The Bills subtly found a way to get more physical on both sides of the ball. Sanders brought a physicality and mentality to the WR corps and Spencer Brown brought a lot to the Oline as he is a physical monster. They are also using Moss more who runs in a physical manner. Defensively they got back Star up the middle which has helped but also drafted two DE’s with high end physical profiles. This team is better built for playoff football with these subtle moves.

I thought it was more important to keep Johnson but if they can find a way to keep Wallace I am fine with it. In the end the Bills will eventually have let players walk but let’s see how this season plays out before worrying about who to keep. Who also knows how Levi finishes the season or if he gets hurt. Love to keep him but there are just so many variables with 12 regular season games to go.

The Titans did it last year against Josh to some success, the Bills aren’t the only team with good secondary players. I agree that the defense talent wise won’t be matched often but the Bills will need Beasley to carve up soft zones and just in general to generate cheap first downs.

Teams have adjusted to him and are playing a soft two deep look and banging up Kelce. Without a good WR2 the Chiefs now have a defensive gameplan that will challenge them. The soft two deep look takes away Hills deep plays esp if you have good safety play. So then you look to Kelce who teams are banging up down low and willing to take holding calls and penalties against. KC then can run the ball which will work against lesser defenses but against a good Dline that isn’t going to work. Mahomes and KC will still put up huge numbers against mid level or lower defenses they just can’t be constrained easily but if you have a good defense they can be flustered. I would not be shocked to see KC try and trade for a WR by the trade deadline. They need some other way to hurt better defenses. Mahomes had time, the Bills pressured him but not anything insane. What happened in my eyes was that the Bills made KC play a style that is very patient and the Chiefs made little errors that were forced by effective disciplined play by the Bills. Mahomes wasn’t on the run every play like in the Super Bowl even if there was some effective pressure it wasn’t anything crazy.

A few Thoughts about the Chiefs Game, in no particular order
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
This game meant a lot to the Bills. They had to slay their dragon and establish themselves as the top dogs. However the Bills were impressive on both sides of the ball. Offensively outside of the third quarter they dominated the game moving the ball at will. Defensively they had an effective game plan and executed it perfectly and the special teams were solid. The Bills are playing like a well oiled machine and it came out in the score winning by not two but three possessions. What impressed me more was coming back after a hour half time delay. That type of delay can cause a shift in momentum and the Bills just crushed it afterwards. KC didn’t have Jones and were banged up slightly but the Bills outright dominated and showcased they are for real. Another measuring stick game with big AFC implications on the road against the Titans. Hoping to see another instance of dominance and revenge. -
Collinsworth was almost impossible to listen to.
billsfan89 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Collinsworth while not as intolerable as a guy like Joe Buck is pretty bad in my opinion. He tends to have his favorites and his bias shows. His football knowledge isn’t bad which is why I can’t say he isn’t the worst. I do enjoy Al Michael’s and the rest of the SNF presentation. -
I will be interested to see how the Bills attack the Titans defense. The Titans did a two deep “soft” approach and it was effective. I suspect they do something similar again. My primary interest is to see how they dink and dunk up the field and if the offense can run on a solid front 7. By far the best defense this offense will face since week one when the Steelers were healthy.

That Titans Covid game really pissed me off last season. A weird Tuesday game because the Titans were cheating Covid protocol and shock they got Covid. The Titans also to their credit came out with a good plan against the Bills defensively. I think this is another good litmus test for the Bills who will have to see if they can break the Titans defense that worked last season and if the Bills can hunker down against Henry.
-
I hope this is just he don’t want the distraction of social media. I hope that the Bills find a way to get him involved in the offense. I can easily see teams mimicking the two deep safe defense that worked against KC. If that’s the case they will need Beasley to help the dinking and dunking up the field.

Never thought Knox couldn’t develop Into a starting caliber TE. But he has completely taken over Gabe Davis and even Beasley at this point as the teams third receiving option which I never thought would happen.

Difference was the Dline was able to generate enough pressure and hold against the ground game. Last year against KC in the regular season they were gaining 7-8 yards a clip on the ground and it was making it far too easy to just grind the game out. This time they weren’t able to get that so they had to dink and dunk against the secondary and it caused issues.

