I lived in LA when both the raiders and rams were there. People could have cared less. The NFL missed their chance in LA because they never forged a following there in the "old" days. Now people see it as one very expensive entertainment option among many. Passion for college ball on Saturday runs deep and people d not want to turn around and attend or deal with a pro game on Sunday also. The NFL will put a team in LA but my guess is they get a bandwagon following - in good years they will do ok - in bad they will not.

Been here in Jax since 1995, coincidentally the Jags first year. Of course the town was/is full of Dolfish fans, and even more Gator & Seminole fans. You may recall that the Jags had some phenomenal early success under Coughlin, but blew a 14-2 season with a loss to the Titans in the AFC Champ game (in Jax too). A large segment of the crowd has always been known as the "wine & cheese" crowd who really don't give a rat's a$$ about the game, then there's the "blue-collar" grunts......nbot sure who's causing the low turn-outs, prolly a combo of both.

 

Personally, of course I remained true to the Bills, and in the 90s and the early 2000s I was the biggest fan out there (had NFL ticket at home for many years). Then in about 2004 I had an epiphany and realized how much of my life I was wasting sitting in front of a TV watching football....and not just Bills games, but LOTS of other games too. Surely the Bills' dismal play had me frustrated and disappointed so often, that it made my decision easier to go "cold turkey" and spend my Sundays out actually doing things and enjoying my life.

 

OK, so what does all of the above have to do with anything? lol I think that a lot of people are coming to the same conclusion I did back in 2004. And with the woeful economy and ever-rising costs to go to a game, it makes it much easier. Certainly here in FL (even in the winter) there are PLENTY of "fun" things to do on Sunday instead of spending 3-9 hours watching football!

 

Oh btw, I'm glad I grew up in WNY and am proud of that, but IMHO, the quality of life available here in FL is far beyond what can be had up there.

Distillation: Yeah, we'll watch some NFL games on TV if it's raining outside, but we'd rather ride our bikes or go to the beach, and don't really give a crap whether or not we have our own team.

 

(Nothing wrong with that, mind you - I think that's pretty much how they feel in LA too. Some towns are just not NFL-worthy.)

I know this is repetitive...but there is a little thing out there called a TIVO. I have two small childrewn, 10 and 8. Also live in an area where summer sucks, and cannot wait for the temps to start colling down. No way am I sitting inside to watch a Bills game on Sunday..but now I get the best of both worlds. Outside farting around with the chuckleheads all day..then the Bills on around 5.30..game over about 7.15 just in time for Sunday dinner. And no, it is no problem what so ever not hearing the score, just do not turm on sports radio during the day.

 

I will almost guarantee that sometime on Sunday you watch an hour of TV..just make that Bills TV Best reality show out there

Yes you are, and really, I have no problem with that, as all of the reasons that you stated for your disinterest

are very much spot on. I am the exact age as you, but we moved out of Buffalo when I was nine. I too, at times

feel this way, about all of the commercialism, and the repeated dissappointments. But I will tell you this, we ended

in Pgh. when I was fourteen, and I have never had the inclination to become a Steeler fan, even a mildly interested

one, and it won't matter if I eventually end up in Upper Siberia, I will always be a Bills fan. The part about

enjoying my Sundays does sound appealing though, but even with the dissapointments, stress, etc. no team that I can

think of has been more exciting than the Buffalo Bills.

Right now, at work, on a ship off the coast of Nags Head, NC, all caught up with my duties, so yeah, I can waste time here because I'm stuck here! lol But if you look at my msg post total, you might agree that I don't waste a lot of time here.

 

I am, and will always be a Bills fan (still got the THREE pair of Zubaz pants in the closet, although my wife won't let me wear them out in public...lol). Of course I root for the Bills over the Jags. And that 14-2 year was pretty cool to see, and so was having the SB here in '05.

If the Jags want fans they should do one thing next year, draft Tim Tebow. My parents live in St. Augustine right outside Jax and everyone loves the Gators and LOVES the local Boy Mr. Tebow. I don't care what their pick is, draft the guy and the franchise will survive. I'm telling you, that would get butt's in the seats.

