Gabe Davis was very sure handed today (knock on wood). The slant catch he made was a great throw and catch and the ball he snagged on the crosser was a tough hands catch.

I believe coleman had been that bad that he ruined the right side for the offense.

On the right side Shavers caught a long ball, blocked for a TD by the RB.  Gave the offense a reason to defend that side of the field.

It was pretty obvious that Bowles set out to stop the quick pass to Shakir and stop Cook from rushing. And it worked up until the end when Cook started finding some room. But that was because the passing game opened it up for him as the game progressed.

I think faking the handoff to the RB & then throwing a quick pass to them on a quick flare pattern is the answer to that defensive strategy. It really worked today, getting the ball to Cook in open space.

Watched the 4th quarter of the Broncos / Chefs game.  This is exactly what Payton called to counter Spagnola's aggressive calls and it was very effective.

One of the weirdest Bills games of the Allen era. I actually expected us to do better with Coleman out and we did! Shavers was excellent. Davis really contributed but the Shakir stat was really unexpected.

Shakir has been in a slump.  I don't know if Brady wants to throw the ball to Shakir only at the LoS.

It'll be interesting to see how we use the WRs going forward.  Coleman didn't seem to add anything; we might be better with Gabe starting and Shavers backing him up.  And deploying Hardman as an occasional speed guy could add a new wrinkle.

Our normal starters (Coleman, Palmer, Shakir) only accounted for 14 yards in a game we scored 44 points.  2nd teamers (Gabe, Shavers) totaled 130 yards.  I wonder how Brady and McD will process all this.

Hondo, I agree the said receivers did well, but Shakir was playing wounded, and this was Palmer’s first game back.  I like the idea of Palmer, Davis, and Shakir, with an alternating Shavers, and for god’s sake, keep Coleman off the field.  Knox btw was open many times and Josh just didn’t tag him more than once.

Lastly, I also like that Davis and TJ were more involved.  Keeps you’re opponent in check if they don’t know who is making the donuts.

Shakir isn’t anything close to healthy

True but he's still being misused.

The best case scenario is that Shavers can reach the level of play that we got from Hollins last year.

Shavers should surpass what Hollins did last year.  Feel he is a more natural WR than Mack.

And if he gets more opportunities like yesterday, Josh should get more comfortable with him.

The defensive system is fine and the "Golden Coral" passing game philosophy is really starting to pay off.

MGK, you're right.  When I said all our normal starters were healthy, I should have said they were healthy enough to suit up.  I just thought the box score was really unexpected.  Shavers leading the pack!  Latu with more yards than Shakir!  Cook finally getting used in the passing game!

I also didn't expect the Bills to sign Hardman and was glad to see him run a go route even if it didn't quite connect - just to get it on tape.  Cook will find bigger holes if opponents respect our intermediate and deep games.  And receivers will get open more often when teams respect our run game and we force them to defend the entire field - horizontally and vertically - instead of just the short stuff.

I think the Bucs game will give opposing defenses more to think about because it wasn't a typical run-Cook, throw-short-to-Shakir-and-Kincaid game plan.

I am glad Brady didn't get cute and out think himself. The Bucs secondary is weak and he called a bunch of passes deep and intermediate. None of the ball control, possession strategy which doesn't account for the opponent's weaknesses.

We can be assured this is not the offense we will see in every game. It was heartening to see that when we needed to pass, we did so successfully.

3 Up

Special Teams were lit...  Best game in forever..  Probably since the first game back after the resurrection.

Allen was feeling it. 6 TDs and leads the NFL in total TDs with 28

Gabe Davis actually might unlock some options for Palmer and Samuels and dare I say the healthy scratch WR

3 Down

Rush defense was so bad that a 3rd string, who?  ran wild on them

Allen back to turning the ballover

Shakir's game has disappeared.

No worries Bud.  From my days coaching boys playing football, it was easy.  Scare the crap out of the defense by passing deep.  Mix intermediate passes in, and then the defense softens up so you run.  It works every time.  You keep alternating your targets in depth.  I used to drive opposing coaches nuts, because whenever they thought we were going short, we went deep.  When they covered deep, we’d go intermediate, then they were completely softened, and the rug was a piece of cake.
