  1. You can bet, when they feel they (the Sabres) are ready to take the next step in their rebuild, the roster will be filled out with vets. They will likely being dealing some of their young talent for vetran leaders...they aren't there yet.
  2. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12107463/bill-polian-informs-buffalo-bills-remain-espn-analyst-commentator
  3. Mike Wilbon wrote a nice piece for ESPN Chicago, imploring the Bears to do everything they can to add Polian to their front office... calls him the "best team builder in the NFL over the last 30 years" http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/12095833/if-chicago-bears-serious-winning-their-first-call-bill-polian
  4. I want in on that bet!
  5. I hear you Mr. WEO, Kubiak would be an improvement over Marrone... and I don't love the idea of Schwartz as HC either. However, unless Kubiak can retain Schwartz as his DC, I think we lose more with losing Schwartz than we gain with Kubiak.
  6. If we are going with under-achieving retreads, I would just assume go with Schwartz.
  7. Eh...I know what you are saying, but I think that is silly. They do it all the time...doesn't happen in the NFL so much, but in other sports you see guys whose teams are eliminated from the playoffs come in as analysts for the remainder of the playoffs. Its' only sports...the reason for the delay is not the "conflict of interest", but rather, the fact that Polian wants to wait until the Hall of Fame vote takes place.
  8. If you believe anything that you read about the coaching carousel, Rex will have a few offers to be a head coach. Honestly, not sure that he needs to step back and be a DC to beef up his resume at this point. For whatever reason, it seems, most in the NFL think pretty highly of Rex Ryan. If he (or Marrone) was smart, he would be clamoring for the Falcons job.
  9. Take it for what it is worth, but last night Paul Hamilton was really ripping on Doug Marrone (said he was "dumb, thin-skinned, self absorbed and stubborn") on GR55. A caller mentioned the Mike Williams situation, and Hamilton did defend Marrone a bit, saying that Williams just did not put in the work that the other receivers did.
  10. Rex Ryan will be a head coach...he will not be the Bills, or any other teams, defensive coordinator.
  11. Was funny, last night, on their Bills "special", Paul Hamilton (I know, I know) sounded like he had started celebrating New Years Eve early...he said, and I quote that Marrone was "dumb, thin skinned, and full of himself". I do think the Buffalo media (or moreover GR55) is fairly negative most of the time...but it says little about Marrone if he couldn't handle what those bozos have to say.
  12. I think that the fact that Polian isn't coming on board until the end of January/early February only makes it more likely that Whaley is staying. They can't wait 4 or 5 weeks to start their coaching search.
  13. Now hearing that Marrone wanted confirmation from the Pegulas about a "football operations" guy being brought in, and wanted to know who it was...Pegulas did not want to divulge that info to Marrone. Kind of odd to think that Marrone wouldn't want to stay, if Polian became involved with the franchise. Polian already on record as liking the job that Marrone did in Buffalo, and both are Brooklyn guys. To me, it sounds more like Marrone saw it as a "no-brainer" to take the 4milliion dollars and run... gotta think he already had feelers out to see if the Jets were interested in him.
  14. I can't help but think that Whaley would have been fired by now, if the Pegulas were leaning that way. If Polian isn't on board until late January as has been reported, the GM, and perhaps Russ, would have to be looking for the new head coach. They can't wait until late January or February, to start looking for a new head coach. I think Whaley sticks around...
  15. Not at all advocating Scwartz as head coach, but I would bet his prescence on the Bills coaching staff, after 5 seasons in the NFC North, had as much to do with that (along with a very talented defense) as anything Marrone did.
  16. This all seems to be coming from Schefter. Bulldog, during his interview with John Wawrow, pointed out that Marrone and Schefter share the same agent...interesting, huh?
  17. If Peyton gets fired, imo, he will land another head-coaching job pretty quickly...could actually see him in Oakland. No way he is Doug Marrones OC...even if they worked together before.
  18. Another year older, another year cooler!
  19. Mike McCarthy seemed to have the same issue this past Sunday!
  20. I have watched a few games this season with a friend of a friend who was once a college QB... I know those aren't necessarily the greatest credentials, but he seems to know a fair amount about what he (we) are watching...he is really into watching game film... During the last Miami game, people were getting pretty down on Orton. The guy, not really a Bills fan, seems to think we may have an over-inflated sense of how good the Bills receiving corp really is...he mentioned it a few times this season...just gave me a moment of pause...
  21. Yeah, I don't see that happening....and I couldn't really blame Hughes. Sure, he kind of "owes" the Bills a little for "discovering"" him, or giving him a chance to shine, but we all know, that kind of loyalty rarely exists in the business of sports any more. The Bills would get rid of him when it is best for them, so it goes both ways. Also, I have kind of had the sense all season, as great as Hughes has been, he and Marrone don't necessarily see eye to eye on everything...I am assuming Marrone will be back. That said, I hope it works out, and he is in a Bills uniform for a few more years.
  22. I hear that...I had to unlike ESPN Fantasy Football on Facebook this morning, because I was getting bombarded with their "championship" advice. How do you like fantasy hockey? I tried it, and basketball, a few years ago...I did so-so in basketball, but bombed in hockey... I liked the idea of it, but I guess I don't know the whole NHL well enough to construct a team...I really only watch the Sabres during the regular season, and then follow the playoffs as much as I can...I wish I liked baseball, because that sport is really ideal for fantasy, probably more than football...but I just don't follow baseball at all anymore... it is all NFL for me, with NHL and NBA (in that order) far behind.
  23. I don't know...maybe my memories of that game are hazy, but I remember (not discounting Watts pick-six, and all around great game) there being a lot "plays left on the field" during that particular game...I think that is why they made the switch at QB. That game, to me, was the most "winnable" of our losses this season...the Texans defense is good, granted, but we had a lot of open receivers that day...our offense made their defense look better than it actually played that day. But, it happens I suppose...pretty much every team has a game they let get away from them every year...a "bad" loss. The Bills just happen to have had three of them this year.
  24. Yup...the Miami and KC losses were bad, but the Houston game was every bit as winnable (if not more so) and every bit as costly.
