He has jumped the shark a bit. He is wise but some of the stuff he gets into is really nitpicky.

This team has played sloppy, undisciplined football all season.  HC and his can do only so much before the players take ownership of their play.  That is a good portion of the problems with the team.

i think one of the main things is...when u have 4th and one, dont call a play call that starts you out 5 yards back...

competent play calling matters.

I was going to write this, but you beat me to it.  That was the right call.  Not kicking the FG on 4th and 1 was a mistake.  One of you just wrote each game is it’s own situation.  The analytics are just a tool.  Knowing and deciding which decision will be the best at that point if the game is the issue.  McD is usually a better game manager knowing when to go for it, and when to make the kick or the punt, but this night there were mistakes.

 

Now, it was obvious Brady is too indecisive and getting plays into JA, far too late.  He’s making the game predictable when our team is down to the last second every play.  There is a reason why TB could opposing defenses called off sides often.

both decisions can be bad ones (they are easily identified as so) independent of eachother.

 

he's always been a bit of a bonehead on gameday.

Nine turnovers in three games-- -2 on the season compared to +24 last year.  Explains much.  Details:

 

1. Poor game plan/poor calls-- Brady called too many plays that took too long to develop and did not adjust when pass rush was hot.  Poor individual play calls, particularly the 4th and 1 call that failed.  Not a shining hour.

 

2.  Josh-- reverted to making poor decisions and trying to do too much.  Some of the lowlights include the hit from behind that caused Josh to hurt his shoulder. He had an open field to run to get a first, and two receivers open for a quick throw for a first.  Instead, he slows and tries to reset his feet for a long throw, and the lack of awareness almost got him killed.  First pic was a terrible decision to force pass into coverage, when he had easy throws to both Davis and Cook.  Although not all the sacks were his fault, he held the ball instead of throwing it away on several or made silly decisions as in running backward on the -18 sack. Another Miami-like game.

 

3. McDermott-- Has become almost too aggressive chasing points.  If he kicked the FG on the failed 4th and 1 run with Cook, score would have been 23-22 late and an FG would have won it.  In a tight game, points matter.

 

4. Conclusion-- "[Bills] need to be honest with themselves and come to terms with their own failures.  Too many penalties, way too many turnovers and, from Allen's point of view, too many negative plays."  Bills can clean this up, but they need to have a sense of urgency about it.  It's up to them.

Agree.  A related point in the article is how the O-line was just not physical enough.  I take all that to be a lack of focus.  It seems to be a collective lack of focus, starting with Allen.

We were at our own 33/34 so normally speaking on a 4th and 1 that early (only 3 mins in the game) we punt. However we had just intercepted Tua and we really needed to establish something early and punish the Dolphins. Any time you get a turnover you have to convert that into some points and grab the momentum. And with this current erratic Bills squad that is key. Once the Bills punted it probably felt to the Dolphins that we let them off the hook and they just reset.

Dunno, I think Marino maybe had better coaching, some guy named Shula for most of his career then Jimmy Johnson.  If you want to visit these guys, take a short drive to Canton, Ohio.

And yet, as has happened many times in the Allen-McD era, we have the ball on offense with the game on the line and failed to close it out. I’m not sure why, but my general hypothesis is that this team isn’t coached to play ‘in the moment’. So often it feels like a fire drill instead of a calm, cool, collected drive where you just know the Bills are going to pull out the win.

Seems like there are multiple minor ***** ups that always cause them to fall short.

Don’t know if this was posted elsewhere but here is DeMeco Ryan’s take on the game plan and what he saw from the Bills. He mentions the Bills put a lot on Josh and they basically played into what the Houston wanted. This is an indictment on Brady the most but McD is at fault as well.

Not against the Dolphins.  We were down 23-6 late in 4th.  Never got it within one score.  But I agree with the point there has been a loss of confidence late in the game.

My point wasn’t that the Bills always have a chance at the end. My point is that when they do, it seems more likely that they’ll fail instead of pulling it out. And as much as I hate to admit it, the same cannot be said of the Chiefs under Mahomes and Reid.

This year, I think that is largely the PTSD of being a Bills fan for 60 years.  I can relate-- I feel the same way.
