The late game was fun, really love how they get you the chatter between the coaches and players, it really lets you into the game. I know Vince McMahon has the league funded for 3 seasons allegedly so I hope it survives long term because the league is fun just a bit rough around the edges.

Fairly low risk and high reward type deal. He is old for the position but started in the league at age 25 so he is only an 8 year vet which isn't too bad. Hopefully the deal is structured that he could be cut at a minimal cap hit if he acts up or is ineffective.

Ekeler and Chargers agree to long term deal

The Chargers will let Gordon walk but some other team will pay him decent money, just not what he was looking for. -
Andre Dillard could be available
billsfan89 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure why they would trade their 2019 first round pick after one year? I also wouldn't be interested in Jeffery. Alshon is a quality player when healthy but he is banged up a lot even if he doesn't miss too many games some years (although he missed 6 last season) he just always is battling chronic injuries that limit his production and he is also on a big contract which just makes giving up even a limited draft choice for him not the best idea. -

He is an animal in full point PPR and very respectable in half point PPR. But in non-PPR formats he is more of a mid-level flex play. I would look at his stat lines all the time and he would often times have games where he got 15 points but it was off of 10 receptions and 50 total yards. Or in his worst games he would only get 20-30 yards but still get close to 10 points by getting 5-6 receptions. But in standard formats those games are busts. -
Name 3 FA WR who interest you...Go!
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Going for impact players the three WR's that would interest me most would be 1- Amari Cooper - Cooper is the only stud WR1 on the market. Although I don't like the money he would command (likely near 20 million aav with a hefty guarantee) he is the best WR out on the market and would immediately provide the upgrade at WR needed and push the draft need of WR down to round 3 or 4 where some depth and youth would be needed at the position. I would personally not like to see them shell out close to 20 million aav for Cooper but in terms of impact he is at the top of the market. 2- Robby Anderson - Anderson would likely command a lot less than Cooper in terms of aav and guarantees although he wouldn't come cheap (I would peg his market around 9-10 million aav) but he provides a fast WR who is 6 foot 3 and has the past three seasons eclipsed 50 receptions and 700 yards and 5 TD's at a minimum playing with middling or young QB's. I think the team would still have to draft a WR in round 2 or 3 to get younger behind the vets if they signed Anderson but they would immensely add a WR that fits their needs. 3- Demarcus Robinson - The cheapest FA WR on this list but someone I think would help add depth and come on a more modest 3-5 million aav contract. I think if you sign Robinson you then have to draft a WR high as you don't want to depend on his production level but if you are going more in the bargain bin I think Robinson is a good prospect to go after here. On the trade market I see a lot of interesting options but unless Stefon Diggs becomes available for a package of picks built around a 2nd rounder I just don't see anyone making sense at a good cost point. Odell isn't a process guy and won't come cheap, the other WR's that I think will be on the market don't have enough impact or have injury concerns. -

As much as I like Ekeler he is more of a specialist type back (although that dimension is really good), whereas Gordon is a two down runner who can be effective in passing situations. The problem is that Gordon isn't elite enough to command the type of money he wants but is too good to take what he can get. I think some team will pay decent money 6.5 to 8.5 million aav. But he will fall well short of the 10 million aav he wants. Then again weird things can happen in free agency. -

New NFL substance policy: no more testing for pot
billsfan89 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd hate to break it to you but they already were smoking as much as they wanted. The test was extremely easy to beat as it was basically one test before training camp and then you were good for the rest of the year. Aaron Hernandez never got popped for weed so it goes to show you how easy that test was to beat. I don't think anything changes. I like the policy of "decriminalizing" drugs in the NFL. But I do think that in addition to fines mandatory rehab for serial offenders of recreational drugs other than weed should be there. I don't think you want players going unchecked if they might have a drug problem. -
Here's the thing, if you know about all this great talent and the benefit of trading down then odds are the other teams do too. Trading down in the end mostly comes down to luck. Is there a team behind you that wants a player that falls to your position badly enough? Given how good McBeane is at drafting I would love a trade down BUT I also know that McBeane isn't afraid to trade up for a player they like. So as much as I could see a trade down to help them acquire more picks I could also see a trade up to the 16 range if a dynamic player they loves falls a bit.

