At least a PORTION of Ed Oliver's success Sunday night was due to how lost that RG Faalele looked. Oliver was a large part of making Faalele look so hapless, but did anyone see the play circulating online tagged as one of the worst plays EVER by an offensive lineman? Now that the euphoria of the win has worn off, unless something drastic changes on defense this will be McDermott’s last year as Bills head coach. The undersized Linebackers and complicated coverages that values DB’s who are in the right spot instead of guys who can play man… we’re never getting over the hump with a McDermott defense no matter how good Josh is. It’s a flawed system.

His gap responsibility was horrible. Milano was no better. That said if the tackles get off their blocks and clog the gaps the backs dont get to the second level. The entire defense was piss poor in the run game. Again, if you are relying on your safeties in the run game its already too late.

Which is totally fine - but what Josh said is also totally fine. Reality is that if the Bills were up or game was tied 30% of the stadium wouldn’t have left. All he is saying is the game was still winnable, have a little more faith next time. 30% of the stadium just missed out on one of the biggest comebacks and moments in the stadium history and in prime time of the home opener of the last year in the stadium. Last night was definitely not an indication of that. It's his first ever pro game, against the absolutely last offense you'd ask to welcome you to the NFL as a DT. In general I think fans are way too quick to want to make sweeping personnel changes based on this game. If it still looks the same in a few weeks yeah you look to make some changes. Personally though I think the defensive coaching staff needs to do a better job getting the guys they have prepared for the opponent. Ravens offense looked like a well oiled machine while our defense looked like day one install of training camp. The number of mental mistakes and missed responsibilities goes above and beyond the players IMO. We flat out were not ready on that side of the ball.
