9/11 - where were you on the day that changed history?
Metal Man replied to RobbRiddick's topic in Off the Wall
I was at work listening to Howard Stern on the radio at my desk. I remember he was telling a story about possibly having a chance to hook up with Pam Anderson and one of his staff interrupted about a plane hitting the world trade. They didn't think much of it at first thinking it was just a small accident so he continued with his story. However shortly after someone else came into the studio and mentioned being able to see smoke. At this point I mentioned it to my cube neighbor, (who on a side not happened to be Tim Russert's sister), and she brought up CNN which already had a photo of the first plane hitting on the main page. I went back to the radio and believe it or not Howard actually did a really good job of covering all the developments until well past his usual sign off time of 10 or 11am. I don't think much work got done that day though I didn't leave early. Watched a lot of the coverage when I got home and recall just a strange mix of emotions ranging from anger, fear, and patriotism. -
The Difference Between Being Waived and Being Released

That's true. But depending on what you were fired for your eligibility for unemployment benefits could be affected so there is at least some distinction. 😁 -
The Difference Between Being Waived and Being Released

Thanks. New album out tomorrow. Early reviews are promising. -
This is really interesting and as anecdotal support I can confirm the theory from personal experience. Whenever I go to our minor league baseball stadium and they are at or above half capacity the concession lines are out of control so there have been plenty of times where I walk up for something and head right back to my seat after seeing the lines. Now half full shouldn't cause a logjam like that and they need to improve their system somehow but I can see an argument that based on space there is only so much throughput a concession outfit can handle.

Saw an interesting take on the stadium capacity discussion on the news the other night. Basically the guy was saying that when you start to add extra seating capacity you build up which significantly raises the cost with more structural support needed. However since those are the nose bleed seats you are adding a lot of construction cost for extra capacity at the cheapest seat sales price. Makes sense to me then that above the ~60k range is where they decided the extra cost wasn't worth the extra seat revenue.

I agree and that strategy makes perfect sense. It is just hard for me to envision some of the top guys taking a seat in a meaningful game if they are good enough to go but not 100%.

For sure. I love how Sanderson has a progress bar on his website for his projects. It is a nice change up from Rothfuss getting annoyed anytime someone asks him about the last Kingkiller book or the BS that Martin keeps saying about Winds of Winter being right around the corner for the last 5 years.

Goodkind is definitely a pretentious $%#! from everything I have ever read about him and he definitely gets very political heavy in some of the later Sword of Truth novels. I get why he turns a lot of people off. Also even though most fantasy is derivative at some level the similarities to Wheel of Time are pretty evident. All that being said though the first 3 or 4 books of the Sword of Truth series are highly entertaining. I have heard nothing but good things about Stormlight Archive and even more great things about Kingkiller Chronicles. However I have promised myself to never start a series again that isn't finished after waiting 20 years to get the ending of Wheel of Time and more than likely being burned by Song of Ice and Fire. 😀

It kind of sounded like that but what I think he meant was some starters will only play a little bit and some will play into some of the second half.

The Bills needing extra WRs based on the offense they run makes sense and the arguments above about how banged up the WRs were in the AFC championship game are valid. However I think if we end up in the AFC championship game again with a banged up Diggs, Beasley and Sanders those guys are still going to be the ones who play regardless of the depth behind them. The only way the #6 and #7 WRs on this roster would see significant snaps in a playoff game is if everyone above them is injured enough to be in street clothes.

Bills preseason games on NFL Network
Metal Man replied to CuseBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What really doesn't make sense is according to tvguide.com the Syracuse ABC affiliate is showing "Paid Programming" at 1pm this Saturday and then showing the Bills game at 7pm on tape delay again. WTF is that all about? -
I thought no fees was their gimmick, but maybe it is only for buyers. Sorry about the bad info.

Bills preseason games on NFL Network
Metal Man replied to CuseBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was in a bar for the bears game in the Syracuse area and they had NFL Network on, Direct TV. A message came on at 1pm and said that the Bills game was blacked out due to local broadcast. The stupid thing was that the game wasn't being shown locally live and was instead a taped replay at 7pm on our local ABC. That kind of rule just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. In any case as a heads up it looks like the exact same thing will be going on in the Syracuse area this Saturday as the guides are showing it as being on ABC at 7pm. -
I put this in another buying ticket thread but will put it here again for sellers. I have been using https://www.tickpick.com/ as they do not charge seller or buyer fees.

I had a suspicion that could be the case. It is a fun premise, and there seems to be room for some good world building, but 15 books does seem like a long way to run with it. Thanks for the reminder on the Takeshi Kovacs books. I had been meaning to put that on my list.

Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind is very good. I'll second Dark Tower and First Law trilogy as well as Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove described above. Song of Ice and fire is excellent but I'd avoid it as it may never get finished. Just started reading the first book in a series called The Destroyermen by Taylor Anderson. It is a pretty unique story about a WW2 destroyer that somehow ends up in an alternate Earth where evolution went much differently. I am really enjoying it so far.

Anyone ever play Axis and Allies? It is like an advanced version of Risk but a WW2 simulation. Used to play it a ton back in the day with a group of friends. Sometimes we would have to leave the board and come back to it but it was always a great time even if a long game to get through.

Clicks, expects Haikus. Finds thread about tailgating. Writes one anyway.

Agree with most of the responses in that a move is highly unlikely for many reasons. The biggest to me seems like it would be a huge "cut off your nose to spite your face" situation for the Pegulas. I might be wrong but I feel like the vast majority of Bills fans who are still in the WNY area, or spend a lot of time there, would strongly boycott any business the Pegulas have their hands in. I wouldn't even attend concerts at the arena anymore if it could lead to one extra dollar going into their pockets. Bills mafia are well known for their generosity but also shouldn't be underestimated when it comes to holding grudges. Just ask Bon Jovi. 😀

Voted Bar-Bill out of those choices. The way they brush on the sauce instead of shaking them keeps the wings from getting soggy and is a really unique wing presentation. I used to think Big Tree was up there as the best too but I have heard from friends that live in OP that it has gone down hill a bit since new ownership took over. For me though the top place I have to hit if possible every time in town for wings now over the last few years is here: https://www.route78streetbar.com/ They have a signature wing they call Bradford style. Kind of a dry rub which I usually don't go for but these are absolutely delicious.
