Latest Tryout Candidates for the Bills

CBs MJ Devonshire and DJ James try out for the Bills

 

Both were drafted in 2024.  James was drafted by Seattle, but is currently on New England's PS.  He has decent size and speed.  He played three seasons for Oregon in college.  Devonshire was a teammate of Hairston at Kentucky.  He's a little shorter at 5'10" (compared to 6 foot) and not quite as fast.  Since James is already on New England's PS, the only way he can come to Buffalo is via the 53 man roster.

Are you sure James is currently on New England's practice squad?  He isnt listed on their website and it'd also be highly odd for him to be a tryout player while on a practice squad.

Just going by the article itself.  I didn't check it for accuracy.  Wikipedia says he spent 2024 on the Patriots PS.  He made NE's initial 53 man roster, but was cut on September 9.

He would not be able to try out here if another PS .. Bills could only sign to 53 man

DJ James is interesting to me. I think he went in round 6 of the draft and I liked him a bit better than that as an inside/outside flex corner with speed. Not really sure what his story has been since, but clearly his career hasn't gone to plan. There is some talent there though, especially as a sticky man coverage slot type.

From my experience, Heavy is so inaccurate, it's laughable. They post made up stuff all the time just for clicks.

MJ Devonshire was originally at Pitt and its obvious the Bills have a really good relationship with the Pitt secondary coach

Two questiosn for my fellow Bills fans - have you ever come across a list of "street" FAs where players like MJ Devonshire appear?

 

I've always wondered how the NFL tryout world operates.  How do players get a tryout?

Update:  Buffalo has signed Devonshire to their PS.  He replaces an offensive lineman (Broecker) who was released.