Although I like Williams I think he might be damaged goods at this point. I think of him more as a reclamation project as opposed to someone who would be worth giving up both significant draft compensation and a big contract for. I think if he only cost you draft picks or cap dollars he might be worth a chance but I don't see it working out advantageously for the Bills. Overall I would say that the Bills are better off resigning Spain to a modest deal and keeping the O-line together or kicking Ford into guard and signing a vet RT in free agency.

Will Cody Ford Be Our Starting RT Next Year?
billsfan89 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they go with Ford and Ty at RT. O-line players have growing pains in the more modern NFL And I think that McBeane drafted Ford to be the RT and they likely feel that at worst Ty could step in and Ford could kick into guard. But I think that they are much more likely to give Cody one more year to see if he can be a RT. I think that they resign Spain and roll with the same O-line. O-line play improves with consistency and playing together. I think that McBeane will likely feel that Ford will improve at RT and the rest of the O-line play will improve after playing with each other in year two. They also still roll deep with Ty, Long, Bates, and possilby Waddle or a late round pick. I for once don't think the O-line has any major issues if Spain is resigned. Now don't get me wrong I am never opposed to upgrading the O-line and I think that if this team wants to invest a high pick or sign a upper tier free agent along the O-line I am never going to call it a bad move. But for once the O-line is actually pretty good and has solid depth. If they do want to upgrade I would kick Ford to LG and then sign a RT, but I think if they retain Spain and roll with what's there that is a decent plan. -

I would love to trade for Allen Robinson but he is coming off a very good season (with a ***** QB) and while the Bears are up against the cap I think they can find cuts elsewhere. Jones and Tate are men, outside of the slim chance that Diggs is on the block I don't see where a WR via trade makes sense. But sometimes trades come out of nowhere so you never know. -

Sanders can play outside but I think he might decline soon and is likely looking for as huge a contract as possible. If this team wants to make a big splash at WR via trade or free agency I would love to see this team trade a 2nd plus other mid round picks for Stefon Diggs. Diggs is a WR1 who is on a good contract in his prime. But I doubt the Vikings trade him. But for some reason he pops up in trade rumors and I think even factoring in the contract and draft compensation he would fill that WR1 need and the team can go edge in round 1 and pick up a WR in round 3. -

I agree that if AB does sign he will have a lengthy suspension coming his way if he does make it to the field. But I think Brady is thirsty for him and the Titans would give him a mid level deal if this scenario is to hypothetically play out. As far as Dalton, I think a team does have to give up something of value, QB's get overvalued. Remember Tyrod was traded for pick 65 and I would say Dalton has a slightly better resume. -

Indy could make sense for Rivers too. I like the fit there as well. Something tells me that Indy will however not want a long term commitment at QB since they feel Luck will come back and Rivers could be that stop gap. But I think the Pats could take Rivers and get him back to a version of his 2017 and 2018 form when he was one of the top 10 QB's in the league. I think that Belicheat wants a game manager who when called upon can win a game. I think Rivers fits that mold. I think if reigned in 80% of the time he can manage games and then when needed let it rip that other 20%. If not Rivers I could see the Pats trading a second round pick and a 2021 pick for Dalton and then drafting a QB next year while having Dalton take the position for the next 2-3 years as a pseudo game manager. -
Milano seems a bit high at 12.5 million aav. I think that comes down to about 9ish million aav. White and Dawkins seem accurate. That would put White at 16.5 million aav and Dawkins at 14.5 million aav. Both guys would come in combined at 31 million aav, which is a hefty chunk of the cap but hopefully you can roll over some of the current space (20+ million) to front load those salaries and keep the team's cap healthy going forward.

