Bills showing interest in Punter, Marquette King
billsfan89 replied to junior's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just didn't seem like a process guy in all honesty. If he was one of the top punters in the league and the Bills just didn't have any other options I think they could entertain it. But he hasn't been that good the past couple of seasons. Hopefully via the draft they can draft a punter in round 7 and hit on a good one or scour the vet market as guys get cut in camp. Punters much like Kickers are harder to find than they seem. Vets go from top 5 in the game to cut in the matter of a season or two. -
If the Giants want Haskins they will just take him at 6 instead of trading back up. You don't risk not getting your QB to take another prospect at pick 6. The trade down scenario is in my opinion (Which is worth nothing) that makes the most sense for the Bills would be for Drew Lock. I don't see a defensive or O-line prospect that a team will clamor over to trade up for. However Drew Lock is rising up draft boards and the Bills sit just ahead of Denver a QB needy team. The Bills don't need a QB and might not be in a position to take a top 6 pass rusher if the 49ers, Jets, Raiders, Bucs, Jags, and Lions take pass rushers and the Giants and Cards take their QB's. So the Bills would love the opportunity to trade down to let any team get ahead of Denver who presumably might want a QB. Cincy, Miami, and Washington sit at picks 11, 13, and 15 and all need long term QB solutions. Ideally I would love to take Ed Oliver but if Washington wants to give up pick 15, 46, plus a 3rd or 4th in 2020 (This front office is too good at drafting to not want to stash a solid pick for next year in such a trade) for pick 9 and toss back a late round pick I would do so. It would arm the Bills with picks 15, 40, and 46 and a solid pick in their back pocket for 2020.

Hughes will need a monster 2019 to command anything dramatically above 10 million. Hughes going into 2020 will be 32 towards the back end of a pass rushers life span that's not a recipie for a big contract esp with his lower sack totals in recent years.

Is DT Gerald McCoy done in Tampa?
billsfan89 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would rather go younger at DT with pick 9. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't hate picking up McCoy but I think the team needs a young pass rusher to build the front 4 around for years to come not a player they are trying to squeeze 2 good years out of. Granted you could trade a late rounder for McCoy and go Edge rusher at pick 9 but I think the value is much better and the need much greater along the interior pass rushing side of things. -
I see a lot of similarities between this year's Bills and the Bears of 2018. The Bears in 2017 had a top 10 defense but a horrendous offense with a rookie QB who looked lost. The Bills in 2018 boasted a top 10 defense but a offense that at one point was looking historically bad (although Allen got it going more than Mitch did in 2017.) The Bears added a lot of offensive talent around a young QB and then invested their first round pick and a lot of future draft capital into their defense and they improved their offense just enough to make their QB have a chance and had an excellent defense. The Bills have made similar acquisitions along the offensive side of the ball and although I don't see them making a Mack type trade I do see pick 9 being invested into the defense and then the rest of their major draft picks back onto the offensive side of the ball. So if the Bills can get to double digit wins like the Bears then I honestly see a lot of awards talk coming the way of management and coaching.

I think it is clear that Allen, Mayfield, and Darnold were the top 3 prospects to most organizations, Rosen was in a tier below (Which is not necessarily a knock on Rosen who would probably be a top 2 QB in most draft classes, that speaks to the strength of the draft class.) Jackson was then far below Rosen (and I think the knocks on Jackson were a little bit biased but he had his flaws.) 2018 might go down as one of the better QB draft classes in recent memory and the Bills just might have gotten the best out of the bunch.

If I am speculating the Bills had a framework for a deal that probably worked for both sides in terms of draft pick compensation or at least the Steelers asking price was within the realm of what the Bills were willing to give up. The Bills knowing AB wanted an extension probably reached out to AB seeing how much he wanted and what it would take. Rosenhaus reached back out and said that AB didn't want to come to Buffalo and the whole thing collapsed. I think this is Rosenhaus protecting his client and trying to save face. I don't think the deal was as close as maybe reported but I do think that the Bills had a general framework in place and then went to put together the AB side of things and that's where it fell apart. Considering what the Bills did and continue to do in free agency I think it worked out OK.

