What does "Complementary Football" mean in Bills Coachspeak?

This much is clear. That is why the original question is what does this coach mean when he is talking about it. -
Lofton vs Cooks...Fingers Crossed!
transplantbillsfan replied to YodaMan79's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm probably considered one of the biggest optimists on this board and even I think thought this was pretty far-fetched. That said, I also believe this signing could be more impactful than the Amari Cooper signing was last year. And before everyone just dogs on that statement, Cooper's presence on the field really did make a difference last year even if he didn't statistically impact the team much. What I truly hope is that it's Shakir, Gabe and Cooks as our top 3 WRs. Those are the guys I think Josh would naturally trust the most. And then who knows???? If we can get a handful of games of Lofton-like production out of him that would be incredible. -
Cuz all the talent he put around Daniel Jones/Draft with the Giants?

There’s some actual sportsbooks that offer this bet and while they vary wildly mcd is never even offered as an option lol in reality he’d be in the +3000 type territory if they listed him I think. not sure what polymarket is smoking here…I’d imagine they set the bets to like 50/50 initially and there’s not enough people betting on this to actually use this as a predictor of anything
-
Daboll literally couldn't get anything out of hurts at Alabama They should be asking Oklahoma how they got him turned around lol Remember Hurts was replaced by a true freshman tua who came from behind and won the national championship and was vastly Superior as a pure passer Jalen was nothing more than a running quarterback at Alabama who struggled throwing
-
Such an easy money bet to bet against that lol idk who sets these things initially any reputable bookmaker offering odds on next coach fired mcd is not even in the picture…Raheem Morris is the overwhelming favorite then Zac Taylor is second at like +150 …goes all the way down to Kellen Moore at +1400 with no mention of mcd

Daboll to the Eagles

I can't get over the amount of posters in this thread that are questioning this move and are acting as if this was a mistake. Now I'm coming across a post where we are implying he's going to sign with the Patriots and burn us? What is happening? When we signed him, I thought it was a good move. A former 2nd Round Pick that had some decent stats with the Jets and Browns and had some speed. But I remember @HappyDays saying that beyond the stats, the Draft prestige, and the speed that he simply was a bad player. That he wouldn't remotely move the needle for us. But I thought "eh, Mack Hollins wasn't a good WR either when we got him. Maybe his traits plus Josh would revitalize his career". Then he got to Training Camp and the reports were he wasn't showing anything. He wasn't separating from the pack at all and could just be outright cut. But hey - it takes new WR's and QB's to develop chemistry. Maybe he'd show us something when it counted? What he showed was that for all of his speed, he somehow couldn't separate any more than Keon Coleman did. His "gadget" plays were way more often than not blown up. The one TD he got on a run could have been run by anyone. When everyone was healthy (even when Coleman was sat) - he was the first WR to be without a jersey on Sundays. In 9 games with the team, he contributed a grand total of 9 catches for just over 100 yards. He provided nothing. Before the activations of Gabe Davis and the signings of Brandin Cooks and Mecole Hardman - the WR core as a whole was bemoaned by fans. I didn't hear one person say "Elijah Moore is a bright spot though, he deserves more reps". He was clearly the odd man out to be cut. Not only bc we need Samuel's cap relief in the off-season, Keon Coleman could get us some kind of return in a trade after this year (and/or be tried as a Big Slot), and Moore had only 6 games left with us under contract - but because of his overall standing with the team. If Moore was what some on this thread make him out to be, guys like Cooks and Hardman wouldn't have been signed. Davis wouldn't have been highlighted as he was. And Shavers wouldn't have been given the opportunities he was against Tampa Bay. Elijah Moore was a failed flyer. Bc he simply isn't a good NFL WR. I'd move him off the roster to fit on Brandin Cooks or Gabe Davis 6 days a week and twice on Sundays and not lose a blink of sleep over who signed him. He was always far and away the first WR out the door in my eyes.

What does "Complementary Football" mean in Bills Coachspeak?
Lost replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
For how much McDermott preaches complimentary football. We're F'ing terrible at it. -
He was just another guy. Maybe Brady could use the guys we have better but the guys we have are all JAGs with no one to take heat off them. A room full of JAGs are too easy to defend because they usually won’t beat their guy unless they are going up against other JAGs.

As a diabetic Thanksgiving is the worst holiday. Sure Halloween has candy but I can look past it. But carby stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and marshmallow tops, pie etc is just too hard to pass.

All of these various influences (Calvinism, the Iroquois confederation, etc, etc) can be found in the thinking of the founding fathers. Everyone sees a little of what they want to see. Liberal bleeding hearts see respect for native American governance; religious righties see hardcore protestantism. But the one giant who towers above all others combined? Montesquieu. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montesquieu

It means the offense scores and the defense makes stops. If one isn’t doing that then it’s not complementary football. -

But he won because his new team defense killed Mahomes. -
Nothing Which is what should have been expected given his past production Yet Beane paid him as if he'd be a difference maker, and he's not even close to that

Ultimately, it all just comes down to not making mistakes. Penalties, dropped coverages, dropped passes, poor execution, and bad playcalling all contribute to making it harder for everyone else to do their jobs and produce wins. If you eliminate the mental errors, you'll probably have great complementary football. -
on the plus side, Pitts does not have the secondary the Texans have. People overlook how good the Texans secondary is because their pass rush is so dominant but the Texans also have some of the best secondary play in the NFL

Fair point on Slowik. And possibly telling no one else picked him as an OC. It does seem that this year CJ Stroud regressed even more as did their offense. My biggest hope is that in the event Joe Brady isn't here next year is that the Bills look outside and not promote from within. Ronald Curry doesn't really spark hope.

I like McDermott and appreciate that he has been the purveyor of turning this organization around. However I think he's just taken us as far as he could, we're on the downward and we missed our peak with him at the helm. His inability to fully understand offense and make good decisions with personnel and coaches has always been his weakness. I'd call it largely a failure. More recently his brand of defense is exposed. His greatest asset is his ability to bring people together and get them to play and care about each other. We all know he preaches self development. He believes in doing the same things, just do them better. He's a toughness coach, beat the man in front of you. It feels like that message is fractured and I think he'll have to coach his way to gaining the players respect back. I think he'll fail and the team will fray. He's not a strategist. X's and O's aren't his strong suit.

On offense, I agree. On defense, I disagree, as I think there are times when they are overachieving. In the first half of some games, they are getting smoked, and in the second half, putting a choke-hold on teams. A few things are happening with the defense besides the injuries, as they are just not getting the turnovers like they did last season, and they have a mix of older vets and young players learning their way. Think about how good this defense might have been with Max Hairston with a full training camp and preseason. With Ed Oliver fully healthy, with Michael Hoecht who returns from suspension, only to blow out his Achillies* after a great performance. Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin. Benford, Bernard, Bosa, Lawson, and others at different times. Right now, the Bills might be without both starting offensive tackles, with Dalton Kincaid, Curtis Samuel, and Kahlil Shakir all probably out. Some Bills fans simply say, Oh, all teams have injuries...not to this extent and keep winning. It's kind of ridiculous.
