Every fan sees why we can’t stop the run without throwing numbers at it. We draft undersized, penetrating DT’s. Thats the trade off. We draft undersized, sideline to sideline linebackers. That’s the trade off. Our run defense is bad by design. Always has been. Everyone saw this coming a mile away. Now it’s further exposed due to injuries and not having prime Hyde/Poyer to mask defensive deficiencies on the back end. And why do we have so many injuries every year on Defense? Well, undersized players typically don’t hold up as well over the course of the season when getting pummeled by bigger, stronger players. None of this is surprising. Just like the WR issues ever since Diggs/Brown/Beasley. It’s cognizant team building failures and it’s by design. Somehow the only people who don’t see this reside at One Bills Drive. Team is built to rush the passer and hunt off a lead. But we can’t do that when games are close because the opponent has 9-10-11 play drives consuming 6-7-8 minutes, shortening the game for an Offense that has zero quick strike ability

True. But this is a defense that gives up short stuff to stop the 70 yard plays. It's not working.

Maybe? "low positive Josh" does seem a little like this new "No Super Bowl expectation Josh" But there's a whole slew of other reasons why Josh is simply a game manager this year.

so i hate seeing josh look sad and lost as we lose, gotta be the worst thing. that said, i remember when we ditched dorsey for brady (good move). our like yards and points per game were almost exactly the same after. we just had fewer turnovers and ran more and passed less. also, i read that josh has like the exact same (to two decimal places) EPA per play this year as last year through this many games. this is with kinkaid emerging as more or less the best TE in football so far, and cook being a savage monster. and our record is what, exactly what it was last year at this time, with almost the exact same two crummy losses with the d folding and the O losing the plot? while how the points and yard happen change, and we have our good games and bad, the actual consistency of our O and josh is actually insane. if he's healthy we have just as good of a shot or better as we had in seasons prior. more than any other, i think this seasons is on our coaching staff -- they will either ascend and show that they are elite or they will falter and remove all doubt that we need to move on.

The word is out........we can't stop the run, our D is soft, can't get pressure on the QB, WR's hunker down in the soft spots, etc. Our D is getting progressively worse from year to year, but hey, better keep our HC Defensive guru around to fix it and we better keep wasting our resources in draft picks and cast-offs. It's been 9 years and counting, like what in the good name of **** is he waiting for?!? 13 seconds should have been the end of it..........that's all i have to say about that

This was from their last year of college. Obviously you have to factor in level of competition, physical traits, total number of targets, etc… That’s why I said “don’t overreact.” At the same time, this chart says, “here’s how impactful these players were when they were targeted.” We shouldn’t just dismiss it because the guy we drafted had horrible metrics. It’s not the ONLY thing that should be looked at but it certainly should be looked at…

Agreed. I think it also provides a great barometer to help determine the best course of action for the remainder of this season -- and the next week heading up to the trade deadline in particular. That is, is this team as good as we thought/hoped going into the season where a single big move (like trading a future first round pick for a bona fide #1 WR) is in play -- or is the team really much further from that level, requiring too many pieces to seriously go "all in" for 2025.

This is what happens when you start Daquan Jones. Beane is still obsessed with a light and fast defense that a lot of teams ran around 2020-2021. The league has an adjusted but he really hasn’t, though Deone Walker looks like a slam dunk pick.

He's a backup, at best. Probably won't get a second contract in the NFL. Not sure any more "assessing" needs to be done.
