  1. I guess you missed my point...Whaley didn't get to pick his coaches. Both Rex and McDermott had more control than he did. He wanted nothing to do with Ryan...that was the Pegula's, and Russ Brandon's' choice. And that hire is what did Whaley in. It was a "splash" move...Ryan set the team back and destroyed the momentum they were building. His influence on the franchise and the roster was too big. McDermott got to choose his own GM. They are on the same page. Ryan and Whaley never were. Rex had more power. It shouldn't have worked that way. Whaley is hardly the first GM who had difficulty in finding a QB. The relative ease with which teams find QBs now did not really exist just a few years ago. Ultimately, none of it matters now, but I don't think those criticizing Whaley fully comprehend what happened during his tenure. Your thumbnail assessment doesn't take much of anything, other than wins=losses into account...there ts a reason that the franchise was so bad for close to two decades. It didn't start with Whaley...
  2. Yeah, but he is still an employee...gotta make the boss happy, or be an ex-employee
  3. He wasn't consistent, because ownership never gave him the authority that he should have had to be an effective GM. Doug Marrone was not his choice as head coach, and then he had the buffoon Rex Ryan foisted upon him. He was put in an "end the drought now" position, without a QB. And, as much as I didn't really like Marrone, they were on the verge of breaking through, I think. Then Marrone quit, the Pegulas hired Rex (Whaley did not want him) and they basically tore apart a very good defense (the strength of the team when Ryan took over),and had to start from scratch. Ryan was the de-facto GM. He was a fool. Whaley didn't get the support from either owner that he should have, in my opinion. His last year, with McDermott, everyone know the coach was calling the shots. There were stories, even at the time of his last drat in 2018, that Whaley wanted to draft Mahomes. People criticizing his public speaking, I think, are mistaking his awkward speaking as poor communication...but I think it was the result of somebody having to say things he knew weren't necessarily true or accurate, to hide the franchise dysfunction. He was doing what a lot of sports people do, trying to sound like he is saying something, without saying anything. It's not a great position to be in. Thank god the owners got things right with the Bills (and, maybe, finally with the Sabres?), but their inexperience with the league really showed through early on. Beane is great with the media, and seems very honest... he sounds like a guy who has all the confidence in the world that ownership is behind him...and why wouldn't they be. You just can't understate the relationship between the owner, GM and head coach being on the same page. Whaley never had that luxury. I really hope he gets the job, because I am really curious as to how he will do with good ownership. If he is terrible, at least it won't be on the Bills dime.
  4. Jake Fromm is available...he got a few starts in New Jersey last season...he looked awful, granted.
  5. I wonder if she'll go to the prom with me...today when I passed her in the hall, between social studies class and chemistry, she kinda glanced my way, but didn't make direct eye contact.. i just don't know what to make of it...does she like me? No, why would she? I mean I'm cool and all, and I would treat her like the goddess she deserves to be treated as...but she doesn't know that... how could she?
  6. Lotulelei and Jordan Phillips are very good friends, and played great together in Phillips one season in Buffalo. Perhaps they can reach that level again this year? I realize that Star has had some availability issues, but I do think the defense was better when he was in the lineup. This just seems like one of those dead horses that fans always seem to have on hand... if McDermott/Beane feel like his time should come to an end in Buffalo, they will make it happen. Otherwise, why sweat it?
  7. Beane might have to break into the Beasley bucks!
  8. Yeah. All the back and forth stuff on twitter probably didn't help. I think he took everything very personally. When he commented publicly, about Bills fans "supposedly the best in the leauge" booing him early in the season, it felt like things changed. I was at some of those early games, and I think, by and large, the fans loved Beasley...if people were booing him, it wasn't a large contingent. But, the ego can be fragile...the voice of small handful of critics was much louder, for him, than the thousands of supportive voices. Too bad...great player.
  9. That's what I am thinking...he may find out that nobody is going to offer him a lot more than what the Bills would. He may have lost some speed...hard to tell really. His opportunities weren't as plentiful week in week out in 2021. Guy still had great hands...clutch 3rd down receiver. That isn't something that is so easy to replace.
  10. Happy St Patrick's Day all!
  11. He was terrible
  12. Receivers with great hands, should always make sense. I'd take him back at the right price. Of course, we are a long way away from having the 2022 roster set, but to me, Beasley still has some value to the Bills, as it stands now.
  13. That is a tough call....I am on record (I know everyone is keeping track) as saying that the Dick Jauron years were my least favorite years of Bills football..not necessarily their worst, but I hated Jauron as head coach. Boring, scared football... I knew Rex was an awful hire, and was not happy when they hired him...but I will admit, I fell for the hype just a little that first year... so glad we are past all that!
  14. He's not a bad blocker... his hands have improved...he was progressing nicely, until Arians took over.
  15. Nothing to get hung about
  16. He may be the least talented of the three on the field, but his commercials blow Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes out of the water...I have grown to loathe both of them...
  17. It seems that people who think this is a terrible signing are under the impression that the Bills intend to use McKissic as their #1 running back...forgetting that their preference has always been to have two guys that they could use interchangeably...they tried that for 2 years, before pretty much giving up on Moss late last season... McKissic is just taking over the roll that Moss was supposed to play, but he just happens to be an exceptional receiver out of the backfield, with some speed. And, he is coming pretty cheap. I think people are looking at his career rushing stats, thinking that he must be terrible, because he only has 950 yards in 7 years...ignoring what he did as a receiver, and the fact that he barely played his first four seasons. Personally, I think this is a really great signing.
  18. Just seeing the Shula name associated with the Bills is kind of unsettling for some of us old-timers...
  19. I understand why people don't like Landry (I once got into an argument with his mother on FB, when I referred to him as a "dirty" player), but the guy is talented. Assuming he has recovered from his 2021 injuries, he would be a nice add for our offense.
  20. Obviously, they can't sign every player that they are rumored to be interested in...but I will actually be surprised if they don't make some sort of "big" acquisition. Every year we hear about teams being up against the cap, and every year we wonder how teams that are supposed to be so cap strapped, manage to sign big handfuls of free agents. I know Beane/McDermott will play it smart, and responsibly, but they will find a way to make cap space. Extend/re-work contracts for guys who you expect to be around another 3 or 4 years...DIggs, Poyer, Morse...Josh? They all want to get paid, but they all want to win too. Sure, this kind of cap management can lead to headaches down the road, but the Bills "window", while not closed, is not as open as it used to be. The AFC West could easily have 3 or 4 teams in the playoffs...if DeShaun Watson ends up in Pittsburgh or with the Jets (it's a rumor) the field only gets stronger....the Bills have to build for a run in 2022. Allen will keep them relevant for the next decade, but they may never have a chance to have as strong a roster....I expect a bold move or two...Gronk and Hunter? Gronk and Jones?

  22. Tibs...you have been hanging out with the PPP dregs for years, you can't be too shocked.
