This is true but other than Maye, our losses are against your bottom tier. That’s one of the very frustrating things.

Those are not bad stats either.  On Defense:  I think the points against is in part on the offense due to turnovers.  Clean those up and the points against will improve.  Whether the D to date is judged based on being eighth in yards or twelfth in points - both stats are describing a similar defense.  If the defense can be a top 10 unit in both yards and points -- a true top 10 that passes the eye test -- we may be on to something.  The comments about "which team shows up" being important I think are spot on - we need to be consistent on defense and fix the offensive mistakes and develop a passing philosophy that works given our limitations at WR (more to the backs, more to TEs - especially once Kincaid is back).  Loved seeing Cook and Ty Johnson in the backfield at the same time.  Defense seems to be coming together a bit.

They had the worst special teams in nfl history im pretty sure haha there were so many close games where they gave up a punt return td or had a fg blocked etc

The fact is, only about 1/3 of the QBs in the league are top tier. Most teams face groups like that, a third top tier and two-thirds who aren't. There are exceptions, especially in divisions with a great QB group, but this is how it looks, on average.

There is no one stat, beyond wins and losses, of course, that tells the story perfectly. But when it comes to isolating the performance of an offensive or defensive unit, season yards may be the best one.

 

Of course, you have to look at all the stats, at the whole story. But total yards is absolutely a key stat.

 

It depends how your tiers are set up.  I have 3.  Studs- solid starters- guys you don’t want starting.  Tua land lands around 18-22 for me.  The other guys are defiantly in the 20+.  That’s bottom tier for me.

 

Andy Dalton isn’t bottom tier at the moment?  LOL.

If a clairvoyant told you, I see the Bills going into the playoffs with the 8th ranked D and 2nd ranked O at the start of the season, we'd all be signing up.

 

Yet, I'm not feeling very confident. As mentioned stats dont tell the story.

Oh yeah for sure.  Losing to Penix, Mills, Tua is an abomination.  In our 4 losses, we had 3 turnovers in 3 of them.  2 turnovers in the other.  We beat ourselves equally to our opponents beating us

Our best win remains week 1 fluke to come back and beat the Ravens when they gave us the ball back at the end. They were good then, but their defense still sucked. I guess the Bucs win was ok but man did the defense suck. That’s about it. Those are our noteworthy accomplishments, a fluke comeback in week 1 and a shootout at home against a very injured Bucs team. In between, we had some games we won and lost, quite a few very bad losses.

 

Don’t tell me about yards. Tell me we’ve had our asses kicked several times and had very few (perhaps none) truly impressive wins.

 

Go Bills! Let’s get hot and win the SB the year we suck somehow!

 

 

 

 

 

I think our best win was vs the Chiefs. Maybe it isn’t the Chiefs of the past, but they still play every one tough and it is one of the few games where McDermott/Brady actually outcoached the opposition.

Agree with your point, this Cincy game with Burrow will tell us where our defense really is.

The Texans defense is legit. Although I do think the Bills will beat them if the Bills have most of their guys back and we play them again.

In my opinion, we think the defense is worse that it actually is because of the consistent huge run plays we give up and our 3rd down defense.

Our two best interior pass rushers, Oliver and Hoecht gone for the year.  Consistent injuries at DE forcing TJ Sanders out of the middle where he's the best.

I wouldn't say our defense is good but it's not bad.  

 

Our offense has been very inconsistent.

I think the d is middle of the pack.  If we had Ed and Hoecht, I think we’d be top 8ish.

 

we’re currently 2nd to last in epa vs the run and 4th best against the pass.  Given up the most rushing TD while tied for 2nd least. Passing TDs.  Our sack % is actually 12th and ahead of the Rams, which shocked me.  I love watching their defense.