This trade makes zero sense for the Vikings. For one why would they trade Diggs? Two why would they take back Cole Beasley when Thilen is occupying their slot WR position. What are they getting for an elite WR? A solid slot corner, a redundant WR, and a 4th round pick? The Vikings save about the same amount of cap space cutting Rhodes as they would trading him so there is no benefit in taking on Rhodes salary in a trade and while Johnson would be a good get and a 4th round pick is an asset the drop between Diggs and Beasley isn't worth it. Don't get me wrong I would easily give up a 2nd round pick and a 5th round pick for Diggs who would instantly fill the need for a WR (although I would still draft a WR in round 3 to get a bit younger at the position and add depth) and easily anchor the WR core for the next 3 seasons as Diggs will be 27 next season. And Digg's contract is easy to get out of after 2 seasons so it isn't a bad contract to take on. But I don't see the Vikings dumping Diggs who is in his prime and on a more than fair contract. Let alone dumping him for a mediocre package of players and a mid round pick.

Setting aside the general nihilistic nature of getting older and everything being better when you are younger. In terms of general relevance Monday Night football can be the top relevant game or at least something that has a special nature to it. If they improved the presentation and got better games you would see more buzz about it. But Sunday Night getting the A-Slate and great presentation by NBC (Al Michaels one of the best announcers ever and overall great presentation) and the flex schedule really just put Monday Night football in the dustbin. I also think Thursday Night games have also had an impact as Monday Night used to be the last chance for action until the weekend. Now 3 days later you get a Thursday game.
-
Sunday Night football getting the A-slate of games and the flex schedule helping ensure the best games late in the season made Monday Night football lose its cache years ago. I think if they put in more effort to get better games on Monday's and improve the commentary/presentation it can be better respected but I just don't see it ever returning to the event it once was. Even in the 2000's Monday Night football as a kid/teenager was always the game everyone talked about whereas the Sunday night game was usually an after thought unless something extraordinary happened or one of the local teams were playing. Now Sunday Night football has that cache and buzz.

Belicheat will take a look at the vet QB's available to replace Brady and land on Rivers as a stop gap. Rivers in recent years up until 2019 had been a great QB in terms of consistency and low turnovers. In 2017 and 2018 he had 10 and 12 picks to 28 and 32 TD's. That's a nearly 3 to 1 TD to INT ratio. His 2017 and 2018 production levels also included high completion percentages. I think Billy B knows a bargin when he sees one and will use Rivers as his QB the next 2 seasons to buy him some time to groom a young QB. Rivers also comes at a cheaper price than Dalton who will require significant draft capital to trade for and might be as good or better anyway. I think that Rivers makes a lot of sense for the Pats if Brady bolts. Rivers can be asked to mostly manage games and work within a system. Rivers has played in a lot of different systems under a lot of different coaches and has had mostly success. I think Billy B will just ask him to mostly manage games and hand the ball off only letting him loose in games when needed. -

Some non-Bills predictions and Bills predictions for free agency. Bills Predictions 1- Quinton Spain will be the only major resigned player. Phillips and Shaq will be allowed to test the market and they will get overpaid. 2- No major splashes but several quality signings. I think they try and replicate last year’s prudent approach to free agency. I think they do go with one bigger signing in the 10-12 million aav range (similar to Mitch last off-season) and then 2-3 other 7-9 million aav signings to fill out other needs. 3- Mario Addison will be brought in to replace Shaq and an Edge defender will be drafted in the first 3 rounds to help get younger at the position long term. 4- Koft is cut but Murphy and most of the other “cut” candidates stay at least through camp. Non-Bills Predictions 1- Brady signs with the Titans as does Antonio Brown. 2- The Jets go big game hunting again and sign 2-3 big names but neglect key areas of depth and need. 3- The Pats sign Phillip Rivers 4- CMC is not traded but the Panthers do go with the full tear down outside of CMC. I think they would trade CMC if he got them 2 first round picks and another premium pick along with 1-2 other picks but that package just won’t materialize. 5- The Bears trade one of their second round picks and a future pick for Andy Dalton. 6- Andrew Luck stays retired for one more season (He comes back 2021.) 7- The Colts sign Yannick or Clowney. 8- The Chargers trade for Foles and draft Tua. Should be an interesting free agency period as I think there will be the usual flurry of signings but also there will be a lot of movement at the QB position. -
Versatility- McBeane loves it. Short mock based on it
billsfan89 replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tweener type players are very risky esp early on since they can often get lost at positions. Although a guy being versatile isn't a bad thing. Deboo from the Niners is a good example of a player who is a quality receiver who can do other things that improves his overall contribution. That type of versatility is a good thing.
