I think Kenneth Davis was a more complete RB than Ray Davis is. Ray is a good change of pace back with more power than Cook. But I find it ridiculous to think he's going to be the kind of starter that Cook is. He's a completely different RB. He's a 4.55 guy who's got average vision and runs kind of tight. Ray Davis was not brought in to be James Cook's heir apparent. He was brought in to replace Nyheim Hines' roster spot and the role that Zack Moss had before him. If/when James Cook leaves Buffalo, his true replacement will come in the 2026 Draft and will be a similar style RB with speed and elusiveness.

It really isn't. The problem has essentially been KC in the playoffs. That's the problem. And when we get there the main reason they haven't done that well is that they haven't been able to pressure Mahomes. Haven't had the guys, with the one exception of the season when we looked like we did till Von Miller's injury. This year they finally spent a bunch of resources on pass rushers. Hopefully they'll finally be able to put some heat on signal callers.

It's cheaper but usually a disaster extending a RB before the last year of his rookie contract (Gurley, Dalvin Cook, David Johnson, Zeek, Chubb). I'm having a hard time where one did work out off the top of my head at least within the last six to eight years. McCaffrey you could argue was the best contract extension on his rookie deal but it was only a good deal for the 49ers (not the Panthers). Edit: I forgot about Derrick Henry. Well worth the money for the Titans.

He used to. Rodgers was abysmal throwing more than 10 air yards last season. His deep ball accuracy has fallen off a cliff. He was still good with the short game so slants are still a weapon but down the field he was about the worst QB in football.

This isn't the most leverage he'll ever have. He'll have more next year when they'll have to tag him or let him go. It might be the time that Cook himself has the most on the line, as an injury really could ruin his career. Which is the reason he should maybe have accepted less but gotten a contract with some injury guarantees. I've got nothing against him doing all this. I question - as many have - whether this is the best move he could make to further his own interests. A lot of the reason those players in that same draft class you mentioned got those early deals is that they gave the team good value to do so. Cook did not. If he'd accepted a deal at around $10 to $11M, Cook would also likely already have a deal. Can't say for sure, but that's the way it seems. Generally if you want a deal early, you have to give something up to get it.

Brown and Keon each breaking a 1000 yards isn't really comparable though IMHO. Keon breaking 1000 yards in his 2nd season will be more significant in a spread the ball around offense that balances with a run game than John Brown doing it late in his career as an anomaly when we ran a pass happy offense with less options to throw to and lacked a balanced run game. There is more than one way to be a difference maker as a boundary WR, and there are guys who are slower than Keon who have been top end boundary WR's, so what he can or can't be on the boundary is still yet to be known IMHO. What they need from Keon is to be the best version of himself, they will fill in guys around him who have different strengths than Keon as they are building this team more around skills sets and roles. And to your point of being fine with this type if season...If Keon can grow into a role where he can consistently be a 900-1100 yard WR in this style of offense, he will be a pretty good player for us over that span. And that is all we need him to be, he doesn't have to blossom into say a top 10 WR in the NFL even, just needs to do what he does at a high level and he is going to help this team win games.

If the Bills do not sign him this year it is a going to cost a heck of a lot more to sign him as the season ends and into the offseason. So if your the Bills you sign him now to an extension, if you do not sign him you are either Franchising him next year or you are losing or letting him walk after this year. If he hits 1500 yards and North of 12 TDS he will get over 20 M easy next yr IMO. It is always cheaper to sign the player early.

Yep. Awesome teammate..until he doesn’t throw to diggs every play, overthrows him, or diggs doesn’t get a lot of catches or yards. Then the real “teammate” will show his true colors.

I wouldn't but I understand why some would. I believe the last first round RB who led their team in rushing yards to win a Super Bowl with their original team was Adaii in the '06 season. I know correlation doesn't equal causation but you just lose the value of having a guy on a rookie contract at a premium position if you draft a RB in the first round.

Cook is very good, but not elite. He barely cracked 1K yards in a loaded Bills offense so I doubt he would produce more than that somewhere else. In my heart I want Cook, but in my mind I know it’s a bad idea. He’s an excellent speed back, but he can’t block and he can’t catch the ball. There’s a big difference between Cook and Barkley and Henry. If there’s a Bijan Robinson or Najee Harris type of back available next year at the bottom of RD1 though I wouldn’t be against it..

Mike Brown is not cheap. He's poor for an NFL owner. His only valuable asset is the small-market team.

Good information. Thanks. The Bengals have more of a cash issue that creates the cap issue. Restructuring contracts to push the cap hit down the road means be more willing to have cash in hand to pay now. Mike Brown is cheap and this idea that Joe Burrow has changed the way the Bengals do business is a myth.
