  1. I can see Mayfield being a favorite of McD. He is competitive and has an underdog mentality. McD had the same coming from a small school DB. Some may say Mayfield is overconfident, some say cocky. But he is a QB when your down two TD's with five minutes to go that you want in your huddle telling the guys "we're gonna do this" As for the moving up thing, This is a no brainer. Bills are merely trying to throw smoke screens so that they have to give up the least amount of collateral to move up But make no mistake, they are moving up.
  2. no surprise here. Bills are all in for their franchise QB
  3. I consider Mayfield an exception to the rule when it comes to the height stuff. He has incredible production against some of the best in the country. His intangibles are off the charts. Leadership qualities. Accuracy is fantastic. Can make all the throws. If he was some run-of-the-mill QB with semi-impressive stats against average competition, then I can see the height issue being a thing. But there have been many QB's that have come into the league and have thrived despites some negative attributes through sheer will, and Mayfield comes across as that type of someone. I would love if the Bills took him or Darnold. The others concern me.
  4. Not many 5th round picks set the league on fire their rookie season. Take the Charger game away and Peterman's 18/35 for 186 Yards, 2 TD/0 INT. Not great, not horrendous. Tom Brady his first year was 1/3 for 6 yards. He didn't start a game until his second season. Troy Aikman threw 1 TD and 6 INT's his first three starts. His final start his rookie year he had 0 TD's and 4 INT's. Eli Manning's first four starts he completed 38% if his passes, averaged 112 pass yards per game, threw 1 TD & 6 INT's and was sacked 9 times. My point isn't that Peterman is the next Troy Aikman or Eli Manning. But to think Peterman outright sucks and is a lost cause after 1 bad start is just moronic, especially when he had a OT/turnstile blocking (or not) for him. Over the season, Peterman made some impressive throws and did some good things when called upon, which for a rookie I would say are positives. You don't give up on late round QB's after one bad start. Hell, you don't even give up on first-rounders after a handful of bad starts. Listen, Mills so happened to have a really BAD game during a week in which Tyrod was benched. His performance was SO bad that even Bosa commented that he LITERALLY wasn't trying to block him. On the play where Bosa crushed Peterman, that's just a really bad look, not to mention what I was told. Peterman did make some rookie mistakes. But it wasn't like he was sitting in a clean pocket all day overthrowing guys. Given time to develop I believe Peterman could be a good QB. How good, only time will tell. No, he is not good enough for the Bills to not go after their franchise QB in 2018. Could he develop into trade bait down the road? Perhaps. Maybe a solid backup...maybe with experience a solid starter. None of us know, and one start certainly isn't the end-all of his career either. Regardless, he is smart and did enough to warrant the opportunity. Mills has one year left on his contract, and as far as I'm concerned that's one year too many.
