AND everyone heard his non-committal statements after the SB. I have a hard time believing a trade/retire scenario is realistic. And why the hell would the Pats trade him anyway with Brady getting closer to retirement?
  22. I posted a few memories in the Rusty thread but I found out since that I actually witnessed his last HR at Shea. Never knew that before today. Very cool that the opening day crowd today got to pay their respects. I wasn't there but they had a moment of silence for Ed "The Glider" Charles, a longtime employee and Rusty. And not to be morose, but if you weren't aware Bud Harrelson has been in the news lately due to Alzheimers. Circle of life. Lets Go Mets. Wish we were playing tomorrow.
  23. I'm not down with the Cabrera/Tejada comparison. Ruben Tejada has done nothing in this league. He's three years younger than Asdrubal and was fattening up before he ever established himself. Asdrubal has had a nice career....which he's been on the downside of since we got him. I'm not wild about Asdrubal at 2B either (although thrilled it's not 3B), but he's a gamer, has given the Mets two solid years, much better than anything Ruben gave us.
