Game week thread - Bengals at Bills (flexed to 1pm ET)
ngbills replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Getting ahead of ourselves here but what do we do with this guy when his contract is up? He just cant stay on the field. And when he does he goes invisible sometimes as well. I dont know if any team would be willing to pay him. If we do it feels like one of those wasted contracts that will sit on the IR half the year. -
UB Men's Basketball: 8-0, host 8-1 Bona Saturday 2pm ESPN+

To be fair, UB has D3 Penn State Behrend to finish their out-of-conference schedule. I don't think D3 and D2 games count toward SoS. The fact is P4 schools won't travel to non-major programs so your pool of OOC programs gets small. But I've argued over at UBFan.com that UB should play the other SUNY D1 basketball programs more: Albany, Binghamton and Stony Brook. I'll be watching the game on ESPN+ and wishing I were there. -
Ja'Marcus Ingram claimed by Houston

I think it’ll probably happen when Lassiter comes back…Texans just need a warm body that is a low injury risk in the short term there’s plenty of real reasons to hate him we don’t need to stretch ones like this is what I was saying lol -

Remember that time that he had a pick six, where he kicked it to himself earlier this season? I barely do, but I could use another one of those. -

Very true, but heres one more scary observation, Our defense is arguably worse, older and more injury riddled than that playoff game at the moment. McD has occasionally shown that he has learned from experience against certain teams (KC at least in the regular season) but has he learned to neutralize Burrow and his strengths? The last game vs the Bengals in November 2023, we did slightly better but had the same problems as the playoff game.

It is all relative. I really dont care what chiefs fans think about Xaiver, i would be dumbfounded if they were as displeased as Bills fans are with Coleman. Keon is a borderline bust, especial;y considering where he was drafted. You might not consider it a is not a slam dunk but I certainly do. A starter that was benched for 2 games?

I think this perfectly points up the size of this molehill that some folks with pre-existing agendas want to turn into a mountain. 👍

The only downside to us sitting on Slay's rights and basically forcing him into retirement is the $350k we'd have to pay. But we can then fine Slay for not reporting. That money we'd fine Slay is not recouped by the team and I believe has to go to something charitable or something like that. So put Slay on the DNR list, accept that you have to pay him $350k, fine Slay an equivalent amount, and it's basically a charitable donation.

The league adoptintg a rule like this at roughly the same time they decided to get into bed with various gambling apps is not shady at all, no sir!

So is Landon Jackson done for the year?
DrDawkinstein replied to billsfan714's topic in The Stadium Wall
Eh, immediate contributions taper off as you go up in rounds. 3rd rounders are often 2nd year potentials. We already had Bosa, Rousseau, and Epenesa at DE. This was always going to be rotation at best. The guys who should be immediately contributing are Hairston, and then Sanders. Luckily, Walker has stepped up. Quite. Those 10 starts were shaky at best and people were calling him a bust right away. Bernard looked HORRIBLE that preseason after Edmunds left, his 2nd year, but stepped up once the season began. Point is, there's still hope. (I never liked him as a prospect, but I'm also not writing him off yet because Ive been wrong plenty of times before) -
That is truly an amazing stat. Can we get his completion % under 90% on this first drive?
-
Fair, and I don’t disagree, he’s a good player and we aren’t exactly overpaying. I think that is the prevailing argument around here and it’s incorrect. Even a guy like Bernard I apply the same logic with. That could be a good deal so to speak, but from my view if that deal prevents more aggressive investment at MLB to try and upgrade it’s not a good way to build the roster. You obviously can’t have studs everywhere. I just think we tilt way too hard of late towards B players vs maybe some D/C filler types with some A players. Which really frustrates me because I believe Beane was more on the path if trying to get higher talent in the past. But the conclusion of the Diggs and Miller situations just left him burnt. But to me those were the correct moves even if they didn’t go how we wanted in full. The year Miller got hurt he very well could have been the piece we needed. It’s very hard to separate them, which is why I largely don’t try to do so.

What is the total points missed column here? -
the contract he signed is carried by waivers to the team who signs him

But youve been one of the best teams in the NFL for 5 yrs. It sucks they haven't gotten over the hump, and if not for perhaps the best QB of the era they prob would have. Think about how many good teams Kelly kept out in a 5 yr span. Only one team can go to the SB. Of course the goal is to get there, but let the guy who's been better than so many other teams for so long have a chance and building it back up again. Heck, last yr was supposed to be a rebuild and they managed to make it pain free with a team that was good enough to go to the dance. Now, do I think perhaps we like the idea of drafting and resigning our own too much? Maybe. But these guys have been pretty decent at self scouting. I think now its crystal clear we need resources devoted to WR. He thought he could get by with a bandaid and devote resources elsewhere this year. He even believed it so strongly he stuck his neck out uncharacteristicly. I was worried hed double down, but they've been actively trying to do what they can to get stronger while still giving themselves the ability to be able to have a future. Now. There is just a fundamental difference in wanting to sell the farm for one year to win it all, or try to set yourself up to be competitive and go every year. You either fall on one side of that coin or the other and both have arguments for and against. This GM doesnt seem to think its worth a sell out bc nothing is guaranteed. I think that as well, but acknowledge either side can be right - its just whatever your fundamental beliefs are. Regardless, this is sssooo far away from my original point that people have just gotten so spoiled they just B word to B word. Every player signing there are people who run to make light of age, or former affiliations. Even after the KC game this yr there were complaints and thats the most dominant of a win we've ever had in game. Id venture to guess if McB were cut loose today both would have jobs in quick order. We have it good. We haven't won it all yet, but our chances with these 2 seem better than the unknown. Hell, Id love an awesome offensive minded coach to pair w Allen. But there is more to it than that and more to it than we see or think about. Messages get stale, but I dont think McDs has as of yet. Of course that can change but for now, let's just see where this season takes us.

You know who wants the Bills to retain the rights to Slay and let him rot? All the other potential NFC playoff teams. I bet there isn’t a single one who feels the Bills should do the player friendly thing and release Slay so he can go to the Eagles.

Any chance OPer had of making their case was lost when they included a bunch of 'almost screwed up but didn't' transactions (e.g. Cook) that were really just skilled negotiations. That said, this has been a frustrating year. So many moves that looked good at the time didn't work out, and a lot of it was just plain bad luck.
