The Topics We're Talking about Show How Strong the Roster Is
eball replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Miss them? Nah. I sure enjoy laughing about them now though. -
I haven't read anything about Star. I'm bummed about Harry and hope Joe is off on this one, or that we'll see something else when the pads go on.

Not good news for Horrible Harry (from Joe B. at The Athletic) : One of the most up-in-the-air roster decisions will be all along the defensive line, and defensive tackle could be the most difficult choice of them all. Vernon Butler, Harrison Phillips and Justin Zimmer will all need to play their way onto the roster in 2021, and there may not be enough room for all three of them when they decide on the final roster. As it’s been for much of camp, Zimmer has looked like the superior player between him and Phillips. That was especially true on Monday, as Zimmer showed his ability to work up the field and get pressure on the quarterback. He whipped through offensive lineman Jordan Devey during one-on-one drills and provided some good pressure during his team drill opportunities as well. Although Phillips is more of a one-technique in role only, his best contribution since joining the team has been as an interior pass rusher. Phillips hasn’t really found his way in that area to this point in camp, often struggling to disengage from the block and fighting his way into the backfield. He hasn’t looked like the same player who started the 2019 season well before his torn ACL. The game is also changing and getting smaller and more athletic all along the defensive line, and it makes you wonder if the Bills could look to trade Phillips to a team in need of some defensive line depth at some point. The coaching staff also loves Zimmer, and there is a deep respect for Zimmer’s work ethic inside the locker room. As of now, I’d say Zimmer is ahead in the chase for a spot on the 53. ----- Zimmer has been one of the guys I said to look out for...he just works his tail off and has a lot of physical ability. It would not surprise me to see him make this team and play meaningful snaps.

You do realize, I hope, that what you typed is the exact opposite of what Daboll says about Davis. Daboll: Gabe Davis is a pro. He’ll continue to get better and better. Can play all the spots. #Bills — Chris Brown (@ChrisBrownBills) August 2, 2021 Carry on.

Around the League Training Camp Thread

I’m really curious about this statement. KC was miles ahead of Buffalo when McD and Beane were hired. Miles. If they are ahead of them now, it’s by feet or inches. -
Who's our next joique bell for RB's this off season
eball replied to Sugar High JA17's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’ll just say, the OP isn’t off to a great start on this board. Maybe if we cut him he’ll find another board in 3 or 4 years and become an average poster. -
Pretty much this. I don’t know who ESPN’s “well placed source” is for the news that broke over the weekend but if the Pegulas threatened the state with leaving Buffalo I’d be shocked. And as far as Austin goes, that’s simply a comment about a city who wants a team, not a “threat” the Bills will move there. NYS officials know they need to keep the Bills in Buffalo. I hate leaks like this but some a$$hat wanted to make him or herself more important. This stuff will take care of itself; I’m on to Pittsburgh.

Scott, you can look up the stats yourself. These are two players who have, over the past five seasons, produced remarkably similar performance. At one time Houston was a feared pass rusher. Now he’s simply a good solid veteran. I didn’t say Baltimore made a bad signing; I said I don’t see why Beane would think the Bills needed to sign him and cut Addison.

Jordan Poyer says golf saved his life
eball replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very happy Poyer got his life back on track. For a professional athlete I’m not at all surprised to see him get his handicap down that quickly. Golf is all about muscle memory and focus. Think too much and you’re doomed. An athlete conditioned to be disciplined can handle that. -
You keep repeating this but I guarantee you that’s not how Beane and McD look at it. Yes, the pieces are in place to be a legitimate Super Bowl team this season, but crazy things happen. The Bills as an organization are now “playoffs or bust — every year.” Lots of things need to happen to win a Super Bowl but I’m not wringing my hands over Beane not signing Houston and going with what he’s got instead. Addison had too many snaps last season and it limited his effectiveness — that’s a fact. He is also a “great locker room presence for our young guys” and a superb individual. With less work he is likely to be as productive as Houston. I love what Beane did for the DL this offseason. I also think Baltimore is a top 5 organization in the league and this is a good signing for them.

Mr. Monday Night-Josh Allen
eball replied to Sammy Watkins' Rib's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really small sample size, but the two games you mention from last year (SF and NE***) were absolute gems by Allen. -

Can't believe I'm saying this but Brady* is a tough SOB. Go look up the replay of Nate Clements' hit on him. The dude bounced right up and was clapping. -

I can’t believe I’m going to be in Buffalo this weekend and won’t be able to go! Playing in a member-guest tourney at Crag Burn. -

Zach Wilson no show at Jets' camp UPDATE: SIGNED
eball replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love to pile on the Jests as much as anyone but who thinks this is a big deal? There's probably some offset language or some other b.s. Wilson's agent is insisting be adjusted, but losing a day or two of reps isn't going to make or break this kid's rookie season. Simply being a Jet will ruin this kid's season, if not career. -

He was playing hurt. I don’t have a dog in the fight but I’ll give him a chance to see how he plays when healthy.