  5. I ran into an acquaintance last week at a local place here in Las Vegas ( I know, Vegas, right?). He is from Clarence, and says he has two close friends whom both work within the Bills organization. When the topic of Nathan Peterman came up vs. the Chargers, he rolled his eyes and laughed. Told me that some in the building firmly believe that Jordan Mills was so PI$$ED about Taylor's benching that he purposely became a turnstile vs. the Chargers to sabotage Peterman's start. Now, first of all I'm skeptical when someone says they have "friends" that work at One Bills Drive (I don't know their names). Secondly, I never heard of any claims of players having it in for Peterman over Taylor's benching nor feel that any professional would put another athletes health at risk over a benching. So I went to the video myself to see if I could notice anything out of the ordinary from Mills' side. Now, keep in mind that Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are two great athletes. But if you closely watch Mills vs both of them, this guy's friends may be onto something. I pulled this video from Youtube which shows all 5 picks. (it will make you go to YouTube.com website to watch the video). Here is what I saw. :45 - Peterman threads a beautiful pass to Benjamin. If you notice Mills, he Ole's Melvin Ingram. Not only does he barely move, he just stands there after Ingram whiffs by him. Luckily on this play, Peterman completed the ball prior to Ingram getting to him. Horrible look, horrible effort by Mills. 2:04 - This was the screen pass to DeMarco. (Slow the video to .25 speed) Mills pulls inside once the Ball is snapped. Now keep in mind he is running opposite of where the ball is going. It looks as if he purposely avoids hitting Bosa (ducking to his left) to double team Ducasse's guy (who neither hit and the defender doesn't end up even being involved in the play) . Bosa fires up the line and hits DeMarco, throwing off his route. He then closes in on Peterman who has to rush the throw, which is tipped by DeMarco who is probably short of where he was supposed to be due to rubbing Bosa and it's intercepted and taken the other way. Now some will say "throw it away", or blame DeMarco. But Bosa's disruption based on Mills inability to just get in his way led to this. Another bad look. 3:59 - Ingram beats Mills on the outside and Mills hips end up facing the back of the end zone. Ingram is able to stick up his hand in Peterman's face, which makes him take a step back and right into Bosa coming in from behind. Now, a smarter QB would have stepped up, and on this play it just looks as if Mills got beat cleanly. But then again, who knows. 7:27 - On this play, Mills HAS to see that there is Bosa and a blitzer lined up outside of him. When the ball is snapped, he barely moves and once again ole's Bosa. While the RB takes on the blitzer, Bosa comes in and crushes Peterman. Now, some will say a veteran QB should just take the sack on that one and not throw the ball. But it doesn't take away the fact that Mills looked so badly beaten it makes you wonder how much of it was skill, and how much of it was anger over Taylor's benching? 8:17 - This was a quick three step drop and throw. For some reason Mills takes a step to the outside, knowing he needs to protect the inside gap to ensure Peterman has a clear line of sight. Mills basically gives Bosa an inside lane directly into this QB. This throws off the throw (it's a 3 step drop for God's sake) and ends up being an INT. Looking at this closely, Mills sets up so wide and then looks so badly beaten inside on such a simple blocking assignment it's f'n crazy. 9:39 - Peterman's final INT comes from Dawkins' side. It looks like Bosa makes a move inside and Dawkin's gets hurt (He favor's his shoulder as he comes off the field). But you'll notice this is the only INT that comes from pressure directly in the face of Peterman that doesn't come from Mills side.. Now, these are the only plays I have video of. Who knows how many more plays he may have whiffed at. After watching this video, one could say Mills just had a really bad day. But some can also say that, on some of those plays, it looks like Mills was barely making an effort (if any), which makes you wonder.....was he really trying to send a message to the coaching staff for benching Taylor? As for Peterman, he took a lot of heat for a performance that wasn't all his fault. Not only does he get a bad wrap from Bills fans, but from around the league in general. If Mills wanted to sabotage his start and make McDermott look stupid, he succeeded. It also earned TT the start the following week. Mission accomplished
  6. How I see it. 1 Bills- (trade up w/ Browns). Darnold 2 Giants- Chubb/Barkley 3 Jets- Rosen 4. Browns- Allen you can start as many threads as you want as to who the bills might “settle “ for. Right now Beane is merely in Damage control trying not to pay too high of a price to move up. But when you really feel there is a QB available that can alter your franchises history and you can move up to get him, you do so at all costs. Safe to day there are a slew of teams that would trade multiple first, second, and third round picks to go back and draft Brady in 2000. Thanks to the Jets, the Bills will more than likely overpay. But no one will care when the Bills are vying for championships in a couple years with Darnold under center. That’s why they obtained all those draft picks via trade. To get their QB of the future. In the end the Bills will get their guy regardless of cost.
  7. If the Browns pull the trigger with Buffalo it will be too late for Gettleman to get Darnold. I believe that’s why the Browns are trying to get the Giants to trade to 1. If Buffalo moves to 1 Cleveland can still get Allen at 4 plus a whole slew of Bills picks. The Browns need players and a franchise QB, not just a franchise QB. Trading with Buffalo gives them that. Based on this I would be surprised if Cleveland’s ends up picking at 1. It’s either going to come down to Giants or Bills moving up to 1.
