I was surprised to see the Chris Burkett td. I started really following the Bills in ‘87. I was just a kid and all I remember was him catching the ball and getting immediately tackled all the time.

I spotted that, too. Bills 31, Panthers 9. Kelly: 4 for 21, 176 yards, 1 TD 3 INT. Rating: 38.3. Plus: Panthers Frank Reich was 6 for 21 and 44 yards and Kerry Collins was 0 for 2. Combined QBs: 10 for 44. Bills trailed 9 - 0 into the 3rd quarter. 53 degrees, winds at 10 mph.

Augie, having toured the entirety of new stadium and then attended the Giants game last week I can tell you, and everyone else, that other than the fact that both stadiums are/will be the home of the Buffalo Bills there is virtually no comparison between the two venues. The new stadium is light years ahead of the existing one with regards to supporting facilities, amenities, etc. Two things struck me the most. First was how enclosed the new stadium feels. The stands and the roof overhang completely surround the field making the ‘feel’ inside the seating bowl very different from the open air feel of ‘Rich’ stadium. Second, the sheer volume of the concourse areas is nothing like the spartan corridor of the current facility. It’s like comparing a modern professional venue to an old school small college facility.

I don’t think the problem is attracting events as much as it is who has an extra BILLION they want to throw in for a dome? People are complaining about the cost as-is, so I’m not sure how something much more expensive would have gone over with the locals paying for much of it. For the record, I wanted a dome downtown, but I’m happy the Bills will remain in WNY. That’s my bottom line.

Right, teams followed this formula for years. We might have seen more starting qb play this year, but i think Indy shut a lot of that down.

I was thinking VDM trade - maybe even to the Bears depending on how they see him in practice -- but the Grable concussion spooks me a bit. I'd rather hold VDM a little too long and deal with too many tackles on the roster until Van Pran is ready than risk running Chase Lundt out there if Grable isn't ready and there's a week 1 injury. At the very least Anderson would have to tape his hands differently if he's the backup center. (Or retape quickly if he had to go in.) Hawes might fit that "heavy" bill pretty well in those sets.

The SVPG situation and #2 center is what I’m most curious about heading into the season. If Anderson has to start the season as #2 center - he probably is not the one coming in as your 6OL in jumbo sets (as we saw previously with Ryan Bates as #2 center) - they like to keep their backup C in bubble wrap it seems. I think Kendrick Green has some snapping experience, so maybe he finds a way to make the initial 53 to help them feel comfortable. Or they “Will Clapp” the veteran center they just signed last week where he goes on the practice squad but is called up and active as #2 C over some of the young depth tackles they keep for the first few weeks of the season.

I think they do. His body type - there's some guys you can just tell are NFL players before they hit it big. Benford, to me, was a guy I saw in the stadium during his first pre-season game and was thinking who is this guy. He just looks like an NFL player. Grable is that guy, too. He stands out. He's going to be a stud, so they may kick him in if need be. (I sat pretty far away for camp, blue and red, and the pre-season game, but from a distance Dorian Strong might fit that bill this year. He just looked like an NFL type at his position.)

I think the shortened pre-season is part of it, but I also think that the pre-season was already headed towards being what it is now. The biggest influence was Sean McVay. When he became Rams coach, he wouldn't play ANY of his starters in pre-season. The general response by the media, and I think from NFL colleagues as well, was, "Oh sure, you'll keep your guys healthy but you're going to be rusty early in the season which is really going to hurt." Then the Rams went out and won their first regular season like 56-0 or something....and a trend was launched.