Another post about how someones life is so much better because they moved out of WNY. Last sunday was a great day, got up to the stadium around 11, tailgated, saw friends I have not seen in 6 months, drank, grilled on a beautifull day to watch a football game. I love how people think that people from buffalo are trapped in their house 10 months a year because of the weather. The weather has been absolutely beautifull here the last few months. It is raining today, which is the first day it has rained in 22 days. I love how you seem to think that going to a football game, tailgating, at the stadium is a waste of time but going to the beach is not. There both fun & to each there own. Been to Jacksonville 4 times, I like the city & always tell my wife if I had to move somewhere in florida that would probably be the place(they at least get a little bit break from the constant heat). There is not anymore things to do there then there is in Buffalo though, I am pretty confident of that. The nightlife is nowhere near as good. Went there in late October one time & as I recall the ocean there was pretty fuggin cold. We had a place right on the beach & I did not see any people out there swimming except for us one night when we came home really loaded from a place I believe it was called Sneakers. Anyways, always enjoy playing golf down there & I am jealous you could play all year round, but the courses at least the ones I played(outside of Sawgrass) are not nicer then the courses up here.

I hear ya but we are talking about probably the best college football player ever. This kid is a winner and has the "it" quality that Archie Manning never had. For a few years now I have been DVR'ing the Sunday Ticket Bills game and watching the game at night when I'm ready to watch the game.

This year I cancelled Sunday Ticket and bought the NFL Gamerewind, it's even better, I dont have to record the game. and it's a lot cheaper.

 

I'm going to be riding my new Suzuki Boulevard C50T or golfing or hnaging with the family on Sundays.

Archie was from NO, starred at Ole Miss... he was Da Schitt for folks down there. He was also one of the best college QBs of his era. I agree, though, he did not have the same success as Tebow.

That's what I think is funny about this thread. People act as if football isn't fun. Maybe it's not fun to you, but that doesn't mean other don't enjoy it. If watching/going to football games is a chore, then you're not a fan(atic). And at that point, who cares?

Now hold on...I live in Richmond and for me, watching the game on TIVO vs watching the game live is just a better experience. I watch the game in 1/2 the time by simply FF through commercials and halftime. I have been doing that for ten years, and I HATE watching a game real time with all the commercials. Plus I get the benefit of enjoying the day and doing stuff besides watching the game...so to me I get the best of both worlds. Watch the Bills without commercials and still do other stuff in the best weather we have for the year.

 

Now, I would absolutely take being at the stadium over watching on Tivo..and still usually make two a year.But lord those TV timeouts still kill me!! Love going to the game, but can see how if you have small kids going to more than a couple games a year not an option, unless you have a very forgiving wife or inlaws who like to babysit

Archie was a great QB that played for a horrible team ... he played before FA so he had no opportunity to escape the wasteland that the Saints were back in his day. Tebow will not make a good NFL QB - he is not accurate enough to play at the pro level.

Lived in PVB for nine years, and am now in Atlantic Beach. Sure there are a few spots around Jax, just like in any other city, that are rough, but labeling the whole area a hellhole is just plain asinine and fallacious.

I love Jacksonville. As long as they're around, the NFL will have a hard time justifying a Bills move out of Buffalo.

I am now starting to think the jags will move.. but Tebow will reverse that.. Its funny went to the game this week and saw three jags jerseys with TEBOW on the back... Its kinda hard to sell out a 76,000 seat stadium with a small population..But jacksonville has everything you need for a NFL team, The beach and the best Golf courses in the world

Now hold on...I live in Richmond and for me, watching the game on TIVO vs watching the game live is just a better experience. I watch the game in 1/2 the time by simply FF through commercials and halftime. I have been doing that for ten years, and I HATE watching a game real time with all the commercials. Plus I get the benefit of enjoying the day and doing stuff besides watching the game...so to me I get the best of both worlds. Watch the Bills without commercials and still do other stuff in the best weather we have for the year.

 

Now, I would absolutely take being at the stadium over watching on Tivo..and still usually make two a year.But lord those TV timeouts still kill me!! Love going to the game, but can see how if you have small kids going to more than a couple games a year not an option, unless you have a very forgiving wife or inlaws who like to babysit

If I watch the game at home, I start at 1:15. That way I can FF through the timeouts.