The Bills are officially the betting favorites to win the Superbowl

What a world to live in. -
That roughing the passer call on Clark was BS but the Ed Oliver one on fourth down was almost as suspect and on top of that there was a really bad holding call on Mitch the play before that would have given the Bills a first down. You can moan about that call but do not act as through the refs were so one sided. The Bills outright owned this game and despite bad calls on both sides they deserved the win.

I think it was super fortunate that no major coaches/coordinators were poached from the Bills. Having Daboll and all the major components of the staff back for another season has created a rare sense of continuity that just doesn't exist in the modern NFL. McD and this team are definitely running on all cylinders. The team is coming off its fourth straight 3 possession win and this time it comes against a good team on the road. I know Chris Jones being out puts a damper on it a bit but hey everyone has people missing. You had a fluky delay and you still didn't let anything fluky happen.

That Roughing the passer call really bailed out the Bills when the game was still in doubt. That being said I would have to look at how the game was called in terms of consistency. That's what the players and coaches want from officiating. Officiating in almost any sport has a high degree of subjectivity and the NFL is no different. However the key is to call a game consistently. If you are calling a game tight the whole way through then that's fine the players and coaches will adjust knowing that you are calling it tight. If you are letting things go let them go the whole way through. This game felt like it was being called tight the whole way which is fine but I think you would have to review each play to really know.

Bills sign Taron Johnson to 3 year extension

He is a very unsung hero type of player on this defense. -
What they thought in 2017 of McD hire
billsfan89 replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall
I always favor going after up and coming coordinators as opposed to retreads. So I liked the McD hire personally. I thought it was the right move philosophically to try and catch lighting in a bottle with an up and coming coach as opposed to chasing someone proven. I think the fans liked the idea of the coordinator route but were unsure of McD’s track record which was a good but far from great DC coaching under a defensive coach. The media was lukewarm not calling it a bad hire but questioning if it was the teams best option. -

Love it, he is an underrated part of the defense. -
Jets give D-lineman with 6 career starts $55m
billsfan89 replied to 1ManRaid's topic in The Stadium Wall
The structure of the deal as other posters have mentioned basically makes it a one year deal with an option to pick up the rest as they can get out of the contract after 2022 with a small dead cap hit. It is the type of deal that benefits both sides. It looks foolish on the surface but digging into the details it is a sensible deal. -
Dallas was a big game that season as it was a game that all but clinched a playoff spot (it pushed them to 9-3 with a tough schedule ahead) and put the Bills on the map on national television. But the Bills do need that big road statement win. KC would be a good place to start.

Bills/Chiefs Score Predictions Thread
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
35-28 Buffalo, it is difficult to win a shoot out but the Bills prove to themselves that they can win against KC. I think the difference in this game vs the AFC title game is going to be two fold. The first and obvious one is that the Bills WR’s are healthy. Going into the AFCCG John Brown was battling an ankle injury all year, Cole Beasley had a broken leg and Gabe Davis got dinged up in the Ravens game the week before. Diggs then got hurt early in the game. Having healthy receivers would make it possible for the Bills to score more and at least give them a chance to win a shootout. Secondly I think the Bills come into this game able to be more physical and mentally tough. In the ground game they will have Moss who was hurt last year. I also think Spencer Brown being there adds physicality to the Oline. In addition I think Sanders adds a mental toughness, physicality and vet presence that wasn’t there before. Then on defense I think you have a much more physical Dline. Star up the middle is an impact maker and the younger guys like Rousseau, Aj and Basham are also there and could make a difference. Overall hoping to see the Bills make that matchup in physicality that they didn’t last year for various reasons. -
So what's the offensive game plan?
billsfan89 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills are going to likely have to at a minimum score 28 points to win. I think the key is to take what KC gives you and control the clock. A patient gameplan that prods the defense early and establishes the run is likely the way to go. See how KC is playing you and attack it. -
PFF first-quarter All Pro team (2 Bills listed)
billsfan89 replied to FilthyBeast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was hearing at the time that he wanted to be paid like a top punter in the league and the Bills just didn’t value him that way and we’re willing to pay him below his ask. No idea if that’s true but I think with how quickly they moved to sign Hackk it is probably clear Bojo wanted top dollar or out of Buffalo. Just frustrating that they both messed up the market.
