Those may or may not be leaks from the candidates or their agents, or, perhaps, even just "journalists" speculating...we see a lot of that go on with sports...but I will bet, true or not, that isn't coming from the Bills front office. I happen to know somebody who works at the front office...lower level. This person always had lots of inside info...not now. I suspect, outside of the owners, the interviewees, Whaley and possibly Brandon, nobody what is being discussed in these interviews, or at least not the Bills outlook on the interviews.

If they run things the way they have run the Sabres, yes... they run a tight ship. Not a lot of loose lips!

Please no more Mr. Nice Guys, get me a boisterous HC
Buftex replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like good, solid decision making... as great as Buddy and Ditka may have been, I think it is a bit criminal that the Bears only went to/won a single Super Bowl with that squad...they were very talented, but, in my opinion not well coached...especially on offense. -
I get that most everyone has come to the conclusion that Manuel is a bust... but with the horror stories that continue to come out about how dysfunctional the offensive coaching was on this team under Doug Marrone, I can't help but think that played some role in Manuels' struggles. Everyone says they knew, when they drafted EJ, they knew he was a "project", but it doesn't sound like anyone (or at least not the boss) had a clue as to how to proceed with the project. Instead of using Manuels' natural abilities to let him enjoy some success, and gradually round out his game, they harnessed him by taking away his greatest asset (throwing on the run), and trying to turn him into a robot, programmed to run out of bounds and to throw the ball away at the first sign of trouble. Manuel still has to improve his accuracy, and yeah, he does have to become a better pocket passer, to become a legit NFL starter. I am still not convinced that he can't do those things. It sounds as though Marrones biggest fear was turning the ball over, and it was drummed into the head of his young QB. I often thought EJ, particularly on the intermediate routes that require accuracy and a certain degree of arm strength, was throwing the ball not to get intercepted, rather than throwing the ball to complete the pass...it is kind of an extension of a head coach who coaches not to lose, rather than to win. I don't have any issue with the Bills, or Whaley, emphasizing that their new head coach being open to EJ Manuel as their starting QB. It may scare a potential coaching candidate or two off, but do we really want somebody who would be so deterred anyways? EJ may not, ultimately, be the answer, but at least in the short term, he may be the best answer....

Sammy Watkins named finalist for NFL Rookie of the Year
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The will give Kiko rookie of the year this year! -
Not that it is quite the same, but it surprised me a little, especially since I hadn't heard it. Recently, on HBO Real Sports they were doing a story (as they seem to do every other month) about the head trauma issue in football... they showed the NFL replay office on a Sunday afternoon during a football...there were a number of ladies who were monitoring replays.

Ex Syracuse assistant coach rips Marrone.
Buftex replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like it...though I went with a slightly more contemporary comparison...he thinks he's Bill Parcells, and he isn't even Tony Sparano! -
The Two Faces of Doug Marrone
Buftex replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always kind of assumed that Polian's admiration for Marrone was based, in part, simply from the fact that are both sort of New York football "tough guys"..as I recall Polian had a little reputation back in the 90's for being a little tough on Bills front office people as well...so that kind of thing wouldn't have necessarily scared him off on Marrone. And since they both kind of came up in the sport, via New York City (or really Brooklyn & the Bronx), while they may not know eachother overly well on a personal basis (I don't know that for a fact), I assume they know a lot of the same people... to me, Marrone comes off as a kind of Parcells wannabe, some days, but without any rings to warrant the same kind of respect as Parcells. -

Has it been mentioned yet that this is already being discussed in another thread? -
That is the only way this makes sense... unless?