  8. To me this means the Browns have a potential deal in place w/ Buffalo and the Bills covet Darnold. Why else would the Browns try to bait Gmen to move up one spot for a QB they don’t want. My sense is Browns know if Bills take Darnold, GIants will take Barkley or Chubb. That leaves 2 of 3 (either Allen, ROsen, Mayfield), at 4. Browns must know Jets would rather have Rosen or Mayfield and they will still get Allen. So their message to gettlemen is you either trade up to get your QB or lose him to Buffalo. I know there is a lot of what if. But I truly believe teams at the top have a sense of who wants what player by now. That’s why the are able to jockey so freely.
  9. The Bills may have an idea of who the Browns are favoriting at 1. If it’s Darnold they may Have a trade with the Giants in place if it’s not Darnold this could be a smokescreen for Gettlemen wanting Darnold so that any team interested in him needs to trade with Giants cuz Darnold isn’t getting past them. I think it’s all jockeying and coming from a Giants beat writer even increases the smokescreen factor
  10. I agree about Mayfield. Felt all off season he is the best prospect next to Darnold
  11. You dont reverse course a month out from the draft when you have a single goal in mind which is to move up and draft your franchise QB and youve been spending the last year acquiring assets to do so. Many are mistaking Inaction with second guessing. The Bills could have a couple deals on the table involving Giants and Broncos that may go down to draft day. No one knows. Until then we’ll get silly threads like this
  12. If Rudolph was the Bills choice there would be no talk of moving up to 2 They either have an idea of what the Browns are doing or have 2 guys they would be happy as heck to have (like 1983 when they took Tony Hunter With their first 1st round pick knowing 2 picks later they would have either Kelly or Marino available. )
  13. Said this in a previous thread when they signed Davis, Ivory, etc prior to FA. Only those players weren't tied to compensatory picks, so they were an even greater value.
  14. We'lll agree to disagree. I see the Jets trading to 3 cuz they know they have other non-QB players that can be franchise altering available cuz everyone is stuck on finding their next franchise QB. I also believe they see Bridgewater as their possible long term solution at only 25. They just want to make sure his knee checks out. That's not to mention what they may see in Petty or Hack. I think it's a really smart play for the Jets, and It also forces the Bills to move up to 1 or 2 for their QB, which ensures them even more that they will get a non-QB talent at 3.
  15. But why sign Bridgewater then? You have McCown , Petty and Hackenburg. If you draft a QB at 3 then you have to plan at some point you want him to see the field the first year. I believe they see Bridgewater as a guy that may be their QB of the future. He is only signed for a 1 year deal in case it doesn't work out. They can then get into the QB sweepstakes next year or trade for a veteran. There are non-QB players in this draft that some are saying are the best talent available. If you can get your top guy on the board at 3? That's a steal.
  16. My gut says the Bills are not done yet. They are weighing offers between Giants and Cleve. Cuz they haven't made a deal 6 weeks prior to the draft doesn't mean they aren't going to make one. It could come down to draft day where, if a player is available at a spot, they pull the trigger. No one knows.
  17. The Jets ARE NOT drafting a QB. Makes no sense. They have McCown and Bridgewater already. First off, to trade the house for 3 when you know atleast one possibly 2 QBs will be gone? Lets say they get Rosen. First year he is going to learn. McCown was signed to be the bridge QB. If he fails, they are going to have to see what they have in Bridgewater (they only have one year to do it). If he falls of the wagon, THEN you use Rosen. So your going to trade all of that draft capital to move up for a player that probably won't see the field on a do or die year for HC and GM? Bridgewater is their possible future QB. He is the guy who, if McCown falls on his face, comes in to see if he is the real deal. He is only 25, and is years ahead experience wise over Rosen, Allen, or Mayfield. For me, the Jets are comfy at 3 cuz they know the first two picks will 99% be QB's. They then have Barkley fall in their lap. Their future includes Barkley, and maybe Bridgewater.
