49ers sign Josh Rosen
billsfan89 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One of my worst takes ever was that the Bills should have taken Lamar or Rosen. I am glad I am not the one making the decisions for the franchise. But once the Bills made the selection within 2 days I saw why and I was on board. So it was more so a matter of being ill-informed. -
AFC set to dominate NFC for next decade+?
billsfan89 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Things turn on a dime in football but I do agree that in the NFC the QB situation is bleak. Wilson should dominate the decade or at least the next 7ish years, Rodgers will be a top tier QB for the next 3 to 5 years but his age will become an issue. Beyond that you have Murray who has shown potiental but not exactly proven just yet and not much else in terms of young QB's. Dak and Geoff are "good" QB's but hardly anything dynamic. Unless Hurts or one of the lesser harolded QB's pops off it could be very top heavy in the NFC for the foreseeable future. -
You can hurt your team by getting Covid and spreading it and thus you and other teammates can miss games. In addition you can get the virus be fine yourself but spread it to people more vulnerable. I am sure there are older coaches and older staff on the team that he could literally kill. Also we don't know the long term effects of this virus. Just because you don't die doesn't mean there can't be long term consequences. My mother got the virus in April and she hasn't had the same level of energy since despite not having any underlying health issues and a fairly healthy lifestyle.

Diggs first team all-pro chances?
billsfan89 replied to Sammy Watkins' Rib's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Diggs will get the nod. The storyline is what courts voters. -
Potential for fans in the playoffs....
billsfan89 replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think considering that this stadium is outdoors and it will be cold (thus people will actually cover their faces) I don't see the harm in letting 7 to 10k fans in. I personally take Covid seriously so I wouldn't recommend this unless I thought it made sense and I think it does and is fairly safe. -
Week 16 NFL Power Rankings
billsfan89 replied to machine gun kelly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Steelers feel like a rock, Saints lost to KC and the Bills have been winning convincingly. Only teams you could justify ahead of the Bills are KC and Green Bay and even Green Bay is debatable. -
If he didn't have attitude issues I think he could at least hang on a few more years as a backup. He has a 1 to 1 TD to INT ratio and a 61% completion percentage in two seasons. On the field he isn't tragic and if he was a good citizen he probably would just be on their bench for another year or two while he has a guaranteed rookie deal. But if you have a bad attitude and you are mediocre then you aren't going to last long in the league. Some team will sign him as a backup in 2021 but odds are if he continues to have a bad attitude he will be cut and then maybe not even be in the league in 2022.

Doesn't mean that it wasn't the right thing to do. They lost to Houston because Josh and the offense stalled out in the second half. In a year where only one team has a bye week getting a lot of your starters rested for a week can give you an advantage over 5 other teams who might not have that luxury.
-
Odds are WFT just pays him out his last two seasons by just cutting him and eats the dead cap. I think he then gets signed as a backup and gets cut before his career ends. Unless this kid gets a massive attitude change he is going to be lucky to even be in the league in 2 years. I get the Charlie Sheen motto of you don't pay the girls for sex you pay them to leave, but if you are a young, famous, decent looking millionaire you shouldn't be paying C-list strippers for sex unless you are a massive dork.

Just hope that the Steelers and Titans lose and the Bills can take care of the Pats*. That locks the two seed up and makes week 17 meaningless. Which is kind of where the Bills want to be, they can sit Josh, Tre, Dawkins, D.Williams and a few other key players giving the team a defacto bye week (in a year where there is no bye week for the two seed sadly.) The NFL is as much an act of attrition (which is why the Bills depth is so critical) as it is a contest of talent. Getting to avoid KC until the AFCCG, having all your games be at home for the first two round and possibly all rounds if KC gets knocked off, and getting to rest a lot of players the last week of the regular season is setting your team up about as good as you can possibly get without being the one seed.

The Bills defense even at its lowest points was still ranked not that tragically in a lot of categories (They were typically ranked 18-22 in most categories, not good but not among the worst defenses in the league in anything besides rush defense.) They have played better and are ranking average or better in most key categories, I suspect if they finish strong they will be in the 12-17 range for most categories which is a high level of improvement to go up 5 to 10 rankings in most categories.

Week 16 NFL Power Rankings
billsfan89 replied to machine gun kelly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ranked two in all but one of those rankings (and 3 in the other one)? Very reasonable and legit. This feels unreal. To go from a perennial 6-7 win team stuck in a deep playoff drought with cheap ownership (sorry Ralph) that can't catch a break to a respectable team and now to a contender is wild. Take care of the Pats and get that 2 seed. -
Makes sense but I wish the Bills got one more on there specifically Poyer. I think Hyde, Poyer, Beasley, Dawkins and D.Williams could all make it somewhat justifiably, if there is a "second team" or a reserve team anyone of those could make it. That is honestly the way it should be in my opinion. I think the players should receive an "All Star" honor for their efforts on the season but an actual game is completely unnecessary.

Sad news...Kevin Greene dead at 58
billsfan89 replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a kid I had no idea this guy was a big time football player until I say him playing on the Panthers in 1998 or 99 when he was still putting up double digit sack seasons at age 37 and 38. He is 3rd all time in sacks in an era that wasn't top heavy in passing just yet. -
That depends on what the value of Jimmy G on a huge contract is? He had an excellent year in 2019 but didn't really do all that well in the games he played in 2020 (he wasn't bad but certainly not eye popping performances) and in 2018 he was hurt early and sitting on a 1-2 record with pedestrian numbers. Along with the fact that while he was 5-0 in 2017 he didn't really light the world on fire. He is on a pretty big deal as well. I think that if the number two pick is a top flight QB that trade isn't super outlandish although I think the 2022 pick being a 1st is outright unlikely as it likely would be a 2nd or 3rd. That all being said the 49ers are a pretty veteran team and I doubt they want to start over with a rookie QB while also bankrupting your draft picks for a draft and giving up a premium pick in a future draft.
-
I think the Mahomes model of contracts where contracts will be taking up a percentage of the cap as opposed to a raw number will be the norm in these weird cap times. But I do agree that Mahomes will be an Aaron Rodgers type where pretty much no matter what they will be a 10+ win team that contends and wins playoff games. I also think KC will make the cap sacrifices on the defensive side of the ball as opposed to the offense. I think they would rather cut and let walk defensive players and keep the elite talent around him. That of course is going to lead to Mahomes having to win more shoot outs which is hard to do but he of course can do it with some regularity. The Bills luckily have one more year of Josh's rookie deal plus a 5th year option that will be steep but still keeps him under contract under market value (I think after 2021 is when they will have Josh's extension come in so they can lower the aav a bit by putting some money on that 5th year option.) But I also think McD will do the same thing as KC will do and load up on the offensive side draft and cap wise.

Ex Bills TE Logan Thomas Quietly Having a Great Season
billsfan89 replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point if John Brown gets back I view him as a nice complementary weapon. Brown is the burner, Beasley the slot machine and Diggs the number one. Knox, Davis, Kroft, Mac, and the RB's out of the backfield are all complementary weapons. So Knox this season doesn't have to be a huge factor he can still come along more slowly. But I think as Beasley and Brown get older in 2021 it might be time for Davis and Knox to be more of a factor in the passing game. -
Up 16 and the offense hung the defense out to dry. That's on Josh but 2019 was a growing year for him. The defense being asked to not give up anything when up 16 is unreasonable esp with a whole half left to play. Josh gets longer sustained drives and a TD in the third quarter and things are vastly different.
