WHy? If they were able to do it this year with better schemes and better coaching, why wouldn't they be able to do it again next year. They have the draft ammunition and the cap space.

Just like there is no second Montana or a Marino or a Kelly, there is no second Brady....Brady is the only Brady. It is too early to know if Mahommes will even have success in the NFL. NFL is a team game....Ask Marino...

The reason they could have done well at Jets (even though they finished 6-10 and fired) is that they had the right personnel to run their scheme. On the BIlls, they had a defense that was ranked 4th but played exclusively 4-3. They tinkered that defense, sent Kiko to Philadelphia and put Preston Brown instead. Just like how average players don't adapt well to a new scheme, average coaches have no ability to adapt their schemes to the personnel.

I guess their standards of excellence are higher than just mediocrity

McDermott has a critical off season where he has to make tough calls on : - Coaching Staff - QB - Retaining Mathews, Benjamin, Clay on Offense (and now may be Incognito) - Retaining Brown, Williams on Defense And he has to get all of them right as the margin of error is pretty slim. Alex Smith will go to Denver. That is a match for both of them. Denver has a playoff-ready defense and needs a steady hand to get the ball to Sanders. Smith will be happy to go there.

The gap between the good to above-average teams is quite laser thin in the NFL. On any given Sunday any of these teams can beat each other up...A few balls bounces this way or the other way, a few key injuries is all the difference to tilt the game one way or the other.. Besides Pittsburgh and New England, the field is wide open in the AFC and every one of the remaining 14 teams have a chance at the wild card spots. The Bills will be one of them. What worked for the Bills - Focus, Discipline and the ball bouncing their way a few times. They had the determination to will themselves to win the games they had a chance at winning and competing in those that they were not given a chance (the final scores may not reflect it).

THat is a chicken and egg thing. Is TT bad because of Rico or is Rico's schemes are showing up as bad because TT cannot execute. I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

We have about 38M in cap and have a significant number of needs at DT, LB, WR, OL. How do you pay the richest NFL contract inside your salary cap. And Cousins needs a pretty good OC...who is going be there?

Wouldn't that be an indictment on the Offensive Coaching Staff ?? Alex Smith is NOT coming to Buffalo on a 1-year deal. I surely can see a Vet savvy team like the Broncos picking him up at at least $10M a year for 3-4 years. That solidifies their playoff path. Arizona might go the same route by signing him. There will be plenty of suitors for Alex Smith in this QB Deprived league. Even TT will have a suitor. The team that is laughing all the way to the bank in the Off Season is the 49ers...They got their franchise QB for a 2nd round.