  18. Gettleman seemed high on Eli when he was given the job. Sounded as if he had a good two years left. He said he just needed help. They are also sparse on overall talent. Considering the Giants were SB favorites last year before it all unraveled, Gettleman seems like someone that is more inclined to find Eli help than his replacement. If they get the best OT in the draft that can start the next 10-12 years, that's a win/win for them now and in the future. So I can see them trading back, even to 12 and 22, and drafting and OL plus another position of need. I think right now Beane is just feeling out both the Browns and Giants. Both are more than one player away, and both need what the Bills have....which are high draft picks.
  19. I get the whole "we finally need a franchise QB" argument. I've been on that bandwagon for years and this year's draft crop has my super excited. But think about it for a sec. All the draft ammunition we have to really take this team to the next level. Imagine if all we had to do is trade our number 22 for a just-turned 29 year old QB who last year in the playoffs won a Super Bowl ring while pilling up 72.6 Comp %, 971 Pass Yards (323 avg), 6 TD's / 1 INT and a rating of 115.7 vs 3 playoff teams, two arguably the best in the league (Falcons, Vikings, And Patriots). And that's not taking into consideration what we have in AJ McCarron. It's not often that we can pull the previous year's SB Winning QB (vs NE no less) to be our QB for possibly 3-5 years. That would leave us 5 picks in the top 100 that we would be able to retool our franchise and turn the corner into being a truly competitive playoff team year in and year out. I'm on board with that.
  20. if it's worth it, yes. But Beane may think if the guy we really want isn't there we can get Foles plus keep all of our picks, that's better for the short term AND long term of the franchise. I would agree with him on that.
  21. Mayfield is the best prospect coming out of this years draft for a number of reasons. PRODUCTION His college production stands out against any of the other prospects, and it's not even close. Mayfield- 3 Years. 70% Comp. %. 12,300 Pass Yds (4100 Avg). 119 TD's. 21 INTs, 895 Rush Yds. 19 Rush TDs. 189.4 QB Rating Darnold- 2 Years. 65% Comp %, 7,229 Pass Yds. 57 TD's (3600 Avg). 22 INTs, 332 Rush Yds, 7 Rush TD's. 153.7 QB Rating Rosen- 3 Years. 61% Comp %. 9,340 Pass Yds (3100 Avg) . 59 TD's. 26 INTs, -154 Rush Yds, 6 Rush TD's 140.7 QB Rating Allen- 3 Years (2 as Starter) 56.2% Comp %, 5066 Pass Yds, (2500 Avg 2 yrs as starter) 44 TD's, 21 INTs, 767 Rush Yards, 12 Rush TDs. 137.7 QB Rating COMPETITION Not only did he have the most production, but he did it against the toughest competition on some of the biggest stages. Below are the stats of each QB vs. the ranking of the team when they played them. Mayfield: 2017 Played vs #2, 3, 8, 10,11 ranked. 5 games: 4-1 Record. 68.5 Comp % for 1847 Yards, 17 TD's / 3 INT's w/ QB Rating 200 Darnold: 2017 Played vs #5, 13, 14, 16, 20, 23. 6 Games: 3-3 Record: 66.8 Comp % for 1702 Yards, 10 TD's / 6 INTs w/ QB Rating 165 Rosen: 2017 Played vs #12, 15 Ranked. 2 Games: 0-2 Record 60.2 Comp % for 514 Yards, 4 TD / 1 INTs w/ QB Rating 127 Allen: 2017 Played 0 Ranked Teams RANKING Mayfield: 3 Years Oklahoma finished 3, 5, 5 ranked in the country Darnold: 2 Years at USC Finished 11, 12 in the country Rosen: 3 Years at UCLA Finished 78, 91, 42 in the country Allen: 2 Years at Wyoming Finished 37, 55th in the country TEAMMATES LOVE HIM It's been reported through various outlets that his teammates love him and will run through a wall for him. Sal C also gave some interesting tidbits at the Senior Bowl, about how he was shaking everyone's hand and getting jacked up with every positive play his team was making IN PRACTICE. We all know what players who aren't loved by their teammates bring to the table despite their vast talent. Examples include Jeff George, Rob