Is the chuckle I need an edible? Augie - this is not a laughing matter - no wait, it is, everything seems funny right now- wait, what were we talking about? We should get some pop tarts - better yet, more chuckles!

Which new wave band is your favorite?

Not sure who you had in mind but Adele's 21 sticks out as an example for me. WRT classifying the Cult as New Wave...that's a swing and a miss. -
The only explanation that makes any sense to me is it prevents him from accruing service time which potentially delays free agency. This article from a few years ago about a Reds prospect claims that it only makes sense to delay the promotion to the big leagues if you expect the guy to be on the major league roster early the next season. Oops forgot to add the link: https://redlegnation.com/2015/08/19/jesse-winker-september-call-ups-and-service-time/

Reggae too. -
Bollocks is one of the greatest albums of all time. It defined a genre. Not one that I'll ever forget.

This thread reminded me of Pee Wee Herman in Nice Dreams. 20 seconds in and after a couple of f-bombs: For the life of me I don't know what constitutes New Wave. To me it's more about what its not: punk, metal, pop and straight up rock. But if the Cars are New Wave, I'll go with them. -
An 18-game season with 16-game player limits?
SinceThe70s replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wonder if an 18 game season would dilute the playoff implications the last two weeks of the season. Of course they probably already thought of that...we'll need more playoff teams/games. -
I think Mets were paying him league minimum so anything they got was a bonus. Maybe it will free up roster space for your boy Borenstein when rosters expand.

Sisters of Mercy hits the nail on the head for me. I had "First and Last and Always" on vinyl way back when. Not sure how I stumbled into them, at the time I was listening to metal almost exclusively but I always thought that album was strong. I'll have to revisit to see if it stands the test of time.

...and there are only 7 games left in their season. I wonder if there's any insurance scenario where it's determined he's physically unable to play and insurance still pays out. Seems like there isn't and this whole "comeback attempt" is intended to make sure insurance continues to pay 75% until the contract runs out.

I just got home from the game. I actually gave the fam the option of leaving after the 8th but nobody bit. The final indignity was the Nat's pitcher getting hurt after the 2nd out in the bottom of the 9th and we had to wait while they carted him off the field. On the plus side, Matz looked great.

I think you missed my point. Sure coaches and the team should (and do) prep for common game situations. Same can be said for every single offensive and defensive play that gets drawn up and practiced by every single player. But pre-season is where rookies do it live for the first time. If you expect every rookie player or coach to have the game time decision making and preparedness down cold before their first regular season game I think you're expecting too much. Also "4 minutes left down by 4" may be a common scenario but I don't think it dictates "exactly what they are going to do in that particular situation". There may be a bunch of other factors to consider whether it's preseason or regular season.

As I stated, her reasons have nothing to do with maintaining the status quo. You can chose to believe that or not. Beyond that I'm not about to present or debate her opinion on the matter. I thought the comment that I responded to was superficial. "The only people who want to keep make it legal are those with a vested interest in breaking the status quo" would be just as silly to me. For the record I think it should be legal and I don't agree with my wifes opinion.
-
That may be so, I wasn't watching the game or taking a side either way, just pointing out that it's preseason for rookie coaches too. I think all of us armchair QB/coaches take for granted that these decisions are made in real time and its easy for us to point out which ones they get wrong. (or right) There's got to be a learning curve for a head coach and preseason is the first time they actually have to make real time decisions. The more reps they get, the better they'll be at it.
-
That is patently false. I'm married to a woman with zero vested interest who thinks it should remain illegal. You and I may disagree with her reasoning but I can assure you it has nothing to do with maintaining the status quo.
-
I'm not watching the game, but my first thought was just that - it's preseason, who cares. Then it occurred to me that preseason is the first time rookie coaches have to make these decisions in real time. Probably easier said than done.

I'm more upset about what he didn't eat. He should've chowed down on Brady and Belichik when he had the chance.

Zappa Plays Zappa plays anything and everything. For a few years it looked like they'd focus on an album from 40 years before. In 2014 they played a lot from Roxy & Elsewhere, in 2015 a lot from One Size Fits All. Not sure what they are playing these days, haven't seen them in a while.

Agreed that Dom should have been playing first since the last call up (regardless what I think of him). Felt bad about the LF mishap the other night. Not fair to have him learning a new position at the major league level. But I like the way they've handled Rosario. He's played the lions share of games and has gotten better as the season progressed. I see nothing to complain about with him, he was pretty bad at the plate early on. Didn't McNeil start the season at AA? He's hitting great, no guarantee that happened if they called him up sooner. Plus he still looks raw at 2B. I was just reading today how they dicked around with him in the minors playing him at 2b, 3b and OF. I also agree wrt to the Bautista, Frazier, Bruce, Wright logjam. Throw in Cespedes and I just don't know how they construct a team for next year with some of those guys still around.
-
Fair enough, I'll take back my no brainer comment. I can agree that you shouldn't change the lineup on a daily basis solely on metrics. But I still wouldn't put Dom Smith up against Bumgarner and leave the guy that hits the lefties better than anyone else on the team on the bench. I get how that's analytics based, but I also see it as good sense. Plus I still have no use for Dom Smith.
-
He did him a favor sitting him against Bumgarner. Mets scored one earned run against Bumgarner today. That raised Bumgarners ERA at CitiField. Before the game it was below 0.50. Batting Wilmer against the lefty was a no brainer.

He'll be in Westbury, NY next March. Strange venue, its in the round and the stage will be rotating throughout the show. I'm done with summer concerts, but might head indoors for Magpie Salute n September and Steven Wilson in December.

You and this guy have similar issues. My favorite line is around the 49 second mark about UPS and FedEx. (warning: this includes harsh language).

That was great, I've never seen that! But I did see the Mad Hungarian at Shea when he was with the Cardinals. My father hated his act, I thought it was pretty cool.
