Another thread it’s fun to come back and revisit. This Super Bowl can be remembered as “The Mahomes Meltdown” — running backwards, making desperation heaves...and he STILL had Romo licking his balls. So much for “Mahomes is Mahomes because you’re never out of it.” Everyone watching that game knew it was over in the 3rd quarter. For someone talked about as the GOAT as regularly as Mahomes is, tell me the last time a “great” QB had a worse performance on the biggest stage of all.

All I ever hoped for was that Josh Allen would become a QB for the Bills who is annually in the “top 5” discussion. We’re there. Enjoy the ride.

You know what I heard about Kordell Stewart...

Thanks for posting that. -
I use the comparison because these are both 1st round QBs taken in the same year who have both worked with the same trainer. One could argue Sam had the better scenario by far his first year, yet look where we are after year 3. I completely understand where you're coming from but I think my assessment is just as likely to be accurate.

The lack of apparent development in three NFL seasons. Sam and Josh are by all accounts really good friends, and they both work with Jordan Palmer. Sam was a "chosen one" at the QB position, playing at USC and lauded as "the next best thing" as a freshman. It came easy to him, and I don't get the impression he is putting in the necessary work. It's really a study in contrast between a guy who has had to fight for everything (Josh) and one who has had a lot handed to him (Sam). Doesn't make him a bad guy, but how many uber-talented athletes never reach greatness because they just don't have the necessary drive? That's what I see in Sam. Do I know this for certain? Of course not, but it is my instinct.

One game? Look, we know why Gruden loves him. Playing the scout QB each week he gives the defense loads of confidence heading into Sunday’s game.

I’m tired of this crap. Call me a homer, whatever. Watch what Josh does over the next few years, and realize the difference between what Mahomes walked into and what Josh has developed. Mahomes is great, on a path to be a 1st ballot HOFer. Josh will be right there with him — he just got a late start.

Super Bowl Thread: KC at Tampa Bay
eball replied to Artem Lipatov's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree 100%. I also have come to grips with the fact that Brady is one of the all-time competitors and respect him for that. Does he push the boundaries of fair play with crap like the deflated balls and knowing the Pats*** organization is/was cheating? Sure. But the dude plays the game as well as or better than anyone has at the most crucial moments. It’s so funny. The divorce of Brady and Belichick has actually made me respect each more. And I now hate the Chefs. -
Josh Allen is THAT stinking good.

1-3 in the playoffs (and 3 pts against a pretty mediocre Bills' D) says otherwise, unless they get that 2000 defense back.

What a f***ing great interview. Love this guy, love the team. This year was just a stepping stone... Edit: I'm referring to the 15-minute interview on PFT with Simms and whatshisname...

I'd rather have Edmunds playing EDGE.

Yeah, I think you are essentially agreeing with me. 2019 was likely as good as it will ever get with Lamar -- at least under Greg Roman. Good enough to win a lot of regular season games against average (or worse) defenses, but probably not good enough to win a Super Bowl.
-
I think the conversation is still a relevant one. No, I’m not saying Lamar is “done” but we may have already witnessed his ceiling. He was demonstrably worse as a passer this season — TD % went from 9.0 to 6.9 and INT % went from 1.5 to 2.4 in 25 fewer overall attempts. Completion % dropped 1.7. Yards/attempt dropped by 0.7. Sacks increased by 6. “But what about his rushing” you might ask. 17 fewer rushes, same number of TDs (7) but 15 fewer 1st downs and yards/rush dropped from 6.9 to 6.3. 2019 Lamar was better in nearly every sense of the word than 2020 Lamar. So where is the development? Baltimore can definitely win with Lamar, we’ve seen that. He’s 30-7 as a starter in the regular season. But unless there is additional development in the passing game they are a team limited by their QB.

Bills TE Lee Smith is contemplating retirement
eball replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
🙄 oh please. Smith did what he was supposed to do (block) and also managed to snag several big receptions. Knox was supposed to have a “breakout” year and was nothing special. In this offense I’d rather have Smith in the game because he’s reliable. -
Marty Shottenheimer placed in Hospice care
eball replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marty had quite the record as a head coach. Double digit wins in 11 of his 20 full seasons. Only two losing records. Truly a class individual and excellent football coach. Lost two truly heartbreaking AFC championship games. Very saddened to hear this news. -

Bills TE Lee Smith is contemplating retirement
eball replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’d suggest you visit your optometrist. I was a big time Knox supporter but at this point I’m done. Blocking is non-existent and he doesn’t create the mismatches one would expect in the passing game. The Bills need a total makeover at the position. -

Lee Smith was 5x more valuable than Dawson Knox for the Bills this season. -
