  1. Pretty sure the song you referred to when you kicked off the thread is "Pour Some Sugar On Me" not "Awesome Sugar Honey"
  2. This reminded me of The Allman's - Eat a Peach...although not a song. Would Black Sabbath's Rat Salad count?
  3. I don't expect the Jags to win but I could see their defense giving the Pats fits. But every time I get my hopes up I'm reminded of Bortles. Of course if they bounce Bradys head off the turf like they did to Tyrod then anything is possible,
  4. Beer is good food! Not sure about "Gin and Juice".
  5. Breakfast: Jack Johnson -Banana Pancakes Lunch: David Lee Roth - Hot Dog And A Shake Dinner: ZZ Top - TV Dinners
  6. I grew up with the most awesome dog ever (just like many of you did too). He licked the plates after meals regularly, especially if steak was involved. He avoided ketchup like it was the plague. I don't think every plate made it to the dishwasher, hot water and soap is no different by machine or hand. This philosophy would not fly in my current domicile.
  7. This is a "wish I'd said that" post. Could not agree more. Only thing I'll add to this thread is that creepy me dropped into Google Maps street view and was shocked to see what looked like a very nice neighborhood. I expected to find a remote area or run-down neighborhood. Obviously makes no difference to the 13 abused, just harder for me to understand how it went undetected.
  8. Can you imagine what it was like to walk into that situation? I have to think there was at least some skepticism, but at the very least it had to be much worse than what they were expecting.
  9. One thing that crossed my mind is how they responded once they saw what they were dealing with inside the house. Immediate reaction would be to render assistance, but to some degree I would expect they need to document the crime scene to make sure it's an open and shut case and not give the lawyers anything to work with.
  10. I like this signing. Low cost, low risk. A one year insurance policy at first base. Much better than the thought of Bruce playing there. But I'm not convinced they've given up on Smith yet. I don't see how any top prospect gets judged solely on their first 50 games. Signing Gonzalez provides insurance and maybe some extra motivation for Smith. Back in November Alderson had some pointed comments about Smith: http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2017/11/could_the_mets_shelve_dominic_smith_and_replace_hi.html At the general manager meetings in Orlando this week, when asked if Smith was guaranteed the job of starting first baseman, Alderson told reporters, "He didn't win it in September, let's put it that way." And it looks like the message was delivered: https://nypost.com/2017/11/29/slimmed-down-dominic-smith-isnt-ceding-mets-first-base-job/ The Mets first baseman, whose conditioning came into question this past season during a rough six-week stretch to begin his major league career, said he’s lost 11-12 pounds this offseason as he makes better food choices and works out daily in Los Angeles. “This is something I want to get under control and never make an issue again,” Smith said
  11. Maybe if it's the start of a 17 year playoff drought. I have a friend that is a huge Saints fan going back to the Archie Manning era who offered his perspective. One thing to remember is that the Saints were getting blown out and lucky it was only 17-0. But in his words: "It sucked, but if I could survive the "Beast Mode" run in Seattle or the Capernic Comeback in San Francisco I can survive this. It still sucked though. At least Atlanta lost too."
  12. I am not looking forward to a Super Bowl with the Patriots. I am not looking forward to a Super Bowl with Blake Bortles the Jaguars I am not looking forward to a Super Bowl with Nick Foles the Eagles I am not looking forward to a Super Bowl with Case Keenum the Vikings. What I want more than anything else is the Jags to beat the Pats. After that doesn't happen I want the NFC team to win.
  13. Where we disagree is that I think it's Alderson's job to temper expectations and more to the point prepare for the season as if DW will never play another game at 3B...or anywhere else for that matter. DW has a contract that will pay him more money than I could ever dream of making. Asking him to walk away from that money is foolish. This is speculation, but I think that every attempt he makes at rehab and every public statement he makes about coming back is all about maintaining the insurance payouts on his contract. On the flip side (and I'm not convinced this applies to DW), I ALWAYS admire the superstar athlete that hangs on as long as he can, even when the public thinks he should retire. To me it's a sign of their competitiveness that helped them achieve their greatness.
  14. My assumption is this (along with the complementary "moral of the Saints victory" thread) is a social media experiment. All I can add is that Tatonka68 is f'n crazy.
  15. Wrights contract is not his fault and anyone who takes it against him is, um,...choose your adjective...arrogant, dim-witted, ignorant, non-salaried,... Totally agree that he has been loyal and classy. I am an unabashed champion of Sandy Anderson, but this was his signing so blame him. Particularly if you had a crystal ball and knew that DW would have a debilitating back injury. And the next time you B word and moan that Sandy doesn't pull the trigger on a long term contract for anyone, check your comments at the door. Back to DW, his contract is guaranteed, right? But unless I'm mistaken, insurance is paying the majority every year so the hit for the Mets is any impact on the luxury tax. Not sure that's an issue. IMO, the bigger impact on the Mets is the perception/fact that they are keeping third base warm for him. This aggravates me to no end. I'm sick and tired of stop-gap solutions (Reyes, Carbrera, Wilmer, ...) and want the Mets to treat 3B like Wright will never be back...which is what I fully expect.
  16. Good points all around. Anyone remember Juan Samuel in CF? Howaed Johnson at SS, CF? Hundley in LF (OK, bad example that was to make room for Piazza). Wilmer pretty much anywhere
  17. I don't see Conforto as an everyday CF, but it looks like we may see more of that. I could live with it short term, but 3 years seems like too much to me. Alderson has taken a bunch of shots at Smith since the season ended. From what I heard Smith's conditioning worsened after his call up. Not a good look for him, but I expected it to be his job to lose as well anyway. This makes me wonder, and the thought of Bruce playing 1B scares me. The consensus from the guys on SNY last night was it's a good move since Bruce comes relatively cheap. We'll see. No doubt it helps offensively.
  18. I missed the Olson hiring, so scratch that. I had heard the Morton rumor days ago.
  19. I just saw this. Makes no sense to me. Wasn't he part of the outfield log-jam last year? Are we turning him into a first baseman? 3 years? My gut reaction is that this will not end well.
  20. Will the soup be east of the ham and cheese roast beef?
  21. I'm pretty similar in many regards. I can't remember ever giving money to a panhandler but the situation doesn't present itself very often. Just before Christmas I was in Grand Central Station having breakfast with my family. Watched a homeless man picking through a garbage pail when a woman walked up to him and offered a bag of food. Looked like she had just bought it specifically for him or someone else homeless. He refused it. No idea why. Nerves, pride, whatever. He walked away, she left it next to the pail hoping he would come back for it and then walked away. A few minutes later a worker saw it tossed it the pail. Sad thing to see. Over the summer I was in Chicago headed towards a convenience store in the early evening. There was a homeless guy asleep on the sidewalk and I watched a well-dressed couple place a large bag of left-overs next to him and walk away. Thought that was a cool gesture and I hope he accepted the food when he woke up.
  22. I only remembered because the first time you posted the link I went out on my lunch break and saw their tour bus in the hotel across the street from my office.
