Then he needs to earn his jersey. Simple as that. Unless you want them to be a joke team that hands players jobs they don't deserve like many other teams do (who usually are bottom feeders).

Not in October. It's still only the beginning of the season. The 4Q statement game you speak of should happen in the first round of the playoffs. That's where you send a signal to the other teams in the playoffs that there's a monster in Western New York waiting for them.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW – At the One-Quarter Mark
Walking Tall replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall
I just don’t agree with the whole month of September and some of October are “pre-season games”. If they do away with the pre-season games and scrimmages during the month of August, will it then become September through November are pre-season games? These teams have multiple mini-camps during the off-season that lead up to the official training camp. They didn’t do that in grandpa’s NFL. They also didn’t receive millions of dollars or were expected to know their playbooks inside and out like they are today when training camp arrives. Much less be in tip-top physical shape. The teams with the best talent, coaching, and have less injuries and suspensions will always stand above the rest. Whether it be the first week in September or the last in December. -

Surely you know there's is a massive difference between superstar and not dressing for games. Regardless of whether it is too early to call him a Beane bust, it is a significant disappointment that a 3rd round pick cant dress for game day. -

My take is a bit different. Ty & Ray got so few carries because when they are in there, they were NOT effective, which forces Brady to give Cook more carries, kind of similar to Joey Bosa had to be out there taking so many snaps because no one else can get close to the QB. Pre-season game time to find out is over. If this continues post the bye, I'm willing to give Gore Jr. some try as a PS call up.

Did the TV broadcast indicate whether McD handled playcalling in the second half today? I sit on the opposite side of the stadium, and I don’t take binoculars in. BUT, from my distant perch, I saw him routinely stationed about 20 yards on the defensive side of the LOS with what appeared to be a play sheet when NO had the ball. My impression was that he was running the D. See above. -

This whole discussion is an excellent microcosm of what the sports commentary world has become. We almost need a better term than "hot take" - saying a take is hot still implies that there is any thought involved. I don't think this thread will ever go away. It will get bumped according to what you wrote above - from people on both sides of the question, depending on how Sunday went for both players. -

Defensive coaching improvement is going to be a tough one early in the season, I think we have to be patient and look closely right now. Sean already said to start the year the defense will be a work in progress due to new and inexperienced players. So I think they would try and keep his system as simple as possible now, until the unit starts to come together. https://www.si.com/nfl/bills/onsi/sean-mcdermott-explains-bills-curious-personnel-decisions-in-week-4-vs-saints “Just looking at different players,” said McDermott, explaining why Codrington did not play. “Seeing how the game day roster looks with different players up, different players down. With the goal of making sure we have our best guys out there as we head down the road here.” On Strong getting playing time: “Just looking at a young player,” explained McDermott. “Giving him some experience and some valuable reps. It wasn’t anything that Tre didn’t do. That was the plan going into the game.” This is new to me and exactly what I want to see from him with the defense. I don't want incompetent players being given minutes, but if Hairston and/or Hancock are doing well enough in practice, I hope they get the same treatment. Push their development because they could really help the team, especially in an injury situation. So signs are looking good to me here. My second component would be customizing the defense for the opponent. Even down to specific plays. I haven't seen much change here, and we've seen some attempts at man coverage, but we would really need Hairston at a minimum for that, IMO. But given the unsettled status of the D, I think that is why we are playing such soft zones and unimaginative pass rush again. Maybe coming off the bye, but I think around our 10th game (Tampa) will be where they start creatively tasking the defense. Which means we may play infuriating D against KC and take a lot of fan grief for it, but I'd rather play vanilla and save it for the playoffs. Mahomes is still very good but IMO has lost his elite quick-decision-making edge and I think we can take them in Jan/Feb this year if the D comes together. -
#1 in pass defense though, and shockingly only 30th in yards per attempt when they allowed 8.2 yards per carry in week 1. Like the actual team-wide yards per carry allowed actually went down against NO, even allowing 5.55 yards per carry across 34 carries. That's how bad they were in week 1. They need to do a better job with athletic QBs, need to tackle better to create more third downs and prevent conversions, and need to be better getting off the field. If they did all of those things better though - they'd probably be the best defense in the league.

Your end of the state is dwarfed by Northern VA. The Republican woman had no real campaign until a few weeks ago, and Spanberger has been running for two years, since she quite her House job and announced. She has been carpetbombing the media to the point where I'll go through a set of triple A' just muting her ads. Still, nothing from the Republican candidate other than the boys in sports/locker room thing. This one is settled. -

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
Rocky Landing replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's unrealistic to expect Coleman to have anywhere near the contested catch rate he had in college. To my eyes, the biggest improvement we've seen from Keon is his ability to get open, and get separation-- something some on here have said he would never do. Four games into the season, he has a 77.3% completion rate on 22 targets. Comparing that to his '24 rate of 43.9%, I'd say he's made some serious improvements in his game. -
The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
Kirby Jackson replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
Man, this conversation will never end. Yes, Worthy is a better player than Keon. He has also gotten dinged and doesn’t have Coleman’s frame. Coleman doesn’t look like a bust. He does look like “a” guy and not “the” guy. Worthy looks like a dynamic playmaker with a frame that is concerning (think prime Desean Jackson). The reality of the 2024 NFL Draft is that the Bills desperately need a WR in a great WR draft. They needed a dude and got a guy. Yes, they would have been better with Worthy or Ladd. They also could have done worse with Legette or AD Mitchell. There is no reason to continue beating this dead horse. They could have done better. They could have done worse. -
Yes...Herbert should be MVP while struggling every week to hit 20 points a game...

Thanks for confirming Shaw. Iwas at the game and saw Tre lined up in the S role a few times and had to do a double take. Peaked my interest. Haven’t had a chance to watch the game but curious on their D alignment with Tre at S. -
