QB guru George Whitfield's take on EJ
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whoa...not really sure what point you are trying to make...I wasn't laying blame on "EJ alone" for the Texans loss at all...just countering the argument that somebody was making that he was awful last season...by my count, the Texans game was his only really horrible game, and Watt had a bit to do with that. Yes, the line play was awful, receivers didn't have a great day... but in the end, there were plays that EJ could have made, but didn't...in my estimation, it was because he was a little shell-shocked by the Texans D/Watt. His accuracy (his biggest issue) was very off that game. I think we are making the same point... -

Hind-sight is always 20-20. At least usually! A GM insisting that certain players play, over the coaches wishes, can lead to a lot of problems down the road. The day that game was played, very few knew that Orton was planning to retire in 24 hours, and certainly, nobody knew that Marrone was going to bolt. We bash Marrone a lot here (and with good reason mind you) but he did a credible job, if nothing else, of "changing the culture" with this team. At that point in time, Whaley was letting his coach manage the game-day roster, as was his job. It is the way it should be. -

He was really poor, mostly, against the Texans. JJ Watt had him spooked...the only way he will learn to handle that, is by experience. I actually think a lot of his woes with inaccuracy are the product of not being sure of himself...throwing not to get intercepted, rather than to complete a pass. He needs to see more defenses. I think Eric Woods kind of said the same thing about the O-line...I think he said on the offensive side of things, they had "too many voices in their heads". Hopefully, Rex can manage this kind of thing better, because he has a similar number of coaches...Lee, Palmer and Roman...sounds like Rex has the good sense to stay out of the offense. -

Funny, I just listened to that interview earlier today...I am behind EJ and all, but that guy (Whitfield) said a whole lot of nothing, to my ears. I know he was trying to be complimentary toward EJ, but it came off as kind of hollow...like supporting a client. -
I am a big fan of Whaley. For me, Whaley over Marrone was/is a no-brainer. However, I am still not 100% sure how all this is going to pan out for Whaley...still too early to tell. Marrone leaving, and then Polian snubbing the Bills, kind of left the Pegulas in an awkward position I am inclined to think that they would have kept Whaley regardless, but you never know. The fact that the coach has to report to the owners, as opposed to the GM could turn out to be an issue too... not saying it will definitely, but we just have words now...the fact that there still seems to be the notion that the Pegulas want to hire a "football czar" type, even after the coaching hire, tells me they are still not completely sure if they have the front-office set up they want. They also want that czar to have input on draft/fa activity...that is telling me that the GM's performance is still under some scrutiny with the new owners. The coach is a huge personality and seems to speak almost as if he is the GM at times...this could cause friction down the road, or it could be a great sign that everyone is simpatico... we just don't know yet. Let's get through the draft, and free agency period first... we will have a clearer view of things, once the team, with the new owner/coach/old GM face their first adversity.

I have only really heard Ruben Brown as a guest on shows, but I understand he has (or had) a radio show on in Buffalo at one time...is he any good, does anyone know? I know he still resides in WNY. I recall he is normally pretty positive about the Bills...which is not to say a good host has to be positive all the time...but the relentless negativity can be a little overwhelming at times.

Not a huge game changer, but glad to see that Kevin Garnett will end his career back in Minnesota. Miami gets both of the Dragic brothers? Interesting...

I would take McCoy or Cousins as a 2nd or 3rd QB. -
Goes without saying...most of those are awful.

Trent Richardson story getting messy in Indy
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy may be a bust, but unless there is more to this story, the Colts come off looking like a-holes in this situation. This is a great illustration of why we, as fans, should never get pissed off at players when they go after money. -

Oh yeah...almost forgot about that....interestingly, I hated the goat--head logo too...until they changed to the slug...than I missed the goat head....now, I kinda remember it fondly...I have no such fondness for the slug...the one slug-themed t-shirt I had is now a rag I use for wiping moisture off my car window in the morning. -

It may not be a pc thing...but I think the Redskins have one of the, if not the, best looking uniform in all of sports. Love that logo, love the team colors. I also happen to think the Bills logo is pretty sweet too...maybe I am biased! -

I am loving this show...the use of the Bobby Bare song cements the deal for me. Don't want to give up too much until everyone is on board! -
I don't even mind the slow-pace...it is just the inconsistency of the writing, and too much time spent on characters that we don't really care about...

Maybe letting your displeasure being known to the Pegulas will help. Sure, S & B are not, technically their employees...but I would think they have a lot of clout...particularly as it pertains to the post game show...which I agree, is pretty terrible. I don't even hate S&B, but they do not seem to have any innate interest in discussing the actual game we have just spent the afternoon watching. They can be kind of a buzz-kill. I don't mind Sal, but I would like a fresh voice on that post-game show.

Does anybody really enjoy this show? I know, I watch it every week, and there are always a few times where I find myself checking the clock to see how much time is left...I like it, but I wish it was so much better than it is. In my estimation, there have really only been about 3 or 4 really great episodes...but they have mastered the art of keeping you hooked, thinking "okay, that wasn't that great, but wait til next week!!!"

Palin kind of made SNL relevant again, in some round-about way...and she helped make Tina Fey a household name. At this point, her celebrity is all she's really got. And yes, definitely!