Johnson, Jay Cutler, David Klingler. HEIGHT ARGUEMENT IS GARBAGE See Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Tyrod Taylor. Mayfield isn't some 6 foot QB with ordinary talent. He is 6'1 with Extraordinary talent. WIN AT ALL COST ATTITUDE I get it. Mayfield can come across as overconfident at times, and that can rub the opponent the wrong way. With a coach like McD, he will be able to tame that overconfidence and channel it in the right direction. And if he is on your team, why wouldn't you want a guy with that swagger repping your city, who believes if your down by 21 with 2 minutes to play you still have a shot to win. If social media was as prevalent as it is now when Jim Kelly played, he probably would have turned off many Bills fans with his statements about how he didn't want to play in Buffalo, and his constant poking fun of the city. But when we signed him his over confidence as a Buffalo Bill was never a problem, especially for a team who spent the 3 years before his arrival at the bottom of the league. All Mayfield cares about is winning. He'll be the first guy in the facility and last guy out. The chip on his shoulder is as big as Niagara Falls. You can't teach that in a player. He cares deeply about his teammates, and I can promise you he will care deeply about this city and it's fans. Having someone with that type of swag leading your team for 10 plus years will easily be loved by all the fans. It's one thing to put up gaudy stats vs. inferior competition. But when a QB completes 70% of his passes and a 200 QB rating vs. elite college competition year, after year, that has to say something. Sure, it's a team game and you have to gauge offense and defense alike. But numbers don't lie, and what he did last year vs. 5 of the top 11 ranked teams in the country when they played speaks for itself. For Buffalo right now it has to be Darnold or Mayfield. May explain why they aren't moving up to 1 or 2 with all the talk of Allen and Darnold. Could Mayfield be there guy at 4 or 5? Sure some outlets are saying Allen is on the tip of the Bills brass tongue. But until draft night, no one knows. And regardless if we pick him or not, Mayfield will be one of the best of this class.
  22. Based on the Jimmy Johnson Draft chart, the Colts received 2540 of value PLUS a 2nd round pick next year for the 3rd, which is 2200 value. For the Bills to match that, they would have to give up both first rounders, the last 2nd rounder, the first third rounder, plus a 2nd next year (2585 value). That is 5 potential starters for your QB. The Chart shows the Giants 2nd round pick value at 2600. So by the chart the Bills could give up both first rounders and both 2nd rounders (2690) for the 2nd overall. I think there are a few things in play here. First off the Bills may want a guy to BE THERE at 2 or 4 prior to pulling the trigger. Secondly, now that the Colts set the market the 2nd overall pick may be too expensive for their blood SOOOOO... Do I believe the Bills are going to go all in with McCarron and Peterman? No. I believe the Bills might be like "hey, our guy may fall down to 4,5 or even 6. They may have deals set with those teams. They also may have a deal in play with Eagles for Foles, only giving up, say the 22nd pick overall. This gives them the 12th, 53, 56, 65, and 96th pick out of the top 100 (plus keep next years 2nd) to draft players who (from the Tre White and Dion Dawkins picks) may be able to start. I truly believe that Beane felt why trade up to 3rd and give up ALL OF THAT when the guy they really covet may not be there. That's a smart GM. I think this is a fluid situation that involve a couple of scenarios that Beane is preparing for. At the end of the day, if the Bills only give up 22 for Foles and they draft the future with rest of the picks that's not a bad move. Either way, if there is any GM in this team's history I would have faith to make the right call, it's Beane
