It's funny because I was pretty young during the Super Bowl runs and my memories/perception was always the Bills getting smoked by the Cowboys in both of those games but when you look back at the 2nd Cowboys game the upset was there for the taking.  I watched the Cowboys documentary on Netflix and didn't really remember or maybe was never aware that there was already alot of turmoil and dysfunction within that Cowboys team at that time and the Bills should have been there for the taking in that one.

Besides the obvious...if KC makes a 4th in a row, it means the Bills didn't make it this year......but aside from that.....having that record be shared with another team make you mad?  Relieved?  Indifferent?  

It's never been a point of pride for me. Losing is not an option!

I personally don't care about that record.   I think the run of 7 straight championship game appearances by KC is what is truly impressive.   They've earned it.   

 

The issue I have with KC is just that McDermott traded Mahomes to them.   I recognized the Chiefs as a rival of the Bills at the time.   The Bills/Chiefs matchups since Reid had arrived had become key, season altering losses for the Bills significantly dashing the Bills wild card hopes.   Talent wise there wasn't much discrepency thru those Marrone/Rex years.  But then a new guy(McD) comes in and trying to be clever he hand delivers a franchise QB to his old pal coach who had spent most of the prior 20 years learning every way to lose in the playoffs.  Reid was one more Alex Smith playoff exit from "it's time for a change" in KC.   McDermott changed all that.  Reid really should thank him during his HoF speech.

it's like bringing home the hottest woman you could possibly imagine, only to find out she's got junk bigger than yours taped half way up her backside.  There's no relief in anything either of us described.  Just a ton of excitement followed by tragedy and horror.

I joined this board a long time ago with the 100 pct intent to troll.  And I did for while.  And I had a lot of fun having some good back and forth here as Mahomes took off, and Allen was drafted and was slowly developed.  I had some epic exchanges with a poster here who I think is Transplant Bills Fan...but in my mind I just recall him as Transplant Pants because his avatar is/was a picture of Bills Zubaz pants.  I enjoyed watching Allen and it was cool to see him become what he is.  I admitted...many times here how wrong I was about him.  I've been a big fan watching him play over the years.  Kind of weird but the Bills are my second favorite team at this point.  You can believe what you want.....about this post or other posts I've made here over the years....but this one isn't intended to rile anyone or piss anyone off even though I know some will take that way...that's fine.  A chiefs fan asking a question like this about what some consider some painful memories...I get it.  But...I wanted to ask because I thought about it and it occured to me I wouldn't know myself, how I'd feel about it if my team had that record.  A lot of mixed and interesting posts about it so far.

 

Every time the Chiefs have lost, I come in here right away to congratulate you guys and take some bitter medicine.  And like it has been for a long time now, If KC can't be the team to win the SB...I am rooting for the Bills to do it.

It's an ambivalent thing.  It was great to be good enough to make four consecutive Super Bowls, but it sucked to lose them all.  There's a mixture of pride and pain.  

 

If the Chiefs equal the record, I won't care except that it means the Bills didn't make it this year.  But I don't really expect the Bills to make the SB this year.  What the Chiefs do or don't do - outside of Bills-Chiefs matchups - doesn't really matter to me.

A good many of us are saying this.  Tune out the name callers and focus on the earnest discussion. 

 

We lost our last Superbowl after the players gave up when Dallas tied it up on the turnover.  You could see it in their faces.  Why?  Because nothing much had changed from the years before.

 

I don't want to see that mistake repeated.  But there's still hope this season, so let's see.

See that's just the wrong mindset.. if you do that nobody sees in a successful in the NFL except the super bowl champion but that's not true

They won four straight AFC championships.. four straight AFC championships is not losing anything

Those teams were amazing during AFC Championship games but that was 30 years ago, so I really don't GAF what the Chiefs may or may not do, we did it first. When you make it to 5 straight I'll golf clap applaud your team.

That doesn't mean everything is a failure and you're a loser if you don't win the championship .. Jim Kelly and biscuit Thurman and Bruce certainly not losers

The bills were champions of the American football conference four straight times .. they were not Losers of the AFC they were champions of the AFC

The only time anyone remembers the runner-up in a SuperBowl is when you miss " Wide right" or lose 4 straight. 

 

We're on the same course with the present regime. 

 

We have a young, MVP, generational QB that may never sniff a SuperBowl.

 

Poor game management with our OC. Substandard D schemes based on mediocre talent in key positions and a GM that apparently feels Josh is just fine with average WR's.

 

This is a multi-billion dollar business where winning is all that counts, in the end, for the fan base.

At the SuperBowl trophy ceremony, i suppose there could be another stage for the runner-up and present them with a participation trophy 🤔

Oh yeah, let’s hang the “Almost Champions” banners and throw a parade for second place. Maybe hand out participation rings while we’re at it.

 

Winning the AFC is nice and all, but history doesn’t carve your name in stone for almost. The goal isn’t to get there — it’s to win there. Four trips, zero finishes. That’s not a legacy, that’s a lesson.