LB - Starters/Depth - Is more needed?
billsfan89 replied to ColoradoBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see LB as a draft depth need. I think in the 4th or 5th round they draft a LB. They found Milano in round 5, so I think given that there is no intimidate need for a LB in terms of starting I think they can address the position well enough in round 4 or 5 (where the team has 4 picks.) The depth needs of this team to me are primarily at RB (Gore and Shady are ancient definitely need to spend a pick somewhere between rounds 3 and 5 on a RB,) LB (Not much behind the 3 starters and there needs to be an heir apparent behind Lorax,) and Safety (I am not sure what we have behind the two starters.) Luckily the team has plenty of picks in the mid rounds to address this. -
If the Bills were to make such a trade (And I am not sure Rosen would go for anything less than a 2nd plus a late rounder) they would have Rosen's not so light contract (Rosen's contract looks great for a starting QB or an heir apparent but it would make him among the highest paid back up QB's in the league) on the books guaranteed for 3 seasons. I just don't see this organization giving up a high third round pick for a backup QB whose contract is guaranteed at a significant cost for 3 seasons. It also doesn't help that Rosen isn't the same kind of QB as Josh (Although Barkley isn't that mobile either to be fair.) I think Rosen would be a good pickup for The Giants or any team needing a QB now or soon. I think a high second plus a sixth rounder should get it done. The Giants could easily give up their high second round pick and toss in a late round pick and then have picks 6 and 17 along with two third-round picks to build a team in other avenues. All my Giant fan friends want them to trade for Rosen and then draft DK with pick 6 and then turn around and draft a tackle pick 17 optimally trying to fill out the offense as best as possible as soon as possible then worry about the defense later when they have more cap space.

If Oliver is there at 9 I am sold. I think pass rush is the team's top defensive need and among the team's top needs overall. Even after free agency the Bills still have some needs on offense but I don't see the value at WR, TE, or Tackle. I also think that after nabbing a top pass rusher like Oliver in round 1 the team can and will fill needs in rounds 2 and 3 on offense. Now unless there is an amazing draft the team will likely still have a couple of holes and depth issues. But an impactful draft where 2-3 starters and nice depth are found can cement the team's roster in a really nice way.

Shocked the Jets didn't go with Pradis whose contract ended up being fairly reasonable.

Should the NFL eliminate the onside kick?
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo03's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say eliminate the kickoff and make it a 4th and 15 where the team can punt or go for a conversion. There is a great video on YouTube about how punts are more exciting and safer than kickoffs. -
Bills sign TE Jake Fisher to 1-year deal
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kind of a funky experimental signing. I really like it since it's low risk and innovative. -
A depth bubble guy not bad but not an Earth shattering signing either

I think at this stage of free agency most players aren't getting a multi year deal esp a player with injury issues. I think he gets a one year deal but how much is that deal worth is the question? I think he gets between 6-8 million but I could see it a little higher or lower. I would be pleased to see the Bills land him, low risk high reward. I don't see why they would need a DE to go necessarily. They can carry Hughes, Ziggy, Murphy, and Lawson. Lorax plays linebacker and flexes into a pass rushing situations so I don't count him as a D-line player. Overall I think that the Bills are following the modern blueprint for defensive lines have a lot of subs and fresh legs rotating in and out as opposed to leaning heavily on a handful of star pass rushers. So I don't think Ziggy necessarily pushes someone out.

What is fair trade value for Clowney?
billsfan89 replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is usually a bad idea to give up significant draft compensation and cap space for a player (of course there are exceptions like the Mack trade which work out for the team trading for the big name player.) But I would imagine that the Texans are probably going to want significant compensation and Clowney is going to want an extension or wind up a pricy rental. I think it would take the Bills 2ndand 4thround picks or a 2ndplus a swap of first round picks. Which isn’t super steep like the Odell trade but hardly a buy low situation either. I wouldn’t want Clowney unless the draft compensation was limited to a 3rdplus a mid-rounder. Cap wise the team has about 10-20 million to play with after you factor in rookie contracts and emergency money. There is also some fat they can cut on the roster like Ivory, DiMarco, and Vlad who could free up about 5 million dollars in space if needed. So the cap in this situation shouldn’t be an issue to make another significant trade/signing. I think it wouldn’t be in the Bills best interest to pull off such a trade for Clowney. I do like Clowney and I think in a 4-3 he could be an absolute beast. But I also think he is injury prone and can be a bit volatile personality wise. I think getting Ziggy on a one year deal would be a nice cherry on top of a good free agency period (I also wouldn’t mind seeing them sign EJ Gaines on the cheap too) it would add one needed piece to the defense and make the draft come from an even stronger position of strength. -
I do think you need an attention commander in the receiving game. You need at least one dynamic receiving option to sort of set the table for any offense. Do you need a top 10-15 receiver or a top 3-5 tight end? No but I do think you need a quality pass catcher to keep defenses honest and give your running game and supplemental receivers a chance to have space to operate. Look at the difference Amari Cooper made to Dallas's offense just as an example. I would qualify Cooper as a top 10-15 receiver but just having someone good on the outside shifts how teams play against you. I love the speed that the team brought in with Brown. I think Beasley is a quality slot player. Foster and Zay could have potential, but I think that unless Zay or Foster emerge as higher quality players than there will be a longer term need to provide a true top receiving option for the offense.

C Mitch Morse (Chiefs) to the Bills

Not sold on any of the guards on the roster.
