rockpile
That jingle song, for us as kids, was like the call of the Pied Piper to a city of rats. news link mister softee DOT com Web site has a clip of the jingle. The last one of these I saw was in Greenwich Village at a festival a couple years ago.
stuckincincy
RIP, Mr. S. Having a handful of pennies in the summer when a delivery truck converted to an ice cream palace drove into the neighborhood was a huge, rare treat.
stinky finger
I enjoyed many a nutty-buddy from that man. Sad to see him pass. RIP. Ice cream sammys were always a treat as well.....
Ned Flanders
Growing up in Rochester, we always had "Skippy." He often (like mall Santas there was more than one) rode around on a three-wheeled type motorcycle, with the freezer in the back. Down by the beach in Charlotte, we also had "Skeeter." There was only one of him, and he had a van...

BuffaloBud
Mr. Softee was a presence during my youth in Lancaster. However, he always appeared just before dinner and my mom would rarely give me money for a cone where everyone else was lined up.

Bill from NYC
Never heard of Mister Softee. Must be an east coast thing. 702430 It was good stuff Lana. As a kid, I remember hearing this distinct song that played from their trucks, and asking my parents to buy ice cream. It was soft, very similar to Carvel, or is that too an "East Coast thing?" Ned Flanders
Rochester's best 702671 Jeeziz, the picture of the kids lined up at Abbotts, carefully watched by a nun, brings back memories...we used to walk down there from Holy Cross, at least three nuns in tow, when I was in school there. Scarier yet, I may be in the picture!