How do you feel right now if you are Sammy Watkins?
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be fair to Marrone, we have no idea what is really true...though it is hard not to draw conclusions. -

Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is it possible Marrone saw to it that Sammy didn't break the 1,000 yard mark in that final game, just to make Whaley look bad? -
Did the unthinkable this week ....

any head coaching candidates with a history with Schwartz?
Buftex replied to Drreef2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed K-Dog... there doesn't seem to be anyone the Bills are not interested in. -

Buftex replied to Drreef2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, a little surprised about the interest in defensive guys, but read that as, perhaps, the Pegulas thinking Schwartz would be a pain in the ass to deal with if he doesn't get the HC job.... he does seem a little emotional and tightly wound... hoping that isn't the case, and my first scenario (above) turns out the reality. -

Buftex replied to Drreef2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You think? My pea-brain can't keep up with all the moving parts, but I was thinking there was still a pretty good chance the Pegulas intend on keeping him iun the fold. I thought I heard that the Bills denied the Redskins the an interview for their DC position. I was thinking that if Schwartz didn't get the Bills HC job, they would likely hire an offensive oriented coach, and offer Schwartz an "defensive coordinator/assistant head coach" title with a lucrative extension. I have yet to see anybody interested in Schwartz for a HC job. With the defensive talent the Bills have, Schwartz could do far worse. Nobody seems to be beating down his door for a promotion right now. Why not re-build your resume with a top 5 defense for a few years? -

None that I know...but I am doubting that Schwartz is thrilled that the Pegulas are requesting permission to interview Teryl Austin. -
Here's wishing Marone is watching NFL on TV this year
Buftex replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dunno...I think I would enjoy seeing him flail with the Jets a little more. -
I agree with you Enemarty. I don't hate everything Sullivan has to say, always...but I do feel like he could have waited a week or two to see how this thing turns out, before, typically, pulling the fire alarm. Everything he says could turn out to be true, or he could be completely off the mark. I guarantee though, the Bills will have another head coach, and we will all have our hopes up by September, even if the likes of Sullivan, Gleason, Simon, White and Schoop try their hardest to drag us down. Those are the guys I find to be the most consistent buzz killers. Though I am not shedding any tears over Marrone's departure (I was keeping an open mind on him after year one, but was decidedly not a fan as this season wore on), I do agree, to a point, with Marrones' assessment that the local Buffalo media is insanely negative. And I realize to, as everyone has mentioned, Marrone and his thin skin won't hold up well in New Jersey....but that area still has only 24 hours in a day, and so many more things to be pissed off about...at least more than the second rate NFL team in the area..maybe the 5th or 6th most popular of the 9 pro sports teams in the area. I was looking forward to this past season as much as any as I had in a long, long time...I can tell you, the GR guys (who I don't even necessarily dislike) had me feeling like this season was lost from week one in training camp. I know it isn't their job to sell me on the Bills, or to gloss over their warts...but, Christ, they just dwell on stuff and blow every tiny thing out of proportion. I think most coaches wouldn't pay a hell a lot of attention, but for whatever reason, Marrone did. I just stopped listening to them every day, a few weeks into training camp. Howard & Jeremy were just awful to listen to... and it has been pretty much the same with the Buffalo News. I have a feeling Jerry just couldn't wait to quote himself for this column...so maybe that is the reason for his rush to judgment on the new ownership.

Head Coach candidate: Bill Callahan
Buftex replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we are considering Callahan, might as well throw Tom Cable's name into the hat. -
They should think about taking OJ's name down, only after they find a name to slap on the wall of the Head Coachs' office. Foward, not backwards...

What happened in Detroit for Schwartz? Systemic or unique?
Buftex replied to NickelCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe the constant criticism of Schwartz Lions teams was that they were very undisciplined, and prone to bone-head mistakes. They rarely lived up to expectations. Would hate to lose him as DC, but as HC I am not so thrilled. He had a lot of time in Detroit to work things out, and they only got worse. I think as a DC he can afford to play with his heart on his sleeve..not as HC. -
Does Terry Pegula Have A Clear Strategic Plan?
Buftex replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No offense to the OP, cuz I know Coach Tuesday is solid, but these kind of posts make coming here kind of dreary...no wonder Marrone up and left!
