BillnutinHouston started following A time to reflect

What I find myself reflecting on today is, I'm so grateful I made the decision to abandon my 10+ year season tickets and not fall for the expensive kool-aid the Bills are selling (mafia + hope + PSLs). The thought of buying into a declining roster would make me ill.

Even more so now because of the recent sale of Dominion to a conservative company. I understand they're modifying the voting machines to activate a trap door under the machine to open when a voter pulls the "democrat" ticket row lever. Into the flame pit like Dr. Evil! -
Cook is not the only important player being taken off the field

No, they will NEVER learn as McDermott is his own worst enemy. Coach Andy Reid saw that in Philadelphia and he fired McDermott as D Coordinator years ago. Andy knows people and look what hes done with KC. I wonder how tired our D players get from running sprints on and off the field. Ever wonder why we cant stop the run? Could be because of the ongoing rotations the players never get to read the other players traits or nuances so playing as a team will never happen. McDermott thinks people can be used like a plug and play machine. They cant as were human. He also needs to stop wth the Boy Scouts and Jesus stuff as Jesus wants nothing to do with him. Thats why hes never been to a Super Bowl. -

Based on the team and corresponding player, Olave would be just what the doctor ordered for Josh. And yes it will cost us a 1st and 4th. -
It’s all in the eye-test, sure 4-2 doesn’t look bad at a quick glance, that is until you find the competition for those 4 w’s are a combined 3 and 17. This team doesn’t look good. Period! Wideouts who can’t get open, small LB’s who are often injured & who lack physicality, a bad secondary, no depth where it matters, a defensive that can’t get off the field on 3rd or 4th and the usual annual injuries galore. We always seem to have the same needs left uncorrected season to season. Sure we have a few bright spots Allen Cook Kincaid Shakir Walker, & O Line is ok but that isn’t enough. Overall this is not a good football team. It’s a re-run every season with the same outcome and with BB and McD not really addressing the right issues. Tell me you don’t know the ending already?

My god Elijah Moore is terrible. His CB is playing with vertical leverage and he has all sorts of space to come back to. This is why he hasn't stuck anywhere after being drafted at the top of the 2nd. He can run routes pretty well but he is hopeless at reading defenses and making himself available for his QB. -

some of the packages on season defining types of plays are super strange Not a specific example here but feel like we’ve seen big big moments with ray davis, Gilliam, Knox, shavers out there like at some point do you need your 5 best on the field for 4th down, 2 pointers, etc….. so it is your stance that his exact play count is perfect and can’t be questioned at all? -
I'm not worried about being right. But I do think he should have been fired ever since 13 second. Anything that catalyzes and starts the search for a new coach I am for it. I'm not against "waiting until the end of the year" per se, but it won't happen at the end of the year. Everyone will be like "we just won ____ games and lost a close one to KC in the playoffs, we were so close to the sb". And rinse. And repeat McDermott is excellent at deferring blame, and it will just be new coordinators. This team desperately needs a fresh start.

A lot of people seem to think our problem is mental. The one year we were too overconfident and bought into the hype. The next year we were sad about Damar Hamlin. We need to be an underdog to have that fire. I just can't buy any of this. I've come to the conclusion our #1 problem is talent. Second is coaching. Key players have gotten old/retired (White, Poyer, Hyde, Milano). League-wide tendencies have gradually made our defensive scheme outdated. Our outside/downfield WRs are terrible and can't get open. Josh Allen is finally tired of destroying his body playing Superman for 5 months every season. In terms of health, no team is ever going to be 100% healthy. Especially a team that purposely drafts undersized players. Terrel Bernard gets hurt all the time, because he's too small to be a MLB. Taron Johnson is always hurt, because we try to use him like a third linebacker. We also want CBs who rally and tackle over guys who cover tight and defend passes. -

I don’t agree with that. Walker is 6’7” and about 330. Dexter Lawrence is 6’4 and around 340. Lawrence is receiving about 40% more of his team’s defensive snaps than Walker is. That is a substantial amount more. IMO, it’s more because Walker is a rookie and the Bills philosophy has been to always rotate their d-linemen. -

Dexter Lawrence and Chris Jones both are tracking 70% of defensive snaps. They are arguably the two best Interior DL's in the game. -
So this will sound sacrilegious, but I've wondered if Josh Allen is paradoxically both why we are competitive and why we can't win the "big one". I don't mean his contact size, nor do I mean anything negative about his performance (but of course he isn't perfect), but rather how much his "rope" his success has given to the tandem of our GM and HC. Are both actually not great at their jobs, but have job security because they won the lotto with Josh? And, if so, will that ultimately be our downfall?

They just backed themselves into a corner entering the 2024 draft. That would have been okay if they took McConkey (for example). He was very safe. He may not have become a star but he was going to be 800+ yards and a bunch of targets day 1. He had a skillset and production that was destined to translate. You couldn’t take the risk on Keon because you didn’t have anyone else. Trading up would have been the best answer IMO. I would have tried to get one of the big 3 regardless of the cost. Those guys all had high ceilings and high floors. Generally, I am not a fan of factoring in the floor with your early picks but the Bills had no choice because of their crappy WR room. They just couldn’t afford the downside of Keon (or a bunch of other guys). They had to sacrifice some potential upside for the lack of downside. They didn’t and it, predictably, failed. The Bills lack elite players at the most important positions (non QB). They don’t have an elite pass rusher or an elite WR. You have to draft or trade for those guys in 2025. They no longer hit FA. That’s all the more reason to be aggressive at the deadline.

This freakin place is so awful after a loss. Obviously 2 in a row makes it way worse. We're making the playoffs. I totally disagree with the notion we need the #1 seed. Your stat about McDermott's playoff road record leaves out the fact that other than 2019 (when we weren't this iteration of the Bills and Josh Allen wasn't yet Elite), every road playoff loss came against the Chiefs. That proves somehow we're doomed on the road against other teams in the playoffs??? Totally disagree. I also think this crowning of NE is really premature. Guys, before the season started looking at our schedule to start the season I think we all would have been happy with 5-1 at the bye. We're one game off that pace.

The reality is that the McD scheme needs some tweaking. I would prefer we go with three thumper LBs, and some space eaters on the line. Instead, we have the smaller penetrating DLs and the quicker LBs. Even if that scheme worked, these guys like Bernard And Milano are too small and injury prone to play LB.

Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
GroteStreet replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
This team has too many holes to fill; one trade for a wide receiver will not fix them all and the coaches probably will not know how to use whatever receiver we get anyway (see cooper, amari). Save the draft capital, fire the GM, and get someone competent to make the pick next april. -

Olave! For a 1st and 3rd! Hell throw in a 2nd next year! Make a move that really matters, not these bargain bin 3rd round shots in the dark we’ve been doing!! Are draft picks suck anyway!! might as well give them to someone who knows how to draft. ok I’m done with my stupid rant 😅 go bills! -

I would do it too because the risk of doing something to fix the problem is a lot lower than doing nothing other than hoping and praying for the best with what they have on the roster.
