What would it (realistically) take to get Alex Smith?
Magox replied to NickelCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry but you guys are deluding yourself. I am 90% certain that the very least he will be traded for is a 2nd. Most likely a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th. -
Everyone Talks Trade Up For QB, But What If....
Magox replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, really! We gave up 2 first rounders for an underperforming player. At least Maybin cost us only one. -
So they scored Touchdowns 67% of the time with Daboll and 61.5% of the time with Lane? Looks to me that they got better in the Red zone.

Have we not learned from the Sammy Watkins debacle? Possibly the worst GM move that the Bills have made on draft day in decades. I do not want to package two firsts unless it's a QB. -
Why doesn't the NFL change Defensive PI to 15 yards?
Magox replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, the commentator in the game got me to thinking about this and it is something that I had previously thought about before. I do agree that in many cases the rewarded penalty seems to be harsh. On the other hand what is to stop defenders from flagrantly penalizing a player whenever they are at risk of getting beat. I think the end result would be less long touchdown passes due to this rule change. If you did do it, you would have to bump up the penalty yardage to either 20 or 25 yards or half the distance to the goal line or automatic to the 3 yard line if it's in the endzone. Also, they would need to have a different category of penalty such as they do in the NBA. Flagrant foul. If the defender does it and it is clear that they purposely did it then the defender gets a Flagrant foul which would incur some additional penalty. Also, if players get a certain number of flagrant fouls in a certain time period they get booted from the game or the following game. I'm just thinking aloud but something along these lines. Or, they can just leave it as is. -
So basically we are looking for a bunch of tosser's.

Clearly Daboll is highly regarded by the best minds in football, he is detailed oriented, known as an innovator, has won alot of meaningful games, has intimate knowledge of the Pats and is from Western NY. Plus he had that awesome 2nd half adjustment for Alabama. I'm optimistic. Having said that, we really need a QB

Crusading. You do that quite a bit, as a matter of fact you are a habitual serial crusader. But that's neither here nor there. I'm not in favor of banning people.

Why I Think the Smart Move is Pay to Get Cousins
Magox replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there are probably only about 10-12 Franchise QB's and Cousins is in that group. He's a bottom-tiered Franchise QB but he does make his offensive players around him better. The Skins were decimated with injuries this year, their offensive line went through a multitude of injuries, arguably this was his best year yet. He's also a fiery competitor. Having said that, reading in between the lines of what Beane had said, I don't think we will be in the running to pay him what he'll get which is probably going to be in the $25-$28 Million a year range. I would love to have Cousins, but I don't see it happening. My fall back option would either trade up for one of the QB's if they absolutely love whichever QB prospect that is OR Trade for Alex, probably would have to give up a 2nd and a 3rd and hope that another QB they like falls to them in the draft like a Mason Rudolph. That way you still have another 1st and a 2nd to continue building. -
They traded a 3rd for Benjamin. And the Bills fleeced the Rams with that trade.

I think out of it all, that was the most damning result and what doomed him in more than anything.

The author missed out on a couple important things. A) Search for the Franchise QB B) Get some quality DT's -
Brandon Beane on the John Murphy & Howard Simon Shows
Magox replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aside from mentioning the importance of making it his #1 mission in getting a franchise QB, I thought what was also noteworthy was "Beane - at the end of the day, it will be my decision to make, but it will be a collaborative effort leading up to the draft. #Bills" -
Article from Yahoo Sports on Mayfield
Magox replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills love him and believe he's a franchise QB, then I think you have to try to trade up to #4 Cleveland's second pick. It's an awfully big risk to allow Denver and the Jets to make their selections, there is a decent chance they could very well select Mayfield. I think Mayfield is going to be a good QB in this league. -
How so? I think this is partially it. I also believe they understand that having a deep threat like Sammy that it opens up their offense. I also believe they think he could turn out to be something more than he has shown. I don't believe they are convinced he's a legitimate #1, but with these possibilities of him potentially being a true #1 and that they traded a 2nd rounder and a good player in Gaines, it makes it awfully difficult to let him hit the open market.

Bills 2018 cap space projection
Magox replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we could replicate what we did this past year in the off season via the draft and FA then it will chart the course for this team to compete for the division title. It's such a critical off season, one of the most consequential that I can remember in quite some time. We are most likely replacing the QB that led us to the playoffs and we have some ageing vets that have been important to this team that may be soon out the door. We have more quality draft choices than I can remember in my lifetime to shape this team and plenty of cap space to solidify the organization. If we strike out with this off season it would certainly set back the organization. Hit it out the park and we are perennial playoff contenders for the next few years. -
Bills 2018 cap space projection
Magox replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe we will be keeping Alexander. He would be serviceable as a backup option and some pass rushing. But what stands out most about him is his leadership and that he convey's the importance of buying in and the "process". Cordy Glenn if healthy I would hope that we keep him. But my hunch is that he will be gone as well. Incognito should absolutely stay. Even though his play dropped off some he was still our best lineman. TT I believe is a goner. I appreciate that he was a leader of the offense that finally took us to the playoffs and his style of play kept us in games. But we need more from that position as we all saw how painfully obvious that was against Jacksonville. With an average QB we win that game by at least a touchdown. -
I agree, but now-a-days it seems like QB's are playing at a high level into their upper 30's. Plus he's an athletic guy as it is, I wouldn't be surprised that he has another 5 more solid years. I think he's probably viewed as a valuable player in the league. Not top shelf, but valuable. I do agree though, He'll probably fetch a 2nd rounder and another draft choice based off some sort of performance metric. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs were able to get 2 2nd rounders worth of value.
