So, 4-12 predictors...how's that working out?
Magox replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believed in the FO and McD right from the get go. You could sense that these guys were different and had a vision and plan. Never in my wildest dreams did I believe this team would have this many wins and make the playoffs. It's astounding that this organization was able to achieve what it has with this talent depleted team. Amazing -

An Offseason That Takes Us To The Next Level
Magox replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see Beane and company addressing the front 7 in a meaningful way this off season. I also believe they will go after Cousins and if they can't get him and Alex Smith is available, he he would be someone else they'd target. I do believe that we either draft a QB with one of our first 4 picks and have him compete with Peterson to be the QB this next season or they get a proven QB via FA. We had tons of turnover this past season, expect that trend to continue. The defense will have anywhere from 5-7 new starters and 2-4 new starters on offense, all of which aren't currently on the roster. -

Did you feel better after this post? -
No he is not. Here is a stat for you, when Gaines starts we are 7-3, when he doesn't we are 1-4. And yes, Gaines has been a major contributor for our defense. His problem of course has been his health, he does appear to be brittle, similar to the pre madona Watkins, except Watkins hasn't even earned the right to be a pre madona, his production throughout his NFL career has been lackluster. He had one really good 9 game stretch and aside from that, he's been absent. I don't get why you guys stick up for this guy, he's not likable, he never endeared himself to fans, he wasn't liked by some of his teammates and simply put he didn't even come close to living up to his draft status. It was the biggest mistake that Whaley did, giving up an additional first rounder when he could have selected 4 other guys that ended up being better than him. What a costly mistake by Whaley.

So Marcell, Watkins and Darby were major contributors and a reason why those teams succeeded?

Watkins and Woods would have been better with Tyrod
Magox replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he does it he better pick a team where he believes he will be the primary target. Clearly that hasn't been the case with the Rams, hell he hasn't even been the 2nd or 3rd option. Number 4 for the Rams. Woods on the other hand has really began to blossom this year. -
Yeah, and I'd rather have Gaines, a 2nd rounder and millions in cap savings than the underperforming Watkins.
-
I suppose he could. It's just a mystery to me why he hasn't been able to put it all together.
-
What's even more of a fact is that he has severely underperformed his talent and has been a huge disappointment.
-
His point is that Sammy has failed to live up to expectations and is not nearly as good as many on this board believe him to be. So you are saying that he was worth that first round pick? He has not been a key player for the Rams. Without him they still will the same amount of games. Let's just admit that he hasn't lived up to expectations and that he's not as good as you and most others believed he was.

Rodak: Bills Remain Confident in Zay Jones
Magox replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Definitely not a good year for Zay, had troubles with catches and separation. Hopefully his route running improves by a decent margin and he ends up being a good slot receiver. As of right now, I don't see him being a successful #2. -
It's nice to finally have a GM and front office that actually has a well-defined vision. We'll see if all these moves pan out, I suspect they will. I also happen to believe that Glenn, Hughes and Lawson are all on the chopping block. I could be wrong but that is the sense I get. There are a lot of holes that need to filled and even more so if we trade these guys off. My hopes is that we are active in FA and pick up at least a few new starters along with all those draft picks. You're barking up the wrong tree, dude. I have no personal vested interest in TT aside from him succeeding because he is a Bill. I'm just laying out how I believe potentially a few teams will view him. Which is a guy that can protect the ball, game manage and make some plays with his legs.
-
Some team will and it will be a defensive minded team. If you can put TT behind a team with a good ground game and lights out defense some team will value his ability to protect the ball. He's capable enough to take a team like this deep into the playoffs. I think Denver is a logical choice while they search for their long-term answer. I think he could fetch anywhere from as high as 4th rounder to no lower than a 6th. He'll be starting somewhere

Sunday is the biggest game since 2004
Magox replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's nice to have a meaningful game going into the last week of the season. And I could have sworn that in 2004 when we lost to the Steeler backups, it wasn't a win and your in sort of deal. If memory serves me right, a team or two had to lose and they did. Bills just focus on winning and let the rest sort itself out. -
He's a great system fit and if we are able to retain him and he remains semi healthy, it will end up being a trade that we end up fleecing the Rams. Of course, those are some big if's. I'm hoping we offer him a deal, 5 year $35M with $20m guaranteed. That's what I believe he's worth. Despite his injuries, he ended up being much more valuable to us than Watkins was with the Rams. Simply put, he was a better player than Sammy.

Some thoughts about the Bills and the team's future
Magox replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I happen to believe the OP's thoughts on the Bills pretty much mirror mine. With the defensive game planning and quality DB's we have, if this team could upgrade the front 7 with people who can stuff the run and get after the QB, this could turn out to be a top 3 defense. Of course, that is much easier said than done and we'll have to get some proven commodities via FA and hope that the scouting department and GM are able to identify and select those players through the draft. We have 5 picks in the first three rounds and I'm guessing we'll find a few solid contributors with those picks. The way I see it is that we need: 1 High caliber DE 2 new DT's 2 more LB's 1 more DB providing depth (assuming Gaines is retained), if not we'll need 2 more DB's. 1 Guard 1 QB 1 WR to be the #2 (Zay in the slot) Possibly a tackle if we trade away Cordy Glenn. I hope that he's health enough so that we don't have to fill yet another hole. A lot of holes on this team, it's amazing to me that with all these needs that the Bills were able to get as many wins as they did. It's a credit to the coaching staff and the preparation and solid fundamentals they've displayed through most of the year. -
What we've learned about McDermott & Beane from this season
Magox replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You asked what "players" and I spoke about a team as a collective. That's the problem with too many fans, they view things from too narrow of a prism. I'm talking about team football. -
What we've learned about McDermott & Beane from this season
Magox replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team is playing above their talent level. The collection of players we have right now should be a 4-12 to 6-10 team. All the prognosticators thought that's where we'd be and that was even before we had traded the all-world decoy Sammy Watkins, underperformer Dareus and the legendary JAG in our back up running back Williams. -
What we've learned about McDermott & Beane from this season
Magox replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Considering the lack of talent, he's done a hell of a job. Sure, his game managing skills need work but coaching is so much more than game management. He's got this team motivated and playing above their talent level. Next year, when this defense completely revamps its front 7 and improves the offensive line, this team is going to improve markedly from where it is right now. What's killing this team more than anything is it's front 7. They can't shut down the run and they can't get pressure. McD/Beane realize this and they will do everything they possibly can both in the draft and FA to improve that. I wouldn't be surprised if we see 4-5 new starters in the front 7 this coming year.
